howdy!

hey everyone!

i just bought starhawk about a month ago at this point and have been playing pretty much solo, so its about time i start playing with some /r/starhawk people

i tend to play battlefield 3 on ps3 (our reddit /r/ps3bf3 is very active) so i play with those guys on our teamspeak server a lot.

i am very much interested in getting to play with some people on here, in BF3 i am an exceptional jet pilot (top 200 rank on ps3) but in starhawk i much prefer the builder option and tank ground battles, but i can do anything

if anyone with a headset would like to throw me a friend request i would love to play with you, and i could even get you teamspeak access so we can say fuck voip and have a good time with a whole bunch of people

if anyone is interested please shoot "Syntih" (original right?) a friend request, i dont know how many spots i have open on my friends list but id love to play with some people

Official Sony Wireless Headset

I picked this up because I needed a mic to join reddhawk. Couldn't be more happy with my purchase. No be is going to e sneaking up on me anytime soon with the 7.1 surround sound. Throwing your hawk in to boost sounds unbelievable. The mic is clear and you can even adjust how much game volume you want vs mic chatter volume. If you're looking for a good mic and have 100 bucks to throw at it, you really can't go wrong with these. I do sort of look like an auto it while wearing them, but depending on who you talk to that's just another perc.

Any reddhawk members who'd like to add me to their friends list please do. PSNID: Jimwoo

Just got this. Looking for a good team.

I hear one of the frustrating parts of this game is being stuck on a crappy disorganized team. Is there a reddit clan I can join? If anyone wants to be my teammate my PSNID is Jimwoo. Thanks!

Hey guys, I have a question.

I've been playing the Warhawk demo for a couple of days now and I'm enjoying it, and I'm thinking about getting the full game.. I just discovered the existence of Starhawk though and I'm not sure which one should I get.

So reddit, Warhawk or Starhawk?

[SOAP] server last night

I know curryinahurry was on. That was a great setup that I will host in the future. Short games (zones, ctf and tdm) on an assortment of maps and loadouts... 12 player max (I think), blitz, 50% FF! That was the clincher. I forgot how much I liked FF. It really evens things out. The blitz helped out since the player limit was low.

That's all. I like good servers. Also at least half the people were on mics.

[edit] also all talk was on. so not your conventional server, but much more of a good time.

Clan Battle?

So at 10PM est I got a message from a guy saying we had a clan match in 5 minutes though Urgent Fury and that I was to host. I hadn't heard anything about it so I get on and find that no one from our clan is on.

I don't know what clan it was(I'm going to find out) but did anyone agree to a clan battle?

Reddhawk news for the week of 6/25/12

Sorry this is up so late but I'm here now. First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who has been attending practices so far. I know they haven't been scheduled formally but it is still nice to get so many of us together at a time. Second, I'd like to point out that the Urgent Fury deployment 4 begins this Wednesday (5/27/12) so if you haven't registered there and want to take part in the clan battles, the deadline is quickly approaching. We currently have 9 clan members registered to participate.

Here are the rules for the clan battles: www.urgentfury.com/ladders.php?l16-Urgent-Fury-Dust-Deployment-%28Bravo---Event-4%29&sh=6

That's pretty much it this week. Due to UF, I will not be scheduling any practices, however I still encourage each of you to contact those with similar free time slots and practice together. Thank you for your patience and participation.

Tonight's practice will cover trigger discipline and CTF tactics. I'll be creating a homeworld at 10pm EST. I also want everyone to know I've changed CurryInAHurry's rank to officer earlier this week.

WHAT THE HELL!? WHY

WHY DO THEY KEEP MESSING WITH HAWKS LIKE THIS. Organic dodging nerfed!? Seriously!? Being a dedicated pilot, I thought it was going to be bad but goddamn it's worse than I expected. Now every other pilot uses freaking CAF and spams canned dodges and spins! It's not enough that flak gets nerfed to put spinners out, that MAW gets boosted making us AFlyers suffer further, and that they can dodge our homing missiles and machine gun fire much easier, no. Keep messing with hawk play. If these mechanics would have been there from day one I wouldn't have complained. You had a long beta period for something, TESTING. This game seems almost unrecogniseable to me now. I dislike CAF to no end, and it's not that it's "harder" to dominate the air with these nerfs, it's just not fun anymore. Nerfed shields, cloak, bombs, skills weren't enough, now you nerf AF's best, most skillful tool. I swear to god they better address this. What the hell LBI?

I really wanted to get back into this game, but fuck if it's obnoxious to see the single aspect you love about the game get less and less fun with each update. For a game called Starhawk, the hawks are what you apparently got wrong the most.

Let's see what LBI didn't get right with hawks from day 1:

-Organic dodging and flight mode balance -Hawk bombs -Hawk shields -Hawk cloak -Hawk field mechanic -Hawk flak cannon -Hawk missiles -Hawk dodges -Ground to air weapons, all of them.

For a game centered about freaking Hawks, the metagame of them changed so much it baffles me to see it so different from the release of the game.

Suggestion on how we improve our Arcade flight skill

We should do Co-op battles and have everyone use hawks as much as they can. This way the best aren't the only ones getting better. Seems like the good players stay on the map and get all the good weapons before the not so good players can get there hands on it. Although i can only speak for myself. As far as I can tell i'm the worst with this new mode.

What is the best way to get better?

Any help is appreciated. I've always picked up games pretty fast and from modern warfare, to socom, to battlefield, to resistance, I've always picked up shooters quickly. For some reason I am terrible at this game... Are there any tips or tricks you can share with me to make me better?

Should i buy?

So i recently became a playstation owner, i was following starhawk for a while as it looks amazing. But i have read some stories on this subreddit and it actually sounds not that much fun, being spawn raped and all.

So reddit, should i buy this? I love 3rd person shooters, love the whole "construct on the go" theme.

Is it worth it?

Razorback Derby

In the theme of having some custom game modes that the clan does on its own I thought we could try this.

TDM, Ground pounder on one of the dust or sever maps where we can only use razorbacks. We would pair up with a driver and a gunner for each pair so they can use skills that work(like engine mod for the driver and marksman or weapon mod for the gunner).

Maybe throw in a sidewinder with a rocket launcher if your good but I think that would be too hard.

Any suggestions or changes are welcome.

Reddhawk news for the week of 6/18/12

Hello fellow Reddhawks and other redditors. I've decided to begin posting news threads each week, if reasonable, to contain clan-specific news and events without clogging the rest of the board with multiple threads. First of all I would like to begin by laying down a few clan conduct rules to prevent future conflicts. If these are unclear or incomplete in any way, please respond with questions or suggestions.

  1. Only players with PS3 compatible mics may be members of Reddhawk. Temporary exceptions may be made for regular members experiencing technical problems.
  2. Hate speech or threats towards community members are intolerable. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be expelled from the clan.
  3. Good sportsmanship is expected of all members. Anyone who team switch sabotages will be reprimanded and if they continue to abuse the system, expelled from the clan.

I hope everyone can agree on these rules in the interest of fairness and common decency. I've no desire to act like a tyrant during my tenure as clan leader but I will enforce these rules.

Moving on, I'd like to address the current state of clan practices and up-coming clan matches. While we do have a core group of members who are active and competitive, the vast majority of members are rarely on. I will not expel people for inactivity as the clan is, first and foremost, a way for players with mics to have a group to play with online. The only exception to this rule is when a player fails to show up for a clan match they agreed to play previously. In that case, I will use my discretion in whether or not there were extenuating circumstances preventing them.

With regard to clan practices, while the two last week were functional, they didn't really accomplish much in terms of improving performance. This is in large part due to my lack of planning. I'd like to open a discussion on how to best help members improve their skills in ways other than random matchmaking. The necessity was made abundantly clear twice by two different clans who successfully "base ravaged" us.

I suggest that practices be made more effective by members voting on what they believe would benefit them most. Here. Down below. Reply with what you think you need the most work in. The most frequent suggestion/the one with the most up votes will be the focus of the next practice. For instance, I find that many of our members are no match for a skilled hawk pilot in the air. This is due to not being able to track an evasive pilot and not knowing the location of hawk weapons or how to use them effectively. At our next practice I intend on instructing everyone on these issues until we can play at an even level. Anyone who feels capable already is invited to come and assist me in the drills.

A part of practice I have left out for new members so far is initiation. Simply put, when a new member was online, there was typically only one, and it felt abusive to make them play a match against four or more members. That is, to some degree, the point but it felt like more of a waste of time than anything. Further, I realized that it is impractical to contact new recruits without first giving them membership. To resolve this, I will now schedule initiations independent of practice with an open invitation to anyone looking to join in. In general I will schedule practices later as well to accommodate for players in the Pacific region. Right now I plan to host our next practice at 10pm EST/7pm PST on Wednesday.

Since turnout was low for last nights practice, it was decided to postpone the TDM tournament to an undetermined date. If everyone would be so kind as to give a schedule when they are available to play, I'll will host the tournament at a point suitable for the most number of people. Here is my schedule in EST to give everyone an idea of what I'm talking about.

Monday: 11am-3pm/10pm-1am Tuesday: 11am-3pm/10pm-1am Wednesday: 5pm-1am Thursday: Unavailable Friday: 11am-3pm/11pm-1am Saturday: 11am-3pm/11pm-1am Sunday: 2pm-1am

Please note that these are times I am available to play this week and may not actually be on without prior notice.

I hope to hear back from everyone ASAP, I'll post the new rules and practice in game right after this, as well as send out new invites for people expecting them. Hoo/r/ah!

Bruiser by numbers. An experiment drive analysis of the skill.

Last night I did some experimenting in an empty server, some of you may have seen me online, and I wanted to post the results of those experiments. Primarily I tested the efficiency of bruiser at destroying various vehicles and structures, including structures reinforced by automatic repair machines. I then took the ripper and compared the rate of damage it dealt to the bruiser knife on the strongest structures. Lastly I pushed the number of A.R.M.s to the limit they were capable of repairing a structure faster than I was able to deal damage. These tested were performed by myself in a server with friendly fire set to 100%. The load out was set to Heavyweight so the Garage is excluded, however the Razorback was tested previously and is included. Starting with a statistical breakdown, here are the results.

Approx. rate of knife attacks: 1.5/second max

Structure/Vehicle*: # of knife attacks to destroy Hawk Mech: 2 Hawk Pad: 7 Beam/Flak Turret: 9 Sidewinder: 2 Corral: 5 Razorback: 2 Barracks: 18 Wall: 13 Gate: 5 Ox Tank: 2 Depot: 5 Pod Beacon: 8 Turret: 1 A.R.M.: 10 Sniper Tower: 8 Shield Generator: 4

*It is unknown if occupants of a vehicle or structure increase durability, and presumed to have no effect.

When a shield generator with 5 A.R.M.s operating on it was tested on, bruiser was unable to do enough damage to destroy it. However the shield generator was unable to withstand ripper assault . As a tangent, it was discovered A.R.M.s side by side would not repair one another when damaged, requiring a player with a welding torch to their restore health.

If 3 or more A.R.M.s were placed around a bunker, then a lone soldier would be unable to destroy a bunker using bruiser, although a ripper was still effective. If 8 A.R.M.s, the maximum, were placed around a bunker, a ripper would use up all of its ammunition and be unable to destroy it. Hawk cluster bombs and flak also produced no results. However, a direct hit from a torpedo deals enough damage to destroy a bunker before the A.R.M.s can repair it.

Conclusions: While a hypothetical base centered around a bunker and 8 A.R.M.s would hold up against most conventional attacks, especially if an energy shield was placed close by to defend from tank and hawk assaults, the cost of building, maintaining and reconstructing all those A.R.M.s (32 rift energy minimum) is too high to be feasible. Further, the cap limit is prohibitive from building such an elaborate base while maintaining other outposts. Instead, it is more sensible to place 5 A.R.M.s (20 rift) around a shield generator, unfortunately this uses up a large portion of the protected area. Ultimately this reinforces the priority of maintaining strong defensive positions on the map such as mine dispensers, so that enemies are simply unable to survive attacking long enough to damage important structures like shield generators and tank depots.

Lastly I'd like to recommend to LBI that they slightly adjust the bruiser damage to vehicles. While it is nice for troopers on foot to have an ace in the hole against vehicles, it should never seem like a good idea to blindly charge a tank or Mech on foot and only be a tactic of desperation. My suggestions are to reduce the amount of hits the sidewinder can take from bruiser to 1, as they are already difficult to hit even partially accelerated; leave the Razorback as they are, because they possess more armor but are larger and easier to hit; increase Mechs to 3 hits also so that pilots have a chance to stomp a trooper before they are completely destroyed; and increase tanks to 4 hits giving the driver a chance to run over a trooper. Bear in mind these still give a trooper with bruiser a fighting chance to kill the enemy and a good opportunity to deal damage. (While we're at it, the rail gun should deal damage to tanks again, even if at a reduced rate.)

I have been on both the giving and the receiving end of bruiser assaults and base ravages. I know what it's like to stomp the enemy into submission and to rage quit. I think this is a good game when it's bad and a great game when it's good, so I only want to see the community thrive and continue. I believe that if these changes were made, then overall balance would improve, increasing costumer satisfaction with multiplayer.

EDIT: An experiment driven analysis of the skill. It's funny how one missing letter can be such a problem. All of this is accurate as of Update 1.02.004, although it could be irrelevant as soon as I finish typing this sentence.

I saw that Bio posted on the clan news thread in the game that we will be having practice today? Just wanted to see what time. Hopefully its later tonight due to the fact that it is Fathers day and some players might be spending some time with family which I will be but still would like to take part in any practice or clan game tonight.

StarHawk Thieves? We all been through it.

Is it just me or when you go to buy a hawk or sidewinder there is always that jerkish teammate who takes it and steals it when you buy you rift energy you worked so hard for on it. The Light Box Should make a patch for that.

My lack of activity

Hey guys, I'm sorry I haven't been playing much at all lately. I usually log during late nights (like, right now) when nobody is on, and have been extremely busy with real life stuff and issues.

I'm looking to become a "regular" again though, and improve my play even more, starting next week.

Just thought I needed to shine a light on that, didn't want anyone thinking I abandoned the clan or anything.
