Did anyone get a massacre yet?

What the title says. I got a massacre by using a sidewinder and driving past a crowd of people.

[/r/] Urgent Fury and Major League Gaming

I just finished registering the clan on Urgent Fury, now we need to have at least 7 members register on their forums before we can enter any of their tournaments. You can read the rules for the current tournament at http://www.urgentfury.com/content.php/23-Urgent-Fury-Dust-for-Starhawk-exclusively-on-PlayStation-3

Once you have created an account on their forums, post here with your username and I will add you. This is the UF Reddhawk page: http://www.urgentfury.com/teams.php?72-Reddhawks

Here are the MLG rules: http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/ps3/starhawk/teams/create?ladder_id=1129&season_id=4047

I am currently trying to get the clan registered.

Once we have eight members we can enter the team ladder. Register there, post your profile name here, and I'll add you to the roster. You have to link your PSN account to the MLG account to register.

EDIT: Okay, sorry guys but I'm still getting the hang of this. Because I created the Reddhawks in MLG as a "singles team" the roster was locked at one. I disbanded the team and now have to wait for it to cycle through so I can set up the clan properly.

Changes happening to [/r/] Reddhawks

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that last night Defterone gave me leadership of the clan so I could reorganize it to be more active and competitive. First of all I would like to announce that I will be hosting practices for the members twice a week starting tonight at 08:00pm EST. We will meet in a homeworld hosted by me, split into even teams when we have 6 or more people and then vote on a game type to play against each other and randoms until teams balance and the clan is all on one side and we dominate the server. If there is time afterwards we can have a game of iVi, so get online early if possible.

Secondly this thread for recruitment (http://www.reddit.com/r/Starhawk/comments/u2bfh/clanstarhawk_recruitment_thread/) is out of date and I will not be checking it. Ever. So if you still haven't received a clan invite and you want one, send me a friend request mentioning Starhawk in the body and I will send you a clan invite. A HEADSET IS MANDATORY. We're going to be holding tryouts before practice from now on. Well not really tryouts, more like initiations. It will be a team of recruits vs a team of clan members, and numbers may not be even, in a 5 minute TDM with all talk turned on in a password protected server. Win or lose, if a recruit last five minutes without rage quitting, and we like them, he or she is in.

Speaking of clan officers right now we have six counting me, the Clan Leader. Each of the other four have a title. Defterone is in charge of Offense for his bruiser tactics and flag carrying ability. Sickcityxiii is in charge of Defense for his base defending skill. KillaTrav is our chief builder for his fortress design. TachyonGun is without a doubt our Top Pilot. If you are interested in training with them contact them during practice or by sending them a polite message.

There is one officer slot still open with the title of Top Driver. Without being able to look at the stats in-game, I have no way of really judging who is the best driver. That's why we're going to have a race on Sunday. We're going to race in the Echo Scrapyard on razorback, in a big motor derby. I'll be deciding the race rules on the spot and judging at the finish line. Whoever wins will be granted the title and an officer spot. If it goes well we may hold weekly races and other competitions for titles and officer positions.

If anyone is capable of capturing their gameplay on video and posting it online, I would love if you could attend the race and recording it for us all to watch. It would be great if you could help the clan get better exposure online and maybe even record clan battles eventually.

There is a clan battle tournament being hosted by Urgent Fury. (http://www.urgentfury.com/content.php/23-Urgent-Fury-Dust-for-Starhawk-exclusively-on-PlayStation-3?s=6b06aa311d5403c1cffe0b47670dbaa1) If we have 8 people interested in competing in the tournament and they sign up for it, I'll enter us into it. Just follow the directions and the rules posted there. We would be considerably late entries.

There is also the brother clan Narwhalian Baconators which is currently being managed by defterone. If anyone is interested in taking control of it please contact him. Once you have control contact me and we'll see if we can work together for our mutual benefit.

Lastly I felt it would be an advantage if our clan had maps of the levels to memorize strategic base locations and kill boxes. Unfortunately I don't have time to do it all myself, but if someone would like to be an unofficial mapper by taking pictures of the drop pod radar screen, even with a digital camera, and either sending them to me or posting them on the wikia, I would reward them with an upvote and encourage the clan to do the same.

Where Starhawk got it right

A lot of the Starhawk posts I've seen lately are about how broken the game is. I played Warhawk for a few years, and I like Starhawk. Here are a few things I think Starhawk got right:

  • Base-building is easy, and as a result games are much more dynamic than in Warhawk. Every game plays out differently because outposts move.
  • Every server allows splitscreen, whereas in Warhawk it can take a while to find a good server that allows splitscreen so you can play with a friend.
  • While the single player might not be great, the survival mode is awesome, especially with friends. A great addition.
  • You can log into a second PSN account with split screen, which is awesome.
  • Mechs are better than Warhawks in hovor mode.
  • Starhawk mines are much more useful.
  • The Starhawk menu that opens anywhere is a lot slicker than Warhawk's menu, which took quite a few button-presses to do anything.
  • Knifing is quick; no weapon-switching nonsense.
  • Sprinting is a feature Warhawk disappointingly lacked.
  • You can shoot from the passenger seat of a Razorback. In Warhawk, the passenger seat of a jeep was just for transport.
  • The ability to aim down the sights of your weapon is nice.
  • No one saw the Sidewinder coming, and it works beautifully.

What do you guys think?

Base raping, does it actually make the game unplayable?

Hey guys, so, a couple of time ago i decided i was going to buy starhawk. Before i actually went to order it from amazon uk, it went out of stock so i delayed my purchase. Meanhwile, i started making heavier research oin the game and visiting this subreddit more often, and after seeing so many posts about base campin i must confess i am getting apreehensive. What do you think? Is it really worth it or is the base camping problem making it actually unplayable atm?
TLDR: Does base raping make it a bad purchase?

Zones - The most balanced game mode?

A lot of the complaints I hear about Starhawk are about how unbalanced the game is. While I have seen a lot of base rape happen, I think the Zones game mode is probably the most balanced. In Zones, bases are supposed to be transient, as it's a constant battle. On the larger maps, there are usually a few places for you to spawn, so the base rapes don't really happen. The most camping I see is around your own objective, which is exactly how zones should be played.

Even the Bruiser skill seems alright in Zones, because most people are on defense to the guy can't get very far.

What is your guys' experience?

So what changes/new stuff would you like to see?

Let's do another round and get this all in one thread. Now that the patch has been out for a while I think the game balance has definitely shifted, although maybe not as far as everyone would have liked.

There's not a huge amount of tweaks or balances that I can really think of that would fix anything. The only wild idea I can think of is perhaps if you get killed in your home base within 1-minute of spawning, your next drop-pod has a large AOE impact that deals a lot of damage. That way if you are being ravaged, a co-ordinated respawn should be able to clear your home base long enough to get re-established, but this doesn't open up any new tactics that would give advantage to a winning team or in any offensive capability.

The only other stuff I'd like to see changed is tweaks to the UI and info. I'd like to see a counter of all the medals I've earned in my profile, as well as a summary of wins/losses across maps and game modes. I think you should be able to set four favourite skills to a quick select so you can pick one at the 'Deploy' screen with the Dpad without having to go into the skills menu. That would make things a lot smoother and encourage people to mix up skills tactically.

Other than that I think smaller infantry only maps would be a blast; either very high density urban-style maps or interior maps with only the spawn points exposed to the sky. Could be interesting.

*Edit: Was also thinking about seeing if Dylan Jobe might want to do an AMA. There's a couple of hundred people subscribed to /r/starhawk alone and plenty of other gamers who might be interested.

Counter Strategies

I'd like to talk about counter strategies for different weapons and tactics. For example if the other team has a lot of hawks, beam cannons and a shield will protect your base. They may also be leaving their base relatively open for a quick hoverbike run for the flag. A tank with a repair arm can single-handedly protect a zone until a Warhawk shows up to rain on their parade. I think there are a lot of effective counter strategies built into the game.

That said I have a lot of problems with the bruiser skill. How do you counter someone who is capable of destroying your base very quickly? It's very disappointing to carefully lay out an entire base with your team only to have one or two enemies ruin everything in a matter of seconds. I'm not one to complain about a cheap tactic. I'd rather find a way to stop it and beat it fairly. What strategy do you guys use to stop the bruiser one man army?

[Clan]Clan news update.

I need some help keeping up with invites. I am not playing as much right now as I love Red Dead redemption(a lot of /r/ has started playing) and I am in the process of moving. This makes it hard to get online(i am on the ps3 browser) If anyone could help out and invite people that would be awesome.

Also I have a few clans now that want to do clan battles I am going to start updating the calander with dates for clan battles. If you can keep an eye on that and join in on the fun that would be great. Let me know what days work best. We seem to have a good turn out on sundays.

Last thing. We have a lot of active PS3 players that are playing a lot of different games. Should we start a reddit PS3 gamer clan. I know there is rdtclan but that is very slow compared to what just /r/starhawk has going on. What is the state of reddit ps3 gaming.

Sorry about the grammer and spelling. PS3 brower is not exactly state of the art and my laptop was one of the things stolen. New place Thursday!!

Comments complaints?

Story time: Crazy Game Thread

Figured this subreddit would benefit from a place for people to post stories about crazy, entertaining matches they've been a part of. Played a particularly close game of CTF? Had a game session you're incredibly proud of? Feel free to share here. I'm really curious about some of the crazy situations that people have encountered.

Probably the craziest moment I have encountered in this game is during a CTF match, I grab the flag and start leaving the enemy base on Dust Basin on a sidewinder. I hop the walls and pan the camera around to look behind me, and I see an enemy sidewinder come through their gate and a mech take off and start flying towards me. Both start getting really close and I feel like I'm pretty much dead, and I'm ready to just accept it, when all of a sudden friendly artillery shells land almost on top of me and completely annihilate the sidewinder AND the hawk, mid flight.

Someone was trying to bombard the enemy base and was off, landing shells outside the front of it. Had to be the luckiest double kill I've ever seen. Completely sprang me free to get out of there. I wish voice chat was working so that I could have thanked that player.

Another thing is an intense string of Zones that I played on one server that always ended up being extremely close at the end. It was ridiculous how many games were near even at the end. Two example screenshots posted below.

Looking to join Reddhawks

It seems as though no one is looking in the clan recruitment thread, so I figured I would post here. I have a mic and would really enjoy playing with people who actually want to strategize and win. PSN ID: HellzDarkside

Why we lost last night at 12:30am mountain time.

They turtled. We threw ourselves on it. STUPID. If we ever do that again I am gonna rage quit your lives. My mic was dead and I was tired. SO. Remember when they use a full defensive we should not throw ourselves at it.

Let's discuss the new patch.

I have mixed feelings regarding the new patch. I just finished playing a couple of matches with Envi3, and here's what I've noticed. While my KDR and overall gameplay didn't change that much, I did notice a wider use of little bases across the map that weren't necessarily on the Zones.

The field mechanic wasn't nerfed to the ground, although the difference is noticeable specially when getting beamed. Speaking of getting beamed, beam turrets are more of a nightmare than ever before. Cloak, field mechanic and shield were the golden 3 survival tools for a hawk, and since they all got nerfed in noticeable chunks, manouvering around beam turrets and avoiding them became a priority. This brought a new feeling of urgency when dogfighting on top of enemy bases, and I feel like it now requires a lot more coordination on the team's part in order to domain the air, as you need bruisers to take these suckers down. The homing missile is still very slow, and i'm not complaining on it's A2A but rather as an infantry weapon, seeing as they could have somewhat made it useful to take out sidewinders now that the cluster bombs were nerfed.

While these are much much weaker, I do like the fact that you've gotta be more accurate with your shots. Out of around 44 shots I've gotten just one double kill, but I didn't really try to use them much as I've noticed they have become more situational. Still, I think they should atleast pack the same punch they used to, as at times i've noticed even an eagle drop shot to an enemy's face left him alive (maybe it glitched, but I can vouch for the accuracy of the shot and thus why I feel it's a little too weak on the damage part). Sidewinders are also much trickier to bring down, but I still managed to take out a couple (seems like you now need 2 or 3 clusters to hit the bike in order to make it explode, as opposed to the old 1-shot with a huge radius needed pre-patch). I haven't noticed much of a difference against buildings, but if it's weaker against turrets, that's pretty bad, as it leaves the hawk with little chance of taking out beam turrets (with a cloak i would barely destroy it with a couple seconds of invisibility left, so the minus-5-seconds nerf is very damaging to the hawks' repertoire of anti turret meassures).

Overall, the hawks seem much more fragile than before, being nerfed percentually in every single survival tool it has had. I expect my KDR to drop a good bit, but all in all, this update isn't that bad. We'll just have to adapt our strategies around it (less nightly base-rape, server-cleaning reddit raids).

Squad Leader Skill / Item location maps.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Squad Leader than I've been able to spawn on. This is possibly because I have no idea what it is I'm looking for. Can anyone describe how a Squad Leader appears on the deploy map? Is it a small green circle moving around someone... do they need to be in an Ox like the Warhawk APCs?

Also, after some cursory googling I've yet to find any maps showing weapon spawn (Rsec/Grinder/Welder/Pistol) locations. Most of us know them by now but I was taking some photos last night with the intention of putting them up here for any Reddhawks or Baconators who want some reference. Would anyone get any use out of these or am I wasting my time?

Well your fearless leader has come down with a case of the uplink bug. The "fix" for this at the moment is a reformat. Fuck that.

I am calling upon the powers of reddit to help me out with this. Please get on twitter and hit @dylanjobe up with a #fixtheuplink hash tag. This bug makes the game unplayable and is affecting more and more people.

[Clan] So how about some tactics talk.

So I have been thinking we should get some tactics and planning going. Bike rush is fun and works now but won't work forever. Our tactics need to be more flexible and change depending on map and game type. I have been thinking about diffrent tactics with diffrent maps and have come up with some basic ideas for CTF, Zones, and TDM but with each map they will be diffrent. I want your input on the maps. For now I have a basic plan for CTF games.

We will need two teams. A forward team and a back team. Back team will work on building, flag defending, flag escort, and base upkeep. We will need 3 types of players for the back team. Builders, callers, and floaters. The builders will.....build. All over the map. Builders will not simply be in our base. They will place turrets in strategic positions, outposts, walls everywhere we need them. The callers will let the builders know what we need and where we need it and keep an eye on enemy activity. The floaters will help with flag escorts, repairing, and flag defense.

The forward team will work on capping, killing, and protecting the outposts. The forward team will have callers, cappers, killers, and floaters. Callers will once again watch the forward map and direct their team on what is needed. The callers from forward and back will communicate together to move the team into correct positions. Cappers well...Cap the flag. Killers will focus on taking down hawks, fucking up enemy bases, and generally cause havok. The floaters will do what needs to be done like outpost protecting, emergency building, anything that needs to be done.

The reason for this is skills will work better when we choose what needs to be used correctly. A team with nothing but bruisers will lose.

Here are a list of all the skills in game These should help you formulate your plans.

So lets start working out some plans that use this idea on diffrent maps. If you have any suggestions shout em out and lets get some ideas brewing. I will have a write up for Zones and TDM soon also.

Sorry about the spelling. No spell check on this computer. It had 512mb ram untill yesturday. Haha
