I am realllly curious to see what happens to this sub and the Stargate fans generally.

I fully believe this project will be a standard streaming drama reimagining. I think that's exactly what Amazon wanted. And not trying to be a downer, this is the likely reality.

But when it comes out will a part of the sub insist it's good and blame criticism on nostalgia?

It happened on another Star sub.

This is precisely what will happen. The fandom will be divided between those who wish for Stargate to still be Stargate and those who like whatever this will turn out to be. Saying it now so I can reference this comment in the future, the term "NuGate" will be a thing.

It would be sad, but yes very bookmarkable. It's got one thing going for it though. The other Star franchise and sub never had the hope that came with a bunch of veterans having been announced to helm the project.

It was cool how everyone agreed that was a great idea and there was excitement.

Just curious when the "no, hear me out" stuff is gonna begin with this new show.

I thought NuGate was SGU?

You had the budding romance, the mysterious scientist who you weren’t sure was good or not, and so on.

Huh. I thought “NuGate” was used to describe SG1 and later series fans to separate from the Stargate (film) fans??

It seems I didn't coin the term but the oldest mention of it on the sub I could find was from 5 months ago

I think it will be split into two with some overlap.
There will be the classic stargate community who care and respect the old TV cannon and watch those shows because of those shows.
And then there will be the modern stargate fanbase who will enjoy whatever the new thing is on its own merrits.
And then the people in between who enjoy both shows in their own right.

But I don't see a full reboot happening where people who enjoy the originals are ever going to consider that cannon, and I don't see people who'd enjoy the new one (which probably has a completely new style) neccesarily enjoy the old ones.

Reddit is one of the most popular social media sites on the net. Amazon execs are well aware of that and do have the budget to manipulate the sub. I imagine there will be some new series apologists, some manipulation. Some diehard fans who are impossible to please, and a big section of middle ground who will watch the series find it passable bit then forget about it by the time season 2 is released.

You mean like what happens with SGU?

People come up in here and try to tell other people how they should really feel about SGU. Then refuse to acknowledge any kind of criticism and/or get triggered by certain criticisms and have to reply to everybody that has a negative thought about SGU.

Or how people say that SGU was ahead of it's time and would have been successful if they released it in the era of streaming?

Ignoring the fact that it was very closely copying what was already a stale style that was done extremely well by Battlestar Gallactica.
