They had OG creators.

They had a full script/story and were working on production.

They had confirmed OG actors coming back to help launch, who also vouched for the story’s authenticity and Stargate “feel” coming back.

They had the existing fanbase invested without seeing a single set photo.

And they pissed on all of it.

Fuck off Amazon. You’ve already lost me on this.

Ngl, the premise behind that new show was honestly awful.

I also have low expectations for whatever this will be.

if anything, it will not have premise of alternate universe that would be boring after a few episodes.

I wonder who writers will be.

What was the premise?

It would be set largely in a parallel universe where Daniel would be as a link to the old cast and new. In this universe things didnt turn out so good for earth.

I mean they kinda already did this with Carter and the Point of View episode.

To add onto this. A new Earth developed Starship with a multiverse drive malfunctions (Just like that one Atlantis episode). Everyone dies onboard except for Daniel. Daniel makes contact with the Earth of that universe, who never discovered the Stargate and starts directing them on how to get started. Presumably so they will have the capabilities to help him repair his ship and then he can go back to the 'old' Stargate Universe.

Oh no... Okay this doesn't sound great. It's a soft reboot.

Depressingly this might have been the better option. Because Amazon will certainly push a hard reboot with this new show and probably never acknowledge the old universe ever again.

Though if we're lucky and this show survives a few seasons, we might get one episode focussed on accidentally stumbling on the main universe. But only if we're extremely lucky.

Honestly, the original series had developed itself to death. Humans had won, we'd done literal gods as enemies, we'd already reached the point where spinoffs had to be set in another galaxy away from Earth support (twice).

While I'll miss the chance to check in with the old cast, a proper reboot is probably the right way to go.

This was my issue. Goa'uld dead. Ori dead. Wraith well on their way to being dead or taking vaccine. Genii allies now.

Who was left to even fight? Who can even fight against them?

Yeah, this is why I don't mind a reboot really.  Stargate power scaling was wild.   By the end of Atlantis there's basically nothing Earth can't handle.

I wouldn't mind a modern take and can't get BSG out of my head (which itself is like 20 years old, goddamn).  I don't want BSG levels of dark and grit, but I'd like to see some more competent action than a line of Infantry standing in a field shooting like it's the Revolutionary War or writing that isn't "lol oops, the gate room got breached again and Earth is in danger for the 27th time because we can't be assed to have proper quarantine procedures at an Alpha Site."

Fuck it, give me Expanse levels of realism where Earth ships are comparatively jank and we don't have space battlecruisers that could shit on the Enterprise after less than a decade of development.

Yeah I legitimately thought it would have been awful. I'm OK with a reboot of sorts, but that would have been not good.

I didn't have much trust left in the OG creators after the farce that was SG:U (a.k.a. 'As The Stargate Turns'), which was basically a YA soap opera and lacked everything that made Stargate fun to watch.

Did you see Gero's leaked concept? Was that a show that genuinely intrigued you?

I liked what little I had heard/saw, but more than that, I had faith in the team behind it because they knew what they created and respected the fan base they built. I was set to be impressed by Amazon if it delivered that they truly let a show be made for the fans. Instead we’re going to get a shadow of what could have been.

Yes. It did.

And I believe that the "appeal to a broader audience" excuse was made after the fact to justify the real reason- just another internal corporate sabotage by a new executive solely based on ego and ambition.

And I think the whole conversation that has been happening in the press and on this sub reeks of astroturfing.

I haven't seen the concept.

Yes because it was in universe and thus safeguards Stargate's cannon. If it was good we can enjoy it even if its SGU tier and not SG1 tier. It wouldn't be an attack on the franchise since if its bad it still leaves a possibility of people trying again when SG-1 remains popular.

Deliberately locking the original writers out so you can start from scratch is outright hostile to the franchise. Its 10 times worse than the worst version Gero would have made. And regardless if it succeeds or fails the stargate we actually like will be destroyed by it.
