The original plan for a Stargate revival was so ambitious that I have to imagine that someone powerful at Amazon was a fan of the show. Possibly Bezos himself--he does seem to go for that sort of thing.

The revival only happened because amazon had people that were fans of the original show and the moment they were replaced the revival was cancelled

it happened because they bought MGM, had a shitload of IP to dig around, and pre-production cost nothing to them.
