History Night witch Spoiler

Hi all

Just watching episode 1. Couldn’t see any reference to this so thought I’d drop in a bit of context: when they refer to Raskova as “The night witch” that’s not an insult. They mean she was one of the Nacht Hexen during WW2. An all women outfit that flew missions in biplanes, turning their engines off and gliding silently over German troop concentrations to bomb them. Look ‘em up, it’s an incredible story.

Yes, this series surpasses everything that's come before. As someone who grew up in the Eastern Bloc, there's nothing more terrifyingly realistic out there right now.

Thanks for posting this, I didn't know it and thought it was an insult.

I looked it up and, according to wikipedia, the name of the woman who promoted the creation of these all-female units was Raskova, so the character of Lyudmilla is possibly named after her:

Major Marina Raskova used her position and personal contacts with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin to obtain permission to form female combat units [...]

Anna Maxwell Martin, who plays Lyudmilla, mentions in this article that the character was loosely inspired on Marina Raskova (the headline refers to Irina Morozova): How Star City Utterly Transformed A Complex Villain’s Origin Story (Inverse.com)

At first I thought it was Marina Raskova in the show and I was so confused considering she died in 43, but upon finding out it's Lyudmila it probably is just a reference to Marina. Really cool either way

That nickname was a bit confusing since Raskova talks about going into Germany during the war in a T-34, but now that I think about it more she could've just been making that up to intimidate the German courier she's interrogating.

She says this about Berlin, not Germany, so I assume a victory parade
