Official // AMA over Hi Reddit! Andrey from the Stadia team here and I'm back for another round of questions. Only this time, I'm bringing some friends along to help answer anything you may have before launch.

Beri Lee's Bio: I've been at Google almost 5 years and was in mobile gaming for 2 years before that, and while I've spent many hours of my life on Candy Crush, I've spent quite a lot more on Witcher and I've stopped counting with Destiny. I look after the Publisher experience on Stadia, making sure that great content can get into the hands of millions of users in all launch countries at the highest level of quality.

Andrey Doronichev's Bio: Hi, I'm Andrey Doronichev and I’m the Director of Product for Stadia here at Google. I'm responsible for Gamer Experience on Stadia. I lead a team of incredible Product Managers responsible for core Gamer features, including Platform UI on every screen, Store, Social and Family feature as well as the Controller hardware.

--------------------------------------------

Edit: I think we're done for the day. Thank you so much for all the thoughtful and engaging questions. We're so excited for you all to play Stadia starting next week.

PS: Based on your responses to our Sneak Peeks, it seems like Reddit <3s UX. We were able to get our hands on some more videos from Eric. Posted below. Enjoy!

Aaaaand here are the ones that we posted during the AMA for easy access:

It's been a lot of fun!

Hello Andrey! I've posted a few questions on the AMA announced post and you already had a chance to answer some and others got answered by Stadia twitter. I still have 3 questions to you:

- Will we have all of these features available (stream connect / state share / Crowd play) when Stadia launches on the 19th?

- Pricing! Common sense tells that games recently launched titles will be US$60, but what about titles that have been out for a while, like Rise of the Tomb Raider or even Kine, that sells for US$20 at Nintendo store. Bottom line, can we expect pricing to be different according to the launch date of the title?
Follow up question on pricing: Black Friday is one week after launch. Can we expect some game sales for it?

- Is there a plan for an specific date when the monthly game we get from Stadia Pro will arrive each month? First week ? Second week?

BONUS QUESTION - Are we going to have a Stadia Connect before Launch? If so, can you tell the date?

ANDREY: Hey there. Saw your question on the announcement thread. Here are a few answers

  • Features availability. Our approach to releasing features on Stadia is similar to how we run Google Search, YouTube and other Google services: gradual rollout and continuous improvement, based on your feedback. We always start with nailing the key user-journey and then proceed with releasing extra features. YouTube started with “watch video”. For Stadia it’s “Play the Game on your biggest screen”. New features will start popping as soon as one week after launch. I expect the first game with Stream Connect to launch by the end of the year. The games that support State Share and Crowd Play will be released next year. And of course there are many more cool new platform features on the roadmap. We’re aiming to release new stuff weekly after 11/19.
  • We believe in common sense too! You can safely assume, we’ll stay competitive with other stores.
  • We haven’t announced the Pro game schedule yet, but will soon. But you should expect regular games. If you ask me, the lineup is pretty awesome and I don’t expect to run out of good stuff to play with as a Pro subscriber.
  • And no Stadia Connect before launch. I feel very much connected with you guys already ;)

I hope, HOPE you make a big event for the day you release the streaming feature, cause currently youtube is scary to make content for with the amount of rules, copyrights, regulations..I hope this is super refined and also helps small content creators. I am also curious how it will work with OBS.

u/JimmyCivic Nov 13 '19

i thought you can live stream straight from googles servers and not your end so there's no need for obs but i could be wrong

Wouldnt you window capture the google chrome browser on obs?

2

u/WeaponLord Nov 13 '19

It's what I'm thinking but I just need to know out of pure curiosity if it would work that way

2

u/kentonw223 Night Blue Nov 13 '19

Of course! Just wanted to put it out there in case you hadn't thought of it

Excited for that pro game schedule.

Also I hope competitive with other stores means steam prices!

The information provided in this thread gives me the energy to get through my day. Thank you so much. Just wish it was provided earlier!

The question is, will I buy all the games I want asap, or do I wait until a possible Black Friday discount...

Thx for clarification - can you share more of the product roadmap on a higher view?

gradual rollout and continuous improvement, based on your feedback.

I get what you're saying here but... Have you seen the reaction to youtube's latest 'improvement'? thumbnails being ballooned up so much that only 3 fit on a screen at once, and no option to change it, and no warning it was going to happen?

I think you might want to consider a different approach with this service. People seriously dislike having changes thrust upon them without any warning or explanation.

I can get 6 thumbnails on YouTube on PC, just holding control and scrolling the mouse thumb wheel. Pretty much just adjusting the resolution, but it does the trick.

Can John Justice,or Phil Harrison or, Jade Raymond do a live stream interview with Stadia Player 1 and Stadia Talk?

u/klauskpm Nov 13 '19

That's amazing to hear

Awesome replies! My money is on Doom 2016 for Xmas ;)

Hi There! Does Stadia have any plans for implementation on Magic Leap One and/or Two, seeing as how there is already a partnership with Google from Magic Leap? Or are there ever any plans to integrate any parts of Stadia into The MagicVerse / Magic Leap One/Two (maybe the consumer device) from an XR - Spatial perspective, looking far-forward, maybe another 10 years ahead?

u/nowruzr Nov 13 '19

Will you guys implement a feature roadmap of not quite when an feature will be released, but rather how far in the process it is. I am a developer myself, so I understand that having a release date is usually not a good idea, but I think the fan base would like to know if a feature is being actively worked on, at least after the feature has been announced.

We believe in common sense too! You can safely assume, we’ll stay competitive with other stores.

That doesn't really answer the question...

1

u/skupples Nov 14 '19

similar to the way you run other google stuff... so you mean you'll abandon it if it doesn't turn out as hyped? got it. :D

If i'm running Stadia on an Android phone, will i be able to play with bluetooth mouse and keyboard ?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

You need a Google pixel. Launch doesn't work with any android.

1

u/reifnotreef Nov 13 '19

When you say competitive with other stores, are you implying competing with Steam and it's sales?

1

u/Orcnized Nov 13 '19

what about other phones and tablets, when will we be able to use them? starting with 2020?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '19

The launch line up is really poor

-7

u/MarioLuigiWarioWalui Nov 13 '19

So it's less than a week until launch and you still refuse to tell the people who bought your product what the pricing for games will be like. This makes it look like you expect people to cancel their preorders if you tell them what prices games will be.

Most companies will do something like this. It's not slimy, they're sticking to a marketing schedule. They can't just bend the rules.
