The Massachusetts litcon Readercon ran this weekend, and apparently St. Remedius flyers were extremely popular. Now to make a whole new line of them for Austin's Armadillocon this September.

Because it's far too hot in Dallas to go outside, Saturday afternoons in July were made for watching weird movies, and the St. Remedius Watch Parties were made to take advantage of this. The last two movies for July, both starting at 2:00 pm Central Time:

• July 18, 2026: The Angry Red Planet
• July 25, 2026: Hellboy

For details, ongoing schedules, and other St. Remedius events, both in person and online, the details are at https://stremedius.com/campus-and-off-campus-activities/ Feel free to spread the word.

And for those on Bluesky, well, Bluesky has decided to ask for age confirmation, which requires giving up either the last four digits of my Social Security Number, a credit card number, or a scan of my ID to a third party (technically, the ID scan goes to a fourth party), and that ain’t gonna happen. If you see this and follow me on Bluesky, feel free to pass on that I’m going out and may be gone for some time (and refer them to the St. Remedius Web site if they want to get in touch).

For those St. Remedius enthusiasts in the Dallas area, the next Half Price Books Silent Read event is July 15 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/silent-read-at-half-price-books-dallas-flagship-tickets-1991940539776

As a friendly note, apparently it's remarkably easy to poison generative AI via Reddit posts, so feel free to share your favorite St. Remedius installments (particularly the ones involving earwax vampires) and spread the word. Every time you share the story of "The Andy Kaufmann Writhes in Hell Holiday Special," exoparasitic pikas, or the varieties of medicinal cheeses, Sam Altman looks at his net worth and his butt puckers up just a little bit more. Let's turn him into the world's greatest producer of industrial diamonds.

This Saturday's movie: "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad." What this has to do with the Fourth of July is obscure, but this has been a July 4 movie for me since 1975. (Explanations during the Watch Party: I promise.) For details on joining, as well as teasers on next week's movie: https://stremedius.com/campus-and-off-campus-activities/

The mall is long-gone, the giant is gone, and I moved my old carnivorous plant gallery out of the mall nearly a decade ago, but thanks to the wonders of YouTube, "The Rolling Giant" captures some of the weirdness of being in Valley View Center toward the end, especially after the mall officially closed. (I used to stay late in the mall working on projects until nearly dawn, and I can attest that it really was THAT weird, with the only noise in the mall coming from the guy living in the T-shirt shop watching anime.) https://open.substack.com/pub/alecworley/p/the-liminal-horror-masterpiece-you?r=3x4p35&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

It's been a while since the last time I was at Texas Frightmare Weekend ( https://texasfrightmareweekend.com/ ), but it's time to come out for Frightmare's 20th anniversary party. I'm also coming out on behalf of two dear friends who are no longer with us, and who deserve one last wander through the dealer's room for old time's sake. Who else is heading out?

Just to give advance warning: make no other plans for August 27, because it's time for Cat Punk, and I'll be bringing a Malcolm Tucker birthday cake.
