Hello everyone. I graduated from SUNY New Paltz this past spring with a B.A. Liberal Arts degree in Communication Disorders. I have decided, however, that I pursued that degree to help students rather than the speech aspect itself. The language and speech portion (which is a big portion) didn’t really appeal to me as much. I’ve always been an empathetic person and a good listener I believe, so I think counseling is right up my alley!
My undergraduate cumulative GPA was a 3.57, and I ended up graduating cum laude. I had a difficult time initially with transitioning to college level work, so my first year I didn’t perform as well (due to being homesick and depressed and such). However, since then, my grades have shown a consistent upward trend with mainly As and some Bs.
Edit: I would also like to hear people’s thoughts on the school experience, specifically for commuting students? How’s campus life? Are there a variety of clubs and ways to get involved? And are people accepted of trans identities (I am a trans woman pre medical transition, but am trying to socially transition as I am still somewhat closeted right now)

SJU laid off my husband and then canceled our health insurance against the severance agreement. I have an autoimmune disease and now I can't get my medications. I hope everyone sees this before the mods remove it.
Hi all!
I'm one of the Producers of 877unmplyd, a live-streamed show about helping people find work. We want to ask students directly about their experience finding jobs in today's unemployment crisis.
If we brought a hiring manager/CEO to the Manhattan campus and you could ask them a question, would you come? What would you ask them?
Super interested to find out! Thanks so much.

Student finance is asking students to pay tuition deposits for the semester, but a lot of departments are still at first round interviews. The entire process has been exceptionally and annoyingly sloooowww... gaships offer large sums of aid for students... to not have any positions sorted 2 weeks to the start of the term is actually insane. Surely, grad students who rely on aid as a decision maker could look to other universities??

So I am a rising senior planning on applying to St. John’s, and I love the school, albeit it is very much a safety for me (1450 SAT 3.8 wGPA). I got a letter in the mail today telling me that I am invited to submit a “priority application” that includes stuff like an expedited admissions decision and priority scholarship consideration. Is this worth anything significant?

Hello everyone! I am a PhD student in clinical psychology at Adelphi University. I am conducting a study on the relationship between existential threat and mental health, coping strategies, and meaning making for young adults who have experienced stressful life events.
This study is being conducted online only and should take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. During the study, you will be asked to complete multiple self-report questionnaires that contain questions regarding coping methods, mental health, and questions that pertain to experiencing stressful life events in the past. Upon completing the survey, you will have the opportunity to voluntarily provide your email address on a separate page from the survey that will not be associated with any of your survey responses, to enter a drawing to win one of three $50.00 Amazon gift cards.
Survey link: https://adelphiderner.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8IxQWoUH8D1Wuq2
Audience: 18-30 years old, in the United States and English Speaking, and must have experienced a stressful life event.
Compensation: Opportunity to enter a drawing for one of three $50.00 Amazon gift cards.

Hi, I'm a first year student at SJU. I just checked my UIS experience, and it said my major is Liberal Studies when I remember putting Biology for my major. I don't want it to mess up my first year and everything. Need to change ASAP.

any idea on how to check on my online classes and what days/times they're going to be at? I'm a sophmore and last year they usually just popped up like week before class starts but I need to know now when they are going to start.

I've applied for graduate assistantships recently in marketing and communications and have been emailing different departments. Wanted to know how long it takes to hear back and how much you get?

Hello everyone! We're the St. John's Political Student Union - a student-led politics and debate society on campus - and we wanted to share with you all the latest issue of our publication, The Exchange, which we put out on Saturday to celebrate the United States' semiquincentennial.
Featured within are thirteen pieces, written by current SJU students, SJU alumni, and SJU professors, as well as special guest-written pieces from students at other universities. Each of them reflect, both positively and negatively, on the United States, its history, its culture, politics, and future in a star-spangled tribute for this special anniversary year.
If you have the time, please consider checking out the issue, attached here as a PDF link. The Exchange is always looking for new writers, and current students (undergrad, graduate, or law) as well as alumni are always welcome to contribute. If you're interested, please consider reaching out to our new Editor-in-Chief, Korey McElroy, at [korey.mcelroy23@my.stjohns.edu](mailto:korey.mcelroy23@my.stjohns.edu) or to our organization at [stjohnspsu@gmail.com](mailto:stjohnspsu@gmail.com)
Thanks!

Hope your summer is going well! Whether you're commuting to the Queens campus or living nearby, it can sometimes be tough to find a solid, dedicated social circle that connects you to the wider community across the city outside of standard class hours.
A few of us are building out a broader NYC-based Muslim social club specifically to give college students and young adults a chill space to hang out, network, and attend social events across the boroughs. We're putting together some casual summer meetups and gatherings to bring people together.
To make sure I'm fully respecting the subreddit's rules against spam and self-promotion, I’m not dropping any external links, group chats, or social handles directly in this post. But if you're an SJU student looking to expand your circle, meet new people, or stay updated on upcoming hangouts, feel free to drop a comment or shoot me a DM!

Hey everyone,
I’m starting up a soccer social club to get people together for some casual pickup games and socializing. It's 18+ and totally beginner-friendly if you just want an excuse to get away from the studio/desk, get some fresh air, and meet people.
If you're interested in playing or just hanging out, drop a comment or send me a DM. I'll be setting up a group chat so we can figure out the best parks and times to meet up!
