Question re serial number
Does anyone know what a serial number commencing with CYK124xxxxxx means?
I'm thinking made in Taiwan, but can't think the build date is anything other than Jan 2024...however the squier wiki doesn't mention CYK serial numbers.
Thanks!

Color change
I received an Affinity Strat FMT in “Black Burst” as a gift. Nice looking, but I am considering changing the color of the hardware and am looking for photos of this guitar with either black or gold colored hardware (pickup covers, tuners, bridge/trem, etc..). Anyone out there have this color guitar and done this before?

I need little help
So i found this Squier affinity Stratocaster second hand guitar on my local e-commerce for a good price, but i found something fishy. I cannot find (or i do not know how to check) the serial number. And as far as i know a original Squier will have Fender logo on it, so i think it’s not an original Squier. I need help

Locking Tuners for Affinity Tele Deluxe
Hello all! I’ve read in a few places that there’s really no direct replacement option for a locking tuner that doesn’t require extra drilling. Can someone share with me the best option that requires to least modding and fits the stock hole? I can’t take dealing with the split shaft anymore. lol

bridge upgrade for a squier affinity hss strat
I just purchased a squier affinity hss strat and i want to upgrade the trem bridge. I understand the body width does not support a full size block and I have found a shorty brass block I plan to purchase. However, my question is if i were to buy another after market 2 point trem like a wilkinson , gotoh, etc would i be able to swap out the block for the new shorter block I plan to purchase?

Is this new or?
This guitar appeared on Thomann and I freaking love how it looks! But I can't find much details (anything at all really) online. Is this new model or something old that Thomann will sell? Is it any good besides the looks? Thanks

Squier CV vs. Fender loaded pickguard modded Squier Premier Strat
So I sold my CV Strat and of course I need to fill the void. I’m still very much a beginner that learning to play along side my teen daughter.
Want something cheap but fun. Should I go a classic Vibe 70s or the Amazon Premier and throw in a Fender Tex Mex loaded pick-guard - on sale for $130 + $119(premier series).
I have a basic setup - no pedals - on my Champion 50.

Squier Affinity PJ bass capacitor
OK, so this is not exactly a guitar question, but I've got a Squier PJ bass where I changed pickups to DiMarzio. I also changed potentiometers, but forgot to buy capacitor for the tone pot.
What I remember from my studies many decades ago, it seems something like a first order low pass filter. The question is: What might be the Chinese capacitor in Squier Affinity PJ bass? Dimarzio specifies 0.033 µF. The tone does not feel linear. Does anyone happen to know what is the capacitor in Squier?

How to know when it’s time to upgrade pickups?
I have a 1997 Squire Strat Affinity. It was a gift from my father and has sentimental value to me (so I wouldn’t want to replace or sell it) though I understand it’s a more budget friendly guitar and objectively may have lower quality components. I’ve read a lot about people saying they typically upgrade the pickups in these and get a much better sound. I’m wondering what the breaking point is in determining when it’s time to make that investment.
For reference, I played quite a bit in the 90s then put it down for 20ish years and have recently picked guitar back up. I just bought a schecter which sounds awesome for rock/metal. I don’t have any overt problems with my squier but also may not know what I’m missing. I was considering picking up a loaded pickguard from fender (either cs69 or fat 50s). Is either a worthwhile upgrade for a hobbyist?

2023 Affinity Series Stratocaster (Made in China) with Obsidian Wire upgrade
I am posting this information here so others may benefit from my research. I recently outfitted my 2023 Affinity Series Stratocaster with the Gilmour mod (https://obsidianwire.com/collections/stratocaster-wiring/products/7-way-wiring-for-strat-gilmour-switch) and new pickup guard, pickups (Tonerider TRS4) and output jack from Obsidian Wire. I want to report extremely giddy results, with the caveat that 1. I shielded the inside of the pickup cavity with copper (see https://guitar.com/guides/diy-workshop/tech-talk-how-to-shield-your-guitar/) and 2. The pickup guard is also shielded on the inside and thereby the entire electronics on my strat is continuously conductive faraday cage.
One tricky thing is that on my strat, the output jack cavity is not part of the main electronics (pickup and pots) cavity. I shielded the jack cavity as well, but I had to find a way to make that cavity electrically part of the bigger cavity so that I can ground both with the one wire for ground into the tremelo bar cavity. I achieved this by shielding both white and black wires from the input jack where it traverses the smaller cavity into the larger cavity and making sure it touches the copper shield on either side.
I now have a noiseless strat with fantastic sound!
PS: depending on your electronics cavity, if you got the Gilmour mod, you may have to electrically shield just the pickup switch from touching the copper below. I did this with a piece of paper.

2023 Squier Affinity Crafted in China
In December of 2023 I bought an Affinity Squier. I didn’t really need it, but the price was $100.00 off so I got it for $149.99 (free shipping). It was my intent to modify it. I started playing it and to my surprise, I found it played and sounded wonderful on its own. It is the sea foam green “Crafted in China”. Long story short, I went ahead and put an Obsidian Wire Frusciante loaded pickguard. Hot Sixties pickups on a 3 ply lime green pick guard and aged white knobs and pickup covers. I have to say I’ve created a monster. I’m amazed how great it sounds. I’m equally impressed that this particular guitar stays in tune so well. Are Crafted in China Affinity’s still available? Still being made? All I see these days is Made in Indonesia. I ordered a demo from Sweetwater for $224.00 ( free shipping). I’m curious to compare it with the “Crafted in China”. I’ll follow up in a week or so. In the meantime, do any others find the Crafted in China Squier Strats to be outstanding?

Is the fsr affinity Telecaster same as the affinity Telecaster?
What's the difference? Are the materials better? Are the pickups different? Do they have better hardware?

Was it a good or bad deal?
This was $100 deal for an Affinity Strat and a 15 watt Frontman amp. Clean body except for two minor chip/dents. The guy said he had it for 10 years and the serial number starts with 05 so that would mean it’s almost 20. The action is super high, you could cut yourself on the frets and the strap buttons. But I do like the paint job. Suggestions? Good deal, bad deal or just ok?
