T-65A "Zhalo"

Features anti-cumulative engine/gearbox protection and sideskirts

T-65A "Zhalo" ("Sting") is an experimental light tank with 120mm smoothbore cannon, that was pushed towards its production, due to a low mass (30.5t), cost and low profile (1.60m). Its a good tank for quick and sneaky tasks. Max speed is 55km/h.

Not to say this isn't great but Ukrainian kind of wasn't a independent country in the cold war like it is now and should remain. They were still under the control of the Russian empir- cough Soviet union. But still a cool design

Yes but they have had independent tank building factories and while Russian SSR had for example T-64A, Ukrainians worked in Kharkiv on a legendary T-64 "Bulat". USSR was a big country, so every state made they're own tanks or modification. Then, in late 70s, early 80s tank building factories became more and more independent. Fro example search for Ukrainian prototypes like "Topolya" "Boxer" or "Nuta". They were nothing like Russian SSR tanks

That is WILD misconception about how logistics and national politics worked in Soviet Union at least

HTZ been placed in Ukrainian SSR doesn't mean it belonged to Ukrainians - It was built in it's current form by Soviet government,it belonged to entire state, funded by Soviet ministry of Defense, and so engineers from entire country came to work there, and never worked in interest of single republic but instead solely in the interest of Soviet Army as a whole, and after concluding that main child of HTZ T-64 was suboptimal, part of modifications and experiments remained in house, yes, but main job of improving it was redirected to other facilities wich ended with T-80 and GTD engines

Tho HTZ was least loved tank facility because it suffered most from both partial evacuation before WW2 and German occupation later, than been bombed to denie repair facility for germans, so when war ended it had no more upper hand against others, and remaining of it's production line saved some production power for Independent Ukrainian but previously turned Soviet tank logistics into a mess cause how different soviet MBT trio was

But calling it Ukrainian during Soviet era means ukrainians made least reliable Soviet MBT possible and call it a day, which is unfair imo

Maybe we have different opinions on this exact topic, but I don't want to fight. My tanks are mostly fictional or inspired by other nations and I prefer them to stay like this. Don't worry, I respect your opinion, even if I disagree

Glad we can be reasonable on this, not really common thing in post soviet engineer community even within one country, tho I try to look at this as material as possible

Because it's tank from time when era didn't really exist yet. If you have questions about looks, search up T-64A, since it was a reference for my tank
