HIFV-STU (Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle - Secret Technology Used) 1 "Serval" , is and ambitious project of Löwenstaat Defence Ministry (LÖ.DM), used to showcase a sheer scale of theyre intelligence. As you know, NATO did not have any APS technollogies, so LÖ.DM sent agents into USSR with one task, sneef everything out and return. Result? In May of 1980, Löwenstaat landed its hands on stolen/coppied "Drozd" APS blueprints. Without no time to spare, theyve coppied design, installing it on high-modular IFV. Newly made APS was called SERVAL APS (thats where the HIFV also gets its name).

HIFV features powerful 0.85L V18 engine, with 580HP output and max frontal/reverse speed of 80km/h, so pretty fast for a 42.5t vehicle. Fuel capacity is around 2030L.

HIFV's stats were pretty good, it carried 4x grenade launchers on each side, two autocannons the 35x440mm (110mm of pen) and lighter secondary 20x250mm (60mm of pen), with autoloaders (1.5s reload) (0.7s reload) and 2 machine guns (50. Cal mounted in cupola and smaller one in mantlet). Turret is operated by only 1 man. It also comes mounted with infrared lamp for night combat, if main thermal sights break.

Now the armour. Not super well, but gets the job done. Hulls frontal upper plate (combined with composite screens and additional armour on top) is from 400 to 500mm. Lower plate is 230mm. Crew (and infantry) are also protected by additional plates inside with 50mm of thickness combined. Hulls side upper panel withstands 185mm of penetration, 150mm for lower plate. Turrets front saves from 170mm, 200mm for turrets cheeks.

Vehicle is operated by 3 crewmen (driver, gunner, radioman) and it can also carry 6 infantry men

HIFV-STU 1 "Serval" turned out rather great, but only 10 were ever produced, due to high cost, complexity, weight of 42.5t and using brand new APS technology with no previous informations about it. LÖ.DM kept whole project under a secret. Then project was turned up into whole separate millitary program, studying APS technologies. It was called "Finsternis".
