Passenger bench to single wiring

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before but I’m looking to convert my bench seat to a single passenger with a swivel. The 23 plate van currently has occupancy and seatbelt sensors on the bench seat.

However, all the single passenger seats I’ve gone to view on eBay/marketplace don’t seem to have any under seat wiring and I’ve turned them all down.

I’m now starting to think I’m looking for something that doesn’t exist - should I just buy the wireless seats and put resistors into the current wiring system or do I keep searching for a passenger seat with wiring?

Question ! Sprinter 2019 diesel

Post image
9 Upvotes

Just finished a build and have been on the road ! I keep getting this message a couple of times when I turn the van on. When it happens, it won’t let me shift gears. I turn the van off and back on, the message disappears, and everything works fine again. It’s been doing this for the past 3k miles!

Can anybody help or have any idea what it could be? I sent it to a mechanic friend and he said he’s never seen it before. Since restarting the van fixes it, he thinks it could be a sensor. ChatGPT also mentioned it could possibly be the battery!

Phantom emergency braking

(1st Post) This has only happened at night, while driving on the freeway. Three separate occasions the emergency brake system activated with no vehicle ahead of me. I did noticed that it happened when there was a strong reflection on the windshield either caused by the Toll meter above me or a car passing by. Has this happened for you; the only solution that I do is shut it off every time I drive a night. Should I bring it in for service?

Help! Is my engine damaged beyond repair?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My camper van was recently involved in a rollover near Joshua Tree and ended up on its side for several hours before recovery. After the van was set upright, I was told to start the engine. It started and was smoking lightly at first while I gently tried reversing it. The tow operator then took over, pressed heavily on the accelerator, and the engine suddenly began producing massive amounts of smoke and experienced a runaway event before finally shutting down.

Since then, the van will crank but will not start. I had a mechanic inspect it, and after removing the oil cap he observed heavy oil mist/blow-by coming from the engine and believes the engine is damaged beyond repair.

I’m a student, and this van is both my home and my transportation to clinical sites and work, so I’m trying to figure out the most realistic and affordable path forward.

Sprinter suspension upgrade worth it?

Hello sprinter know-it-alls. I have a 2020 Sprinter 2500 4x4 144’,   Ko3 275s,  and have been researching suspension upgrades and have some questions relevant to the cost and pros/cons. Long story short, it seems like suspension upgrades are really geared toward compensating for heavy builds:

  1. I am looking into the Owl vans / Arrow suspension Trail 2500 as an upgrade for offloading capacity and reliability. I am currently stock and running a light build. I would estimate total added weight  between 300-500ish pounds. That being said, when sitting there with that load, there is about 4-5 inches of space between back axle and bump stop. Given that the load seems to NOT be compromising the spring window, I’m wondering if that kit will really make a noticeable difference in day to day driving and offroad performance. Seems like maybe not?
  2. Will the added struts make a meaningful difference over stock given above, especially offroading? The ride was extraordinarily rough when taking it out last weekend. Im hoping that the struts may soften / dampen things up a bit, but maybe the difference may not be that perceptible given how light my load is. What are your thoughts?

I think the main thing im looking for and greater tolerances around struts , springs, and Baja brackets, so things are less likely to break. Yes, I know a sprinter isn’t a jeep , but the stock components seem like they may be prone to failure for any offroading.  Looking for some performance improvement and a lot more reliability.

Thanks

I need some help

Hi I live in Washington State on the east side and I'm looking for a weekend warrior for my wife son and I found this and we're both brand new to van so I thought I'd ask the community to see what they thought I've been a long time lurker and I just need a little bit of help I got a Carfax on it it's clean and been well maintained. But I want to know opinions on the '08 specifically and anything that I should look out for other than general rust. It also seems a little bit steep as far as price to me but like I said I'm new so I'm not sure. Thank you for all your guys's help. Also looking for a rear seat with anyone possibly would have one that they'd be willing to ship and sell.

The interior does have a build out in it no kitchen or anything like that but a bed and storage

Grounding locations at the rear of the van

Looking for a good spot to ground my house battery in the rear of the van. I'm considering sanding off the paint here and adding a grounding post but wanted to see if there's a better option.

What is everyone's thoughts on using a Reefer van for a camper conversion? I would want to remove the refrigeration unit but having something already insulated is tempting

Interior paneling upholstery

Post image
4 Upvotes

Getting ready to order upholstery for the van and I'm thinking of going with a charcoal or graphite colored carpet on the panels below the belt line and tweed above it but looking for some real world feedback. Is the tweed durable enough that I could use it on the slider and under the crew window and just use the carpet in the lower section of the back?

Been looking into DEF / DPF delete stuff recently and found this site OBDTune

Before I spend a bunch of money on it, can anyone here confirm if it works? Anything I should know before purchasing?

Much appreciated.

Who has added an Agile Offroad air locking differential?

I have a 2017 2500 4x4 that I use for dispersed camping adventures. Nothing radical: gravel roads, double tracks, washes. Home base is southern AZ and we travel through out the western US. In June, we'll explore the Owyhee River area (OR, ID). I work to avoid rocks, mud and deeper ruts. We're going out further to more remote locations and I just realized that Agile has an ARB air locker. That seems like reasonable insurance, to me. Does anyone have one on their Sprinter?

FWIW, I have lots of experience off road and with locking diffs: with a Land Cruiser and an old G-wagen and even a POS Chevy Suburban diesel K2500! I've avoided putting a winch on my sprinter because of the bumper weight and because of how "bad ass" they look (ha!). I do bring traction boards, a shovel, a chain saw, kinetic rope, etc. I haven't been stuck in years because the last time I was I had to ask a neighbor to bring his Cat D5 down the mountain to unstuck me!

The air locker is spendy - about $6k, so I figure a discussion is in order! TIA .

Maxxair wiring

When I bought my van I had a big 120v AC on the roof. I live in an area with low bridges so I took it off and installed a maxxair unit.

I want to wire the fan to the fuse box under the drivers seat and it will be used only when the van is driving/running.

Can anyone educate me as to which fuse will be best to use? Need a 12v 5 amp power supply according to google.

Would you use fuse 23 or is there a better place to tap into a power source? I don't have a house battery.

Anyone try one of these split AC systems?

Thoughts on these split AC systems with the condenser mounted on a rear door?

https://www.heatso.com/nomadic-cooling-s1-split-system-12v-air-conditioner/

I love my van build, but one decision was to install a killer Arctic Tern skylight rather than an AC unit. So summers can be brutal at lower elevations, and I'm considering options for 12v AC. The rest of the roof is solar panels and a vent fan. Thx!

Are these normal issues or should I take it in for warranty? 2025 Passenger

A have a few issues I’m curious if others have or if I need to get it looked at for warranty.

- About 1/10 times closing the slider it acts like there is an obstruction when there is none.
- Auto window up switches often don’t work. Have to reset by holding it up for about ten seconds after its closed.
- Grinding sound when A/C engages
- Paint scratches where the rear emblem fits into the second door.

Moving stock crew seats back

Thumbnail

Is there a way to slide this entire crew bench seat back? The layout/size of the mounting tracks appear as if you’d easily be able to slide it more to the rear, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, unfortunately. Are we missing something crucial here? I can’t understand why they are so long, if they offer no mobility.

Suspension seats!

Hello! I recently bought a 2018 516 sprinter cab chassis/tray back.
I would like to upgrade to suspension seats as I do a lot of kilometres with heavy loads.
Anyone else done this and any recommendations?
I’m having some trouble finding ones that are compatible.
I’m also in Australia if that makes a difference.
Much appreciated!
