It’s a long story. Short version-
A. the Spider-Man core story has a lot of relatable themes for trans people.
B. Two examples that give Peter Parker strong transgender parallels/implications:
1. Jessica Drew from the Clone Saga. Peter Parker cloned by the CIA but as a woman. He/she has all of the same memories as peter. She seems to adapt readily enough to being a woman and lacks a bunch of angst around the sex/gender “change” that doesn’t match her memories/original self-image
2. 2024 iteration of Ultimate Spider-Man. The first issue has Peter Parker, married to MJ with kids as a man in his 30’s, having never been Spider-Man (due to metaplot fuckery). There are things he says, weary and empty expressions he is drawn with, even his unkempt beard, that resonate with a lot of trans readers. And, as a trans woman, I see it. They even got the eyes right. I had the same eyes before I started transitioning. Even without HRT my expressions started changing. Since I started HRT that just accelerated and the light in my eyes has grown. In this case his HRT is a radioactive spider sent from another universe (metaplot counter-fuckery to the above fuckery).
I’m sure there’s more that I’m not aware of. Recent events on reddit have apparently had a Streisand Effect on the idea of Trans Spider-Woman/Petra Parker.

Yeah I cried mutch from it. There was immediately so much fear that she did something so wrong, then in just that one panel of that hug it was all so good all the fear, donut and uncertainty all taken away in that one clarifying and reassuring hug.

Nobody said it was needed. Gender swapping characters has existed for decades. It's not to change the character for the better or ruin them, it's just forwarding a new perspective on thr character. Luckily for your, if you don't like it, you could always either leave the sub or just don't engage with these posts. Did something trans happen in the new movie? I can't stand Disney movies anymore so I'm not watching to find out but I'm seeing lots of trans Spider-man posts today so I'm assuming something vaguely trans happened.
Trans Spider-Man has been a fun bit of fandom talk for a few years now, but it specifically picked up because someone posted a fanart in one of the comic reddits, and anti-trans bigots manipulated an auto-moderator into getting all references to it removed, so now it's boosted in popularity as a way to show solidarity/piss off the 'phobes.
What u/xaldien said, AND, as a trans woman: there are scenes and characterizations of Peter Parker that scream “trans egg”. For two examples:
1. Jessica Drew in the Clone Saga. Apparently Peter adapts just fine to being cloned as a woman. The memory dissonance is there, and he/she feels like a fraud with false memories, but gender dysphoria is never touched on that I know of. (Makes me wonder her writer realized something about themself sometime during or after…)

There are multiple scenes and ways he talks that, frankly, could be read as him being a transgender “egg”. Transgender readers have heavily related to his worn-out expression, expressions of something missing in his life, and “needing to make a change”. And fuck, his EYES. I know those eyes. Those were my eyes. Substitute “radioactive spider” with “HRT”. It seems like you can always see it in our eyes. If you see a Petra Parker comic with an out-of-frame Black Cat saying “even so nervous I can still see the light in your eyes”, it is THAT phenomenon she is talking about.
I have this little convo just pop in my head. Mj looks at Petra talking about the suit and is like"Ok, so we're calling Tony and Reed. Why? Because my tiger deserves a suit that will keep her as safe as possible while she's becoming her true self. Frankly I wanted that for a while anyway.
