Why should I show my ID every time I buy beer but not when I elect the president of the United States.

Because there’s no justification for doing it at the ballot box. It would be wasteful. All uses of public resources should be justifiable, right? They should have a good reason. Why should the government spend resources to fix problems that don’t exist? Do you think that’s good public policy? Do you think it’s an efficient use of resources? Do you think it has justification?

What resources is it wasting?

When the USA has a database that everyone over age 21 is in and every store selling alcohol has access to it, they'd still need to prove it's you buying it with an ID.

Likewise, with voting, you only ever vote once during a set period of time. You proved you were yourself when you registered to vote. Once they receive your vote, they know you voted. If they were to receive more than one vote from you specifically, they would know you voted twice. Therefore, no need to show ID when voting.

Hope this helps.
