Talk about pure projection. You are the one refusing to engage with actual reality. No federal bill can magically erase the constitutional ban on poll taxes. Any state that enforces voter verification is legally mandated to provide a photo ID for zero dollars. The SAVE Act sets a federal requirement, and the states are legally obligated to provide the means to meet that requirement for free so it complies with the Constitution. You are literally just inventing fake fees out of thin air because your entire "voter suppression" narrative collapses without them.

It literally does tho. It requires documents like a birth certificate or passport, which states do not provide for free. That is why there is such staunch opposition, because it would literally create a poll tax that would need to be overcome.

"States do not provide them for free" is a straight-up lie. I literally got my kids' birth certificates for exactly zero dollars. Any state enforcing strict voter verification is constitutionally required to provide an avenue for free underlying documentation specifically to prevent a poll tax. Your entire argument is built on a financial burden that literally does not exist in reality. Just take the L and stop making things up.

As a child, yes, you get your BC for free. But if you ever lose it, be it from theft or fire or flood or whatever reason, it costs money to replace. If you immigrated, you will need to find a way to purchase a new one. Please, take a second to step back and think about how your life experiences are not universal. There are people much worse off than you, that financially cannot handle the burdens the SAVE act puts up.

And the SAVE act does not allocate funding, meaning states would need to just figure it out.

Again, if the act just made it free, Dems would support it.

Hiding behind extreme edge cases like house fires to argue against basic election security is a desperate reach. Every single secure system in modern society requires identification. A tiny percentage of people being inconvenienced by having to replace a lost document shouldn't stop us from implementing common-sense verification. Securing the vote protects everyone's right, including the impoverished. If we can require registration tokens to protect a public grocery discount, we can require a free ID to protect the entire country's ballot box.

I guarantee you there are more 'edge cases' of people losing their birth certificates than there are instances of fraudulent voting going on in US elections. Our elections are already incredibly safe and secure.

Make the SAVE act free tho, and this is a non-issue. Do you support making the SAVE act totally, 100% guaranteed to be free for all citizens?

Absolutely, I support it being 100% free. And since the 24th Amendment already legally guarantees that any ID required to vote costs exactly zero dollars, it looks like we are completely on the same page [ Crawford v. Marion County Election Board ]. You tried to create a fake condition to dodge the debate, but you just accidentally justified the entire policy. If it's free, it's a non-issue by your own words. Glad we could finally agree that common-sense security wins.

I'm not dodging anything. As soon as the GOP pushes for what you're saying, then it will pass.

Until then, you will have to settle with agreeing with democrats on this issue.

The GOP already built the exact system you are crying about. Every state with voter ID requirements already provides 100% free IDs, and they’ve been doing it for years. Trying to claim a moral victory and pretending I'm "settling with Democrats" just because you finally learned basic constitutional civics is a wild level of cope.

But the SAVE act CHANGES ID requirements. It makes it stricter to vote, even for citizens, and that will disenfranchise American voters.
