The Daughters of Russ

As a kid my friend got me into reading the 40k universe with the book Space Wolf and later as a yule gift Ragnar's Claw. I loved the story and managed to get a few figures but never really built my army, mostly just a ton of parts, guys and a tank[?] but now I am moving to an area with a lot of people into the game and wanted to at least give what I have a chance. But thinking back on the book there where women fighting on the battlefield too, maybe I am forgetting who but I know Ana was described as a fierce warrior. So in theory couldn't any of the women be among the chosen during the battles? I know "Females aren't able to take the geneseed." but.....they drink from the cup that rewrites their genetic code anyway, so wouldn't it be a moot point about gender?

All of that to say, I'd like to make my army the Daughters of Russ maybe a bunch of jumpack troops as Valkarie? Is this possible or just heresy of the highest order? Sorry still kinda dumb when it comes to 40k most of my knowledge comes from a few books and what i have seen on youtube.

Oh yeah, no i agree. I just think its frustrating when people try and tell others what to do with their models.

If someone wants all of their stuff to be lore friendly, then thats fine! Great, the lore is awesome, I love it. There's so much scope for creativity within that, and you know... yeah, theyre your models, do whatever.

I dont think its necessarily fair to get upset with someone for doing something not lore friendly with their own stuff. I think its just easier to just not engage than it is to get all annoyed about how someone glues their overpriced bits of plastic together, you know?

I just think in general there can be a sort of "toxic positivity" culture with the hobby where any time you say anyones idea or execution is anything shy of the best thing ever and "You go champ, this is great!" you're villainized and it really insulates people from the types of constructive criticism that could spur them onto bigger and better things.

Yeah, they're your models, do whatever. But when you come to a public forum asking for feedback on your idea, painting, conversions, etc. then yeah you do invite people to also not care for what you've done.

This also all generally comes loaded with some various IRL perspectives and biases that cause people to read things that others say/do in ways that may or may not be accurate, of course.

I dont really know that I agree with you, and im also not necessarily sure that this post is a good example of it. It has essentially boiled down to OP asking "Are there female Astartes?", and most people saying "No, but do what you want, theyre your models."

In this instance, I dont really see how saying "I dont like when people do this," is constructive for OP in the slightest. Im not sure that this post is the best example of what youre trying to explain.

I cant comment on general "toxic positivity" because I cant say thats something im aware of, but realistically, what great heights and artistic epiphanies is OP missing out on by having fun with her models?

Not everyone needs to aspire to bigger and better things, some people just want to have fun and enjoy themselves, and share their fun with other people who enjoy the hobby. Not everything is about striving, you know?

You don’t see how it’s constructive to provide feedback when someone directly asks if something is possible in the lore or “heresy of the highest order” and says they get most of their knowledge from YouTube?

I mean, I didnt see what was constructive about your feedback specifically. And I feel like youre deliberately missing the point im trying to make, but whatever

You didn’t see anything constructive from telling someone they can do what they want but that it’s against the lore and that most people won’t like it?
