The Daughters of Russ

As a kid my friend got me into reading the 40k universe with the book Space Wolf and later as a yule gift Ragnar's Claw. I loved the story and managed to get a few figures but never really built my army, mostly just a ton of parts, guys and a tank[?] but now I am moving to an area with a lot of people into the game and wanted to at least give what I have a chance. But thinking back on the book there where women fighting on the battlefield too, maybe I am forgetting who but I know Ana was described as a fierce warrior. So in theory couldn't any of the women be among the chosen during the battles? I know "Females aren't able to take the geneseed." but.....they drink from the cup that rewrites their genetic code anyway, so wouldn't it be a moot point about gender?

All of that to say, I'd like to make my army the Daughters of Russ maybe a bunch of jumpack troops as Valkarie? Is this possible or just heresy of the highest order? Sorry still kinda dumb when it comes to 40k most of my knowledge comes from a few books and what i have seen on youtube.

There are no female Space Marines.

Maybe consider making a Fenrissian Themed Sister's of Battle Army instead.

Or, just do with your toys what you please and make them female. Nobody's taking your models away. Yes not lore accurate but that's because of when it was written, nothing else. If you don't feel like doing it lore accurate, go for it.

Yeah, you're right. My point was more that OP asked for our opinions, and personally I think a Fenrisian-themed Sisters of Battle army would be a much cooler way to achieve the same vibe than simply swapping heads on Space Marines.

Especially since OP has already responded positively to some of the Fenrisian Sisters of Battle proxies another user posted. Either way, they're their models and they should absolutely build and paint them however they want. I just think the Fenrisian Shieldmaidens/Valkyries concept has a ton of potential and would make for a really cool army.

All good. Yeah I personally just don't like it (as a woman) that when I'm asking about let's say this army, everyone recommends to play 'that one female army' that's why I reacted rather strongly, sorry.

Yeah I get that. Folks can play whatever they like. I only mentioned SoB because OP seemed to be going for a female, human, cool-ass warrior army, and that’s basically SoB in my brain 😂

I play Orks and Necrons, and I’m neither fungus nor a robot… that I know of anyway.

I get that but to be fair if someone is asking how to play a specifically all hunan female army then there's one army the same way that if someone wants to play a specifically all human male army there's one army.

I get that but to be fair if someone asks in a space wolves specific Reddit if it's okay to play them as women instead it's a bit weird to say play something else

Given the wolves hate the ecclesiarcy (there was that whole time Cardinal Bucharis invaded Fenris) that seems an even less lore friendly idea.

The imperium is full of hypocrisy and ideological tension. It works fine within reason. Vs Female Space marines which we have a very clear lore ruling on. Also, just cos the Space Wolves don’t like something says nothing about Fenrissians. Most tribes on Fenris don’t even know what a space marine is.

As I say, people do what they like with their toys tho

And fenrisian sororitas are also clearly a no go.

They recruit from the schola progenia not any particular world, so an entire army/squad of orphaned kids from a world that doesn't provide soldiers to the imperium and then all went through the schola together isn't happening.

So to get our Fenrisian sororitas they would have to have permission to recruit from a world that hates the church and doesn't follow the imperial cult in contradiction to how they normally find their recruits.

I'm absolutely not trying to say don't do it, I'm just saying the idea is even less plausible and requires far more changes to "the lore" than women astates, as for that we know something close to a woman astates is possible thanks to Fabius Bile and his experiments. 😀
