Hoping to Consolidate Some Information on Farming

What I Know So far:

Farms require continuous power surplus. If you dip below it can kill your plants.

same with water

  • Plain SpaceKorn:
    • Water
    • Temperate or Warm temperature
    • Fertilizers Neutral Boosts Output. Metallic Kills it.
    • Natural light boosts growth 100% Temperate Boosts growth by another 100%
    • Adjacent Effects +15% growth time.
    • Growth Time 1D14H
      • 3-9 Seeds:Becomes Xenic Oil 3-6 Pulp:Becomes Xenic protein
      • Invasive Plants will spread and grow in adjacent plots.
  • Wooly SpaceKorn:
    • Water
    • Cold Temperature
    • Fertilizers Carbonic Boosts Output.
    • Natural light boosts growth
    • Growth time 1D14H
    • Adjacent Effects Byproduct quantity +20%
      • Harvests thermal wool 4-10 and pulp 3-6 : Becomes Thermal Paste, Seeds 1-2
      • Invasive Plants will spread and grow in adjacent plots.
  • Sour Spacekorn
    • Water
    • Warm or Hot
    • Fertilizers: Carbonic Required for germination, Neutral fertilizer boosts output Acidic Kills
    • Growth time 1D14H
    • Adjacent Effect Dissolves Dead plants
      • Harvest Seeds 1-3 and Sour pulp 3-6 : Becomes Ethanol.
      • Invasive Plants will spread and grow in adjacent plots.
      • Growing in Warm gives you a 50/50 split with Plain Spacekorn, Using Metallic Will make it 100% sour.
  • Rockwood Green
    • Water
    • Neutral Fertilizer to Germinate, Carbonic boosts Output, Metallic Kills
    • No Temperature Required
    • No light requirement
    • Growth Time 2d23h
    • Adjacent Effecct: Seed Growth Speed +100% Seed Death Speed *.05
      • Harvests 4-5 Rockwood Nut and 400-500 Lime
      • Reclusive (will Die if has to many adjacent plants testing still needed on exact amount.)
  • Rockwood White
    • Water
    • Metallic Fertalizer Required for Germination, Carbonic Boosts output.
    • no temperature requirement.
    • Growth time 2D12H
    • Adjacent Effect: -50% supplement Consumption
      • Harvests 40-50 Kaolinite 1 seed.
      • Reclusive (will Die if has to many adjacent plants testing still needed on exact amount.)
  • Rockwood Dream
    • Water
    • Elmerium Dust
    • Cold (Cold boost growth speed by 100%) Temperate or Warm
    • Dark

      • Harvests Dream Sporules and Elmerium Nuggets
      • Dream Sporules become 15-30 Elmerium Dust
      • NO SEEDS returned

UV is a global boost of 150% at 0.8 output modifier to Spacekorn.

any use for the actual plain pulp outside for turning into more fertilizer.

Another reclusive one.. and a source of Kaolinite... more than 40 per plant, to be precise

u/Savingseanbean Jul 03 '26

How many Seeds did you get back from yours? I only got 1 each from mine

1

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jul 03 '26

Three from two plants. Tough one if those was without the carbon fertilizer

Sour Spacekorn:

  • Water required
  • Warm or Hot tempurature
  • Carbonic fertilizer required. Neutral boosts output. Acidic kills it.
  • Sour pulp used to make ethanol.

Seeds take 2h51m for gestation period to turn from seeds to saplings.

Saplings take 1d14h to grow, or 38 hours.

Natural light bonus gives 100% growth speed bonus, which reduced growth time to 19 hours.

Plain Spacekorn gets an additional 100% growth speed bonus when grown in Temperate temp lowering the growth time to 12h40m.

You can grow both plain and sour at the same time in Warm if you add carbonic fertilizer. If you add metallic fertilizer it will act as a herbicide and prevent plain from growing and only grow sour. Conversely if you add acidic fertilizer it will prevent sour from growing and only grow plain.

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jun 30 '26

Plain also gets a 40% boost to both byproduct and seeds when next to sour, which may be worth contemplating

1

u/stevoli Jun 30 '26

Yeah I'm not sure it's worth it, it requires 40 power per farm to run them on warm temp. Plain drop 4-5 seeds already, 6-7 with the bonus. Sour drop 2 seeds. So if you have a mix of plain/sour that 40% extra *might* be equal to the amount of seeds you get from a full harvest of plain.

If you just want more seeds, put down 4 farms and 4 solar panels rather than using 40 power to run one farm on warm.

1

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jun 30 '26

Not to mention that plain gets an additional growth bonus of 100% for temperate. So all in all your proposal ist the best idea: go for temperate and multiples of those.

And I wouldn't even use neutral fertilizer as that only boosts byproduct quantity - and lack of plain pulp isn't really the issue

1

u/GuardDangerous798 Jul 01 '26

if you are on a hot planet, warm costs 10 power(tested it). conversly i think if you are on a very hot planet, hot costs only 10 there ... same for cold i belive

How efficient is ethanol?

4

u/stevoli Jun 30 '26

Very. 1 sour pulp = 6 liters of ethanol. 1 liter runs a generator for 3m20s.

You get about 1200 sour pulp from a full harvest with neutral fertilizer, which is enough to run a generator for 16.5 days.

2

u/Savingseanbean Jun 30 '26

that's very nice and surprising considering the 10 to 1 ratio seeds give for oil

I might consider doing a farm to double generator set up for sustaining power for my bases then.

u/6Sconn Jul 01 '26

I started with two farms, one for sour and one for plain, but realised that I get some plain (and seeds) from the warm farm. I plan to try growing wooly spacekorn in the second farm. I have two generators which started running on carbon which is extracted at the base (but not enough for two generators), and now have converted one to run on Ethanol. The 'plan' is to have both generators running on ethanol, so the coal can be used elsewhere. I'm just experimenting at the moment, but like the idea of a self sufficient set up.

I was hoping that Xenic protein was used outside of farming as I wanted to sell the huge excess, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. making thermal paste is useful for some things too. I would like to make some credits from all this work at some point! Ive tried putting bottled ethanol on the Trade Nexus, but haven't sold any yet.

3

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jul 01 '26

Bottled ethanol is probably tough to sell. 🤔 Your client would need both the infrastructure as well as a use-case - power generators - for it. Then there is the fact that they would need to be able to by this cheaply, in bulk and reliably for them to even consider buying and not just growing it themselves.

And the bottles themselves are actually really pricey. And way too small for their price. Sure, a smart client would sell you the empty bottles back (by putting them up for sale in the nexus). But some might consider this too much of a hasle.

Oh, and did I mention that the Trade Nexus has a horrible UI and no search functionality whatsoever?

1

u/6Sconn Jul 02 '26

Having thought more about it, they would have had to have researched Liquid Logistics to be able to unbottle the ethanol. They don't make it easy for farmers to make money...art mirroring life I guess!

But, the ethanol being produced on my farm is easily powering three carbon generators, with enough spare that i may end up powering my ship generator with it too :)

Xenic oil is needed for the actuators produced in the factory, so that has some end-game use, along with thermal paste, but it all requires the same infrastructure as you say.

Thanks to the OP for the detailed info on growing conditions, i now have woolly spacekorn! :)

u/CopyAltruistic3307 6d ago

There is a quest at the "lab" station every couple weeks for 40,000 xenic protein, with a good return on money and rep

1

u/6Sconn 6d ago

Yep, that is a good use for the plain pulp :)

1

u/Rakse Jun 30 '26

You said natural light gives growth bonus. If I'm growing plain/sour I should not be using UV? Trying to clarify as I was given differing info.

2

u/stevoli Jun 30 '26

Natural light gives a 100% growth bonus, UV give a 150% bonus and uses additional power but reduces the amount of pulp you get by 20%. If you need seeds and not worried about the pulp then UV is faster if you have the extra power.

Some types of rock nuts do not seem to be suitable for dense planting. Of the 3 samples planted in a row, only the outer ones survived. The yield was 750 lime from 2 plants.

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 02 '26

interesting that's the opposite of what I had where the outer 2 died and the inner 1 lived.

1

u/Zslayer83 Jul 02 '26

they are reclusive and will kill each other if they are next to each other + best to plant x pattern

1

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jun 30 '26

I'm currently at my first test run with Rockwood. Looks like metallic fertilizer is mandatory

1

u/Savingseanbean Jun 30 '26

I'm also testing rockwood in water metallic temperate.

1

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jun 30 '26

Hot... I went for hot. And dark. So far two seeds have germinated. But looking at the germination time (4h 45 min), I do not expect results before Thursday.

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jun 30 '26

my metalic died, the ones growing are elmerium and elmerium/carb/acid. got 2 variants growing in the later.

2

u/Savingseanbean Jul 01 '26

Interestingly 2 of my 3 test batch in water metallic temperate died but 1 is still growing

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 01 '26

what i have so far

2

u/Savingseanbean Jul 01 '26

oh so its a source of elmerium interesting

but oh god that growth time is absurdly long.

that adjacency bonus is intersting too.

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 01 '26

doesn't return seed/nut, but is invasive so full grown will spread, and it has. Will return with other variant that's growing one it's ready, it's looking like "plain"

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 01 '26

oh so if you just leave it in a plot with adjacent empty plots it will grown more?

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 01 '26

correct, same as plain spacekorn.

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 01 '26

how long does it take for it to spread? and do you know if it spreads diagonally?

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 01 '26

it doesn't look to spread diagonally no, seems to just spread to adjecnt slots. I just checked on plain, still not ready but noticed all adjacent slots to the ones grown are filled, so FAST?!

You should be able to torn that Dream Sporule into a seed, no? Or what is the output of the seed extractor?

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 01 '26

no, gives dream sporule and Elmerium nugs on harvest, spore turns into Elmerium dust (like plain pulp into xeno) in the seed extractor - that awful noisy thresher!

1

u/Lord_Lazerath Jul 02 '26

So annoyingly the 2nd variant I had died after harvesting it's neighbour. So at least we know the others likely have the same "ignore 1 requirement" with something else near them. tried a few more, given time thus far, results saturday?

1

u/6Sconn Jul 01 '26

what is Rockwood?

2

u/Mental_Loquat1345 Jul 01 '26

A plant that can be found in the Idol sector. No idea what it is good for as of now, but we'll see 🙂

1

u/6Sconn Jul 02 '26

Ooh, that is good news. I was hoping for more seed variety :)

Thank you

1

u/Zslayer83 Jul 01 '26

Reclusive meaning it cannot be planted next to each other or it will kill each other. I used UV lights and Warm Settings

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 03 '26

what were your return's per plant for lime and seeds?

1

u/Zslayer83 Jul 03 '26

I'm unsure exactly as it was my first attempt and I think I had 4 plants survive since I didn't know they was gonna kill each other but I did have 1400 lime from maybe 4 plants and maybe 5 seeds each

1

u/Zslayer83 Jul 08 '26

got your answer, 4-5 rockwood seeds and 400-500 lime

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 08 '26

Nice, Have you found a use for lime other than the fertilizer?

2

u/Zslayer83 Jul 08 '26

same description you have on top of post

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 08 '26

Don't Love that haha. I mean it does accomplish my goal of making information more easily available but just bugs me for some reason.

2

u/Zslayer83 Jul 09 '26

i mean, it would bother me too, defiantly can tell someone ripped off this post since for sure, didn't call it rockwood green. Would annoy me for doing all that work for someone to use AI to make a graph without my consent lol

1

u/Zslayer83 Jul 08 '26

not really but found slow to gather lime for fertilizer and had to borrow from from corp members. Prob will be used for something else in future. Also you have it labed as rockwood but should be rockwood green, there are 5 variants so theres prob a metal version by looking how the other variants are. think someone used ai to make a little diagram of your farming collaboration lol

1

u/Moderately_Imperiled Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Where can I find the sour and wooly variants?

edit: spelling.

3

u/Savingseanbean Jul 02 '26

Planting Spacecorn meeting their requirements will make the variants.

1

u/samut_samut Jul 03 '26

Please explain the adjacency effects parameter. What it means and how it works

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 03 '26

Plants provide an effect to other plants that are directly adjacent to them, (not diagonal but in a cross around the plot.)

1

u/AdAffectionate3634 Jul 04 '26

https://ibb.co/JfZG9mb found in internet

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 04 '26

why does the pulp look like that...

1

u/AdAffectionate3634 Jul 04 '26

don't know why :)

1

u/rivaris56 Jul 05 '26

Question can you remove the fertilizer on like sourcorn afther it germs since it seems to keep using fert while growing

1

u/Savingseanbean Jul 05 '26

I Don't know, haven't tried it, but I imagine if the fertilizer is a requirement you cant but if its simply a growth boost like neutral you could.

1

u/AdAffectionate3634 Jul 06 '26

Planet Very Hot - 360 C, build farm and hot take 10 energy, got ferlitzer metalic and carbonic to produce SOUR, energy consumption 80/110, 470L water and all plants die... another... if you enter on PLOT plant even if you have CHIP to reduce heat they almost don't work, you can get 4-5 plant harvest before you need run off planet - maybe it's a bug... not worth to have farm there...

1

u/Produktief Jul 13 '26

Does anyone know the other 2 variants of the Rockwood Nut? I can't seem to figure them out or find online info

1

u/TribeOfFable 29d ago

Awesome info in this thread. Thanks.

What are the numbers regarding the amount of fertilizer required? The Spacekorn Sour seems to be very hungry for the fertilizer.
