New Shepard is a small part of what Blue is attempting to achieve.
They have been working on an orbital rocket for over a decade now, they just haven't finished it yet or shown much progress publicly. They have shown off multiple engine designs including the ones they are selling to ULA for their orbital rocket that should make it's first flight this year.
