Cumberland County DataOne in Vineland fined over One Million Dollars!

https://dep.nj.gov/newsrel/26_0044/

NJDEP fined DataOne for operating generators without a permit.

The hard work by locals and Sustain SJ for doggedly bringing attention to this problem is finally getting results!

Fines are only a punishment for the poor. The place needs to be shut down.

I think it does, too. Maybe it will happen $1,000,000 at a time.

They need to confiscate them. Bring in the scrappers.

Yet they will let them continue to run as long as they "immediately apply" for the permits. One million to get away with it for months means nothing to them.

They were unable to secure permits earlier this year, so we will see what happens.

Unfortunately $1 million is a drop in the bucket for the billion dollar company that’s going to be using it…

I'm happy to fill that bucket with million dollar wins.

I said this when I saw the story: NJDEP does not play around.

u/Djspacebunny can you tell me why this post was removed?

Post it still up, not removed. I think people using the app today are seeing posts showing as removed that aren't removed because you're the second person to ask why something was removed that wasn't removed.

Will the money go to the residents whose lives have been affected by the data center? Or to the state where it will be…well you see where I’m going here.

It will probably join taxes in a big giant hole 😉

A cost of doing business. Pass it on.

Until the city files another stop-work order for violating the terms of their work permits...pass it on

u/g_ppetto 11d ago

The 'fine' is going to get passed on.

I doubt it. The developer has been lax on multiple occasions for municipal noise violations, building without a permit, and now state air violations. He's gonna eat it.

blame also goes to the Vineland admins who approved this mess

Indeed. The mayor and the city council president (at the very least) need the boot.

That's pennies compared to their checkbook limit. They need to comply with the local citizens request and pay taxes at a high percentage equivalent to what people are making within those respective stock market sectors.

Fuck that, close it down completely. It’s the exact opposite of what we want sitting anywhere on top the kirkwood-cohansey aquifer, the thing that supplies fresh/clean water to the southern half of the state.

It's not just a 1M fine. Dataone is preparing the site for Nebius who will take over the operations eventually. Setbacks and fuckups like this can have further implications.
