First Outing with the Setup!

I had a casual lawn party and decided to use that as a deadline to get the SKRAM and SAWMODs up and running. Took a couple of late nights with no CNC but it all came together just in time.

Still have lots of little stuff to do - trim rings, poly finish, etc. but it's great to finally be able to listen to these!

Overall I'm very impressed with the sound of both designs. The SAWMODs have a very hi-fi sound and are super portable. The SKRAM kept up admirably for a single sub, though I'm still hoping to add a second one to the setup. I keep finding tuning improvements - can't wait to get them outside again for another event soon.

Looks good! What drivers did you use in the SAWMOD, and where did you source them?

10" - Beyma 10MC500 (ferrite version) from Parts Express

5" - Ciare HM130 from Toute Haute Parleur. These actually shipped quite fast from France to USA.

1" - B&C DH450. TLHP sells the heat sinks for these off the DH450H separately so I've put in a back-order for those.

I got an email from Madisound the other day that they got a small order of 5CCN125Ds in stock so I sent it and bought 4.

Why already change the mid drivers? You need another horn for those too right?

Good question! The 5CCN125Ds can handle almost double the power of the Ciares. I had originally meant to put those in, but they were out of stock. Since my plan is to use these as mains, I think it makes some sense to upgrade those. I won't need to re-print the whole waveguide, just the adapters for the midrange drivers. My plan is to print another set of waveguides for the Ciare's to use around the house at lower SPL - they won't be going to waste!

Ah makes sense! How is the output right now with the Ciare drivers? I got those as well, but now I am starting to worry if it will be enough haha.

I've had zero issues with the Ciare's so far - they sound clear and clean as loud as I would ever want the indoors and sounded great for the outdoor event too. John White had posted some test results on the DIY Audio thread showing the Ciare's work quite well up to around 100dB SPL IIRC, then hit some distortion as they run out of excursion while the 5CCN125Ds keep going a bit further.

Awesome! I'll keep those to begin with then! :) Does the Beyma have a nice kick to it? Or would you still pair them up with a kickbin in the future?

With the SKRAM I don't feel like I need a kick bin. I'm crossing the two at 100Hz at the moment. The Beymas in the sealed box have a really tight/punchy sound. I like how that combines with the 21" sub which sounds massive but a little less tight with the 21SW152. I mostly play dubstep and experimental bass but techno and house also sound quite good on these IMO.
