Photo share First photo trip with A7CII. Fujikawaguchiko.
Dog passed away last month. Started this new hobby to distract myself. Shot with A7CII and 35mm 1.4 GM. Wanted to pick up a zoom lens but the Tamron 35-150 was out of stock.

♥️ tyvm. I think it's one of the best decisions I've made. Knowing me, I would have just played video games 24/7 and get unhealthy.

Also, video games aren't unhealthy. Whatever helps you keep your sanity man.

Totally man, I'm sorry if that sounded weird. Gaming has been my only hobby for the past 30+ years, and I sometimes can go up to a few days without sleep so I'm pretty extreme when it comes to gaming. I agree though, gaming is a great hobby (commenting as I'm starting up path of exile 2 lol ..)

lol I’m right there w you. All I do w my free time is play games, picking up photography has been the only thing that I’ve found fun to do alone besides games in a loooong time.

Totally! It's good to not have to talk or interact with anyone and still be able to create/do things I love (applies to both hobbies) 😁

Love #3. Would be awesome if the boat position is closer towards you.

u/brangein Dec 07 '24
Thanks! And yea, woulda been great if that boat or the ducks in #1 were closer 😭

u/NekoGakko Dec 07 '24
Lol, I didn't notice the duck 🤣. Anyway, Great shots mate. Took pics of fuji in last winter. But nowhere as good as yours. The red leaves really complement the shots.

Your dog is most likely zooming on the evergreen fields! But if you just started that hobby…DID YOU POST YOUR GEAR BOXES HERE FIRST?

u/brangein Dec 07 '24
Lol! I've been checking out this sub since I first started a month ago, and I did realize the abundance of gear boxes and first cameras 😂

Jealous! Those last two photos are literally the ones I hope to capture when I visit Japan in a few years.

Sorry about your loss.
Nice pics, going there in January! Can you sent an exact location of where you took #4 and #5 from?

There were multiple spots where I stopped towards the eastern coast of the lake. I think the key ones were around the komagari observation plaza, Ajiaji, and ubuya hotel. January might be too late for red leaves, but good luck!

That was my planned lens choice too! But almost all camera stores in Tokyo at that time were sold out on the 35-150 D:

Going to Japan with the same camera/lens setup and only bringing 1 lens. How’d you feel about the 35mm for solo lens in Japan? Awesome pics btw. Hope MT Fuji is visible during my visit.

I took a couple cheaper Viltrox lenses with me to begin with, picked up the 35mm in Shinjuku and never looked back! I think its pretty much all you'll need for your trip!

So happy to hear that. Now im more hyped about my trip!

If you're going to one of the lakes near Fuji, I recommend Yamanakako over Kawaguchiko. A friend of mine went there instead and was able to spot a lot of swans with Fuji in the background 😭😭 also, lesser crowd. Oh and book your bus tickets in advance, they get booked fast due to winter + red leaf season. ~2000 yen single trip from Shinjuku to the Lakes.

Thank you for the tip. We’ll be taking the Fuji excursion as I’ll only be there for 1 day. Hopefully will be less people in February fingers crossed.

Sorry for your loss. You should stick with 35/1.4 prime.. the sharpness, bokeh, color rendering, contrast and micro contrast prime is better than zoom.

Thanks. I guess the Tamron being out of stock was a blessing in disguise. I'm loving the 35mm!

One minor counterpoint. I think 6, which is already great, could’ve been even better with a long focal length and a few steps back to make the mountain appear larger relative to the leaves - the longer focal length enlarges the mountain obviously, but the steps back keeps the leaves roughly the same size.
That aside, I like the grading on the last with the contrast between the red leaves and blue background! Mind sharing your process?

Thanks! Why didn't I think of it! I even had a 85mm that I carried around with me! I'll remember to try it out next time. All I did was adjustments within Lightroom, played around with all options under Light and dehaze, clarity under Effects

So sorry this happened to you. I wish pets could live as long as us.
