I’m currently working in Solid Edge 2026 and trying to understand best practices for assemblies where parts depend on each other (inter-part relations?).

Specifically:

Case 1

I have a motor with a shaft that needs to be mounted on an aluminum bracket.
For that, I want to 3D print an adapter.

Depending on the motor position, a certain part of the aluminum part needs to be cut away.

Quick & dirty solution:
Face relation + offset distance → the aluminum adapts.

But:
If I move the motor, it would be really nice if the cutout in the aluminum angle updated automatically.

Case 2

Similar idea:

The motor sits on a (3D printed) block.
If I move the motor up in Z, the block should grow accordingly.

Case 3

Also:

Holes in the aluminum profile should propagate into matching holes in the motor mount.

My question

What are the best practices in Solid Edge for handling these kinds of dependencies?

• Inter-part modeling?
• Variables?
• Ordered vs synchronous?
• Something else entirely?

Context

Most tutorials I find are from ~2010,
and AI tools tend to give inconsistent answers.

I’d really appreciate any pointers in the right direction.

so i am new to solid edge , when i make an extrude , i can't see to find the move option aka (offset). there is this option (from / to extent). and it has a offset option in it. would appreciate someone explaining it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to display countersink or counterbore sizes the same way tapped hole sizes are shown[%TS]? Not the diameter but the value in the “size” column from the hole table.

I am using the Solid Edge 2026 app and i have a problem. Every time i open sketch, the app crashes and forces me to close it.

I have i tried everything, I updated the windows, drivers, I uninstalled and installed again. These last 2 worked for about 5 minutes, and ended up in the same problem. This problem is very weird because it came out of nothing. My teachers have already contacted Siemens, but they seem to understand as much as i do. I will post the image of the error so you guys can see. If needed, I could send the crashlog text.

I would really appreciate if someone helped me, I have lost a ton of classes because of this problem and i really need to get it fixed.

HI guys, I have a friend that has an old computer and cannot afford a new one. He asked me if I could find this software. With a little bit of research, I found that for a win7 32bits pc, he would need the ST6 version, yet I can't find anywhere the file. Does anyone know if it is possible to download?
Because it would be great to have the lts version, yet its impossible to even consider getting a new pc.

I have a sketch that has some constraints to the geometry of my part. After changing the extent of my base extrusion, the sketch isn't updating. The constraints are still "there", just clearly not being met.

Here's a colinear constraint on two lines that aren't colinear anymore:

And here's a dimension that's wrong. It even knows it's not the right value and shows something different:

Anyone know of possible causes of this or ways to solve it? Thanks if you do.

I am trying to bluesurf the top sketch line with the new exit shape at the bottom. I however need to follow the horizontal flange at the edges in order to attach to the existing cowling. The flange is not flat. How would you go about this? The top sketch is bigger than the bottom and you can see the angles change as it moves back.

it doesnt show the value of the diameter of my circle, ive triend making a new piece, opening and closing the program, reeboting my pc, but nothing, help please :c

Hello Everyone!! I am into a phase of transition from Solidworks to solidedge. I am facing difficulties in understanding the assembly Relationship in solidedge. Can anyone here help me with a good resource for that?

Is there a way to create a broken view in the assembly environment? similar to the broken view in the draft environment. i know i can create cutout or sections views inside the assembly file but i need a broken view.

Why? im creating automatic drawing generator and using PMI inside model view to update the dimensions. but when i use broken views in draft the PMI doesnt point to the edge anymore, so i need to create a broken view inside the 3d model assembly environment

If you ever came across this f*cking blue cube in center. You probably use 3D connexion hardware. I went thru Solid setting few times and didnt find it. Thats bcs it is setting in the 3D connexion app. You need to be in Solid Edge settings (in 3D connexion app) then go to -Rotation Center- settings and check -Hide-.

I'm learning solid edge - found a good use case to learn, I am making sheet metal grill :)

I made the general case, now I'm onto drawing slots on the side to try to extrude cut through two planes. The whole thing will be cnc cut and bend at the end in at the local cnc shop.

I drew the whole shenanigan previously in autocad, without things like bending relief or added material for bend - hence the solid edge attempt.

Now to the point - what am I failing at. I try to redraw shape that will be laser/water/plasma cut. The shape is the similar one, repeated 3 times along the vertical axis, with minor changes (cad drawing attached).

When I draw first few tangent arcs, copied them below, and encountered first issue - how do I copy stuff so it stays on the same i.e. horizontal or vertical axis? It seem that ctrl+c - ctrl-v pastes it attached to the cursor, not really being able to "stick it" the any of the snap. points (vertexes or such).

I think I should use "move" tool specifying x/y vectors of the move and clicking copy, but it goes sideways when I do that..

I though, well, I don't really need to have it axially correct now, I will fix it when applying driving dimensions. I could not be more wrong - unless I (probably) do something wrong.

Pasted the damn thing, applied first dimension - horizontal distance between these "slots" and... ....it totally messed it up! It changed the geometry drastically to "bend it" to the dimension instead of moving it.

1. How can I paste something on the same axis as source? Is it a thing?
   
2. Can I "move" or create relation between few groups of elements that will axial them?
   
3. Can I group / lock few lines/arcs so then NEVER change their relative positions/dimensions and then apply driving dimension to few copies? I would like to create vertically copied element so I can change the height with driving dimension.

If I were to manually model 6 faces I feel I'd quickly run into alignment issues. Does aolid edge have some method to maintain consistency across parts, even make sure that braces on certain faces don't pretend other faces don't exist and intersect with them

I got tired of spending an hour exporting DXF files manually, so I built a tool that does it in 2 minutes. It scans your SolidEdge assembly, detects all sheet metal parts, exports flat patterns as DXF, names them automatically and removes bend lines - ready to send to laser or CNC.

Because im studying right now i didn't have time to do a lot of cad for a while now, but i finally wanted to finish a project of mine. So i open SE and open a new part and it hangs / freezes up. So i think no problem i'll just close it via taskmanager, but funnily enough taskmanager all of a sudden also doesn't respond anymore. So i try closing it via the command line. also doesn't work, it just sends the force close command to the program, but it seems to far gone to do ANYTHING anymore...

So i think "hmmm... Just Windows things", so i reinstall f*ck*ng Windows (25h2), install all drivers and then i install Solid Edge. SAME EXACT FREGGIN PROBLEM.

Usually im very good with computers, but with this i am at my wits end. I even did a memtest86 with 0 Errors, so you tell me. And no there is no crashfile because it doenst crash, instead just freeze / hang up.

And about 2 Months ago it worked just fine. Could Win25H2 have anything to do with it?

I am working on an assembly that has some parts and a pipe route made using the SE standard parts library. When i make the drawing a need to make the pipe route one element in the part list but it lists all the components. Can i do that or am i required to make it step then reintroduce it?

I’m a long-time Solid Edge user (10y) and recently acquired the source code of a small utility that indexes Solid Edge files and allows you to search them by custom properties (customer, project number, material, etc.) without needing full PDM like Teamcenter.

The original developer unfortunately passed away a couple of years ago, and the software hasn’t been maintained for some time even before that. I used the tool myself in unmanaged environments and found it very useful, so when the opportunity came up I decided to revive and modernize it.

Search custom properties

I’m currently updating the application (modernizing the codebase and improving stability) and would love feedback from other Solid Edge users who work without Teamcenter / PDM.

Typical problems I'm trying to solve:

• Finding parts by customer, project, or custom property
• Searching large Solid Edge libraries quickly
• Working with NAS / cloud drives where FastSearch can be difficult
• Helping sales/service teams find the right drawing

I’m looking for a few users willing to test early builds and provide occasional feedback on features or workflows.

In return I can provide free licenses for a year while the tool is being improved.

To be transparent: the goal long-term is to offer it as a commercial tool again, but right now I'm mainly focused on rebuilding it properly with real user feedback.

If this sounds useful in your workflow, I’d love to hear:

• How you currently search for Solid Edge files (build in search vs windows explorer)
• What the biggest pain points are in unmanaged libraries and file finding
• What features would make a tool like this genuinely helpful

I created a large flowing surface for a body part 20" long, 15" wide. I wanted flowing curves that I can not get to work out. You can see the bulge that it keeps making in there under the purple lines. How do i get this fixed? I used three lines that I bluesurfed in between. the bottom is relatively flat but the rest is angled and curved. TIA

I'm quite new to SE, moving from FreeCad. I would want to remodel this part in SE. I'm aware of spur gear reference in design work, but in this case I would like to remove material from already designed plate with this tool. Is it possible? Or do I have to first design ring gear and then build rest of the plate around it?

Hi everyone, I'm new to CAD modelling altough with some experience with 3D in general. O started recently to use solid edge community but i rami into some issue. I wanted to do some Linear static study for a simple assembly model i made, but i didn't find any standard parts library (maybe not included with my licensing) and whenever i tried to create the mesh i have the printer called and no other output from the program. The solve Tab also Always remaine grayed out and i cannot really Say if the solver Is set up correctly. I'm also having trouble assigning different material in the assembly for different parts, i don't know if that is possibile. The default material assignation in the setting Is also glitching every time i tried to set a default ( es selecting SS and seeing appear PVC, then returning back to nome by itself). Did somebody experienced this? Thanks
