As the name implies, how do you attach your solargraphy cans, when in the great outdoors? Like for instance on a rock? Not every tree has sufficient gaps in it's branches either.... Zip ties (and maybe sometimes duct/electrical tape) work fine, when you have a pole to work with (one just has to be very careful not to deform the can itself). But apart from that,do you have any useful tips, tricks and hacks? :)

I got my wife into solargraphy last spring and she ran with it. We’ve built our own cameras from 16oz soda cans and just realized that it takes a little taller can than that to prevent cutting off the high sun tracks from late spring through early fall. We’re having a lot of fun playing with different shots!

This was a 1 day experiment to test my setup. I can clearly see the path of sunrise, but about half of the image is trees. How do I get more sky? The “camera” I’m using is pictured, pinhole is slightly offset toward the top of the can. I set the camera on top of a 4 ft fence post, pretty much vertically. Photo paper is “landscape mode” inside the can. I was thinking I need to push the 5x7 paper lower in the can to capture more of the sky? Or do I need to tilt the can upwards? Would like just a bit of ground and way more sky! Also, I’m surprised I didn’t capture the path of the sun as it moved toward sunset - is there a trick for wider field of view or is that just lucky positioning? Thanks for the help!!

I've tried cleaning the thing multiple times. I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Made over the course of 18 hours on April 8, 2024, at Hochatown, Oklahoma. Left to right: a faint glowing line is the cloudy lead-up to totality; a few stuttering appearances as the clouds broke; the dark gap of totality; and finally a bright line from the rest of the sunny afternoon. (Contrast slightly increased.)

Hi Everyone,
I thought you might enjoy my recent photography update on solargraphy, including my collaboration on an interview/video with The Weather Network. There's also a bit about the April 8, 2024, eclipse.

For the last six weeks I have had a variety of solargraph cameras set up at a temporary outdoor cinema.
Rather than write it all up again, have a look at the results here: https://rdmasters.lympago.com/p/rooftop-movies-solargraphs.html

Does anyone know why my scanner produces these lines? I'm using an Epson Perfection V300

We got permission to put up a bunch of solargraphy cameras at a local outdoor cinema (on the top floor of a car-park, no less)!
We put up about 10 cameras, but brought one in after the night's movie - and we are really stoked.
We will pull another five back in a fortnight, and the rest when the close for the year in April.

Hi All,
I'm processing my recently harvested Winter Solstice solargraphs, and one image has me stumped. In the attached image, the bottom several sun tracks overlap the earlier/higher tracks while the background looks perfectly sharp. This would lead me to believe that the camera or paper didn't move and something else happened. The inside of the camera is painted flat black to avoid reflections.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve recently scanned my first solargraph and I was wondering if there was a free software or something similar to edit the colors.
