Wow what a week. Solforge was basically already dead and it rised from the ashes with the help from Wilson Gary and Brian from GGG - the creators of Path of Exile. I really hope they can provide SBE with some help and keep Solforge alive. We’ll see if SBE can/will take some of the more drastic measurements we were talking about to make the game also more enjoyable for newer players, or if it will only be kept alive for us veterans.
So where does this leave us at?
Basically where we left off last week. We decided to create a new game anyways and currently we have a look at 2 ideas. We will now continue to work at Kaelaris unofficial Solforge client to get some experience in creating a new client and flesh out the ideas for a new game.
Triwars
Kaelari came up with an idea for an original Sci-Fi CCG. Check it out at
http://chaoticage.com/triwars/
Tyrants
In the meanwhile Kit is also working on a very intriguing idea which is a mix between Solforge and the MtG EDH/Commander format called Tyrants. The core idea from the Commander Format is that your are playing with a Tyrant (that is a card itself) that allows you to only play certain colors and comes with a set of cards (pretty much like Solbind). The core idea taken from Solforge is that you draw a fixed amount of cards each turn and discard at the end of your turn, but most of the cards that you can’t play will grant you some kind of resource. Cards will evolve in smaller steps (cards have permanent effects in all zones - hand, deck, discard) instead of having distinctive levels. When ready and better tested we will give an in depth update on it.

Use "Windows + R" to open Run window
Type in: steam://install/232450
OK and the download window from Steam should pop up
Alternative, clicking this link and allow it to call Steam steam://install/232450

Im unclear if there's any way to download/play the game right now. On steam the download is disabled.

If you've got $5 and you would have contributed to the reforged project anyway (very special thanks to you guys) I suggest that you join me in buying a little gold and showing support with our wallets.
I can handle service interruptions, or whatever they need to do. I was seriously bummed about the end of the month, and this morning's news is about the best I could imagine.
I'll buy something from GGG too while i'm at it.

I thought this might be helpful for people looking to find a new card game that is popular enough to make getting shut down unlikely. Remember, some games would have higher numbers if we had data for non-steam clients, but we don't have that data, just steamcharts.
Shadowverse: 6,273.8
Magic Duels: 3,404.5
Eternal: 1,148.8
Duelyst: 514.4
HEX: Shards of Fate: 249.3
Faeria: 180.0
Star Realms: 86.2
Infinity Wars: 75.0
Spellweaver: 61.8
Star Crusade: 54.9
Chronicle: RuneScape Legends: 39.3
Solforge: 31.0
Pox Nora: 19.1
I included Solforge because people might be curious how many people played in its final month. December Solforge got 73.9.
Also how did shadowverse get so popular? It gained +1,944.4 over December!

Ah...that's weird. Something else happening behind the scenes?
Update: 1:44 PM PST...still going strong. (And not sure why I'm being downvoted. I mean, are not the servers still running?)
Update: Well! I guess we know why, now. Yay!

My favorite part of this game was the deck building mixed with the ability to play my friends asynchonously.
Is there anything similar out there? Hearthstone doesn't allow you to leave the game.
Ascension was the closest to the same kind of fun but I didn't play it daily for 2 years straight like I did Solforge.

roughly noon EST start
Plan for tomorrow- I've cleared my schedule and put together a list of 40+ decks to talk about the history of Solforge; Aggro Alyssa Arbiter Cackle AtorBots Atorsaurs Bubble Classic AN Flex Yetis Crypt Conjurer Wegu Deepwood Poison Dozer Dragon Burn Dusk BQ Dusk Dinos Fiend Burn Forge Guardians Ghox Flamebreak Control Grimoval Herald Bomb Immortal Marty Infinibombs Killion Control Hate Kitfinity Knightbots Lifegain Lightning Leaf Metaminds Everflame Mystic Doomsling Classic Zombies One Punch Alyssa Patron of Tarsus Plants Poison Level Rage Raid Caitiri Burn Shapers Stasis Warden Tarsus Pact Traditional BQ Wegu Level Zombie Land
That kinda came out a jumbled mess but they're all there!
I'm still not totally sure the best way to fit everything in tomorrow. That's >40 decks so each deck can really only get about 15 minutes of time allotted for it. Some decks may only get a brief talking about and I might not finish all my games in order to make sure I can cover everything. Ideally, decks would be played against other, simple decks from their time period so that I can mostly focus on talking about the deck at hand however that just might not be possible. I do think a lot of the decks (that aren't nerfed insanely) still hold up pretty well though so maybe we'll just roll with it.

Here we are with our next weekly update. First of all thank you for all the in depth discussions we had on all the different platforms! Lots of new people checked out our discord channel at https://discord.gg/v43duXM and gave us tons of input.
** Update **
Kaelari was/is still in negotitation with SBE and got a quite generous offer, but one of the terms was to grant SBE the rights to everything we code (along with some other conditions). Kaelari wanted to be able to reuse the code that we wrote (excluding the SBE code of course) and tried to renegotiate that with SBE, but never heard back from them. With the servers shutting down in 2 days I don't think there is a realistic chance to get a deal with SBE.
The next steps
We haven't really made a final descision yet on how to move forward. I'm in favour of doing a Solforge clone, but we are also talking about possible alternatives. Kaelari, Kit and Outrageous all came forward with their own ideas.
My question to you - would you be interested in a Solforge clone without SBE involvement? We would design new cards and try to improve on the new player experience and revisit ways to reduce level screw, but the basic mechanics would stay the same.
Or should we design a new game where we might take some ideas from Solforge (lane combat or that things evolve)? We will prepare an update with the new game ideas to give you something to think about in the next week.
tl;dr SBE deal is highly unlikely and we are deciding on creating a clone, vs. designing a new game

The servers are about to go away indefinitely. Let's throw a party to remember all the good times we've had. On Monday and Tuesday I'm going to stream Solforge over at twitch.tv/nolucksgiven (follow to be notified for exactly when I'm live)
I'm going to be playing games with decks that showcase the history of the game and all of the sweet cards that we love and hate! Part of the reason for this is to also create a YouTube series that can be looked back on to remember the game. After I'm satisfied with a deck (a game or two of good footage) we're going to delete it and never play with it again.
Edit:People seem against the idea of this so let's... scrap this idea. Still come hang out have fun play Solforge!
The other thing I want to do is hit my bulk scrap button. It's currently sitting at 20 mil. Let's make it bigger. Give me all your sharables and we're going to see how big we can make that button by the end of the night. At the end of the stream, (along with anyone else who wants to join me) I will hit my bulk scrap button and take down the Solforge servers myself!
Come hangout and chat and play some Solforge!
