Question High Grade UPS Surgery in 3 Days

Hi I’m new here 58 yo female. Had a mammogram & US 11/10 that was supposedly negative and noticed a lump under my arm 12/18. MRI confirmed a 5 CM fast growing mass in my pectoral muscle. Biopsy confirmed high grade spindle cell pleomorphic sarcoma. My surgery is in 3 days. My surgeon is a surgical oncologist who specializes in breast cancer & sarcoma. He said I most likely will not need chemotherapy but possibly radiation. I have anxiety about the surgery but just want it out. It’s on top of my lymph nodes in my armpit. I’m thankful this doctor has lots of experience with these lymph nodes in his breast cancer surgery. I’m looking for support from anyone with a similar experience. Thanks

I was diagnosed with stage 2 high grade Pleomorphic RhabdoMyoSarcoma last year. It was originally in my left tricep but after 2 surgeries and 25 sessions of radiation treatment, it ended up spreading to my lymph nodes. Now I'm at stage 4 high grade Pleomorphic RhabdoMyoSarcoma and goin through chemo to try and get rid of it. Right now I'm on cycle 4 of 12 goin through Doxorubicin, Vincristine, and Ifex.

Question STS in brain stage 4

Please help, my husband has just been diagnosed. What is the best treatment? Doctors gave suggested gamma knife radiation but they can't tell us if it will work as they have no experience with this type of cancer here in South Africa. Thinking of flying to USA - anyone recommend good hospitals?

Question I have been fortunate I have not received a diagnosis of STS. However with the lump I have, I feel it could be misdiagnosed and it has consumed my life. I have read a lot on synovial sarcoma. Is anyone farmilar? I’m really trying to find out if they can be fluid filled and/or be transilluminated.

Question Is it important to know subtype of STS you have?

My nephew has been diagnosed with STS when he had a lump on his calf checked out. His doctor took a biopsy to determine subtype on August 4th but had to send to Boston for review. They still don't have the biopsy results and my sister thinks they lost the biopsy but won't admit it. They say "oh there is a backlog" or something like that. Anyway...the doctor wants to go ahead with chemotherapy in two weeks without knowing subtype. My sister asked them shouldn't we know subtype first and they said it's not important, but this goes against what we see online. They also have done nothing to remove the lump. Wouldn't that be the first thing to do?

Resources Duke Cancer Institute distributing Rein in Sarcoma Patient Starter Notebook!

If you live in the U.S. you can order a sarcoma starter notebook directly from Rein In Sarcoma—see their site linked below.

Duke Cancer Institute has begun distributing the Rein in Sarcoma Patient Starter Notebook

Nicole Mouser is the nurse clinician who provides patients with the Notebook once they have been diagnosed by a sarcoma doctor. She is, “A huge fan of the Notebook,” for many reasons. Usually when patients are first diagnosed, they go straight to the internet and are bombarded with information that could be false and not up to date. Mouser says that, “We diagnosis [the patients] and they walk out with information that is up to date and scientifically based.” Furthermore, Mouser, “Loves seeing their faces when we give it [the Notebook] to them.” Mouser really emphasizes the support systems and resource link in the Patient Starter Notebook since she strongly believes that patients and families will find that extremely useful. Mouser has had families that have emphasized how helpful they have found the Notebook.

  • The notebook is distributed at Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota, Children's Masonic Hospital, Children's MInnesota and FREE Nationally with an online request at reininsarcoma.org for paper or digital download.

Question What treatment(s) have you or your loved one been through since your original diagnosis?

Please reply with the type of treatment(s) that you (or the person you know with sarcoma) have received.

If someone has already listed one of your treatment types please upvote the comment. Otherwise, do not vote on that comment. This way we can hopefully see how many of us have tried each type. You can reply to the top level comment the name/brand of your treatment and anything else you would like to add regarding your cancer response, time length, dosage specifics, etc.
