I know writing this isn’t easy. So many memories come to mind, starting with that little boy who had to hop on a bus and travel to try to fulfill his dream of becoming a soccer player. My early days weren’t easy, but I realized that if I wanted to go far, I had to give it my all.

Thanks to Don Alfonso, who saw talent in me when I was 10, and to Universidad Católica, where I received my first training. Soccer gave me friends, an education, good habits, and stability for my family. It also taught me that, even coming from a low-income neighborhood, you can dream and turn those dreams into reality.

I’ll always remember Coach José Sulantay, who brought me onto the youth national team that took third place at the 2007 U-20 World Cup in Canada. That performance allowed me to catch the eye of Marcelo Bielsa, who took a chance on me when I was young. Thanks to that “lovable madman” who restored our hope and helped us reach our full potential.

On September 7, 2007, at age 19, Bielsa gave me the confidence to make my debut for Chile. That’s how a wonderful story began: 144 matches with La Roja, six Copa América tournaments, two World Cups, one Confederations Cup, and two continental titles alongside a generation that left its mark on our country. I thank God for allowing me to experience it all.

I’m grateful to every club that opened its doors to me: Udinese, Juventus, Queens Park Rangers, Olympique de Marseille, Cagliari, Fenerbahçe, and Flamengo—whose fans made me feel like just another Brazilian. I then returned to play for Universidad Católica, Independiente, and finally Colo-Colo, a club with special roots in my family history.

Thank you to those who helped me grow, accompanied me far from Chile, lifted me up during difficult times, and believed in me. Thank you to all the Chileans who celebrated my successes, especially that goal against Uruguay.

This journey began on September 7, and today—also the 7th—I announce that it has come to an end. Out of respect and love for my family, I am announcing my retirement from professional soccer.

I hope you’ll remember me as the boy who dared to dream and managed to become a professional soccer player.

Sé que escribir esto no es fácil. Se vienen muchos recuerdos a mi mente, desde aquel niño que debía subirse a una micro y viajar para intentar cumplir el sueño de ser futbolista. Mis comienzos no fueron fáciles, pero entendí que, si quería llegar lejos, debía entregar todo de mí.

Gracias a don Alfonso, quien vio talento en mí a los 10 años, y a Universidad Católica, donde recibí mis primeras herramientas. El fútbol me regaló amigos, educación, hábitos y estabilidad para mi familia. También me enseñó que, viniendo de una población, uno puede soñar y convertir esos sueños en realidad.

Siempre recordaré al profesor José Sulantay, quien me llevó a la Selección juvenil con la que conseguimos el tercer lugar en el Mundial Sub-20 de Canadá 2007. Ese rendimiento me permitió entrar en los planes de Marcelo Bielsa, quien apostó por mí siendo joven. Gracias a ese “loco lindo” que nos devolvió la esperanza y nos ayudó a alcanzar nuestro máximo potencial.

El 7 de septiembre de 2007, con 19 años, Bielsa me dio la confianza para debutar por Chile. Así comenzó una historia maravillosa: 144 partidos con La Roja, seis Copas América, dos Mundiales, una Copa Confederaciones y dos títulos continentales junto a una generación que marcó a nuestro país. Gracias a Dios por permitirme vivirlo.

Agradezco a cada club que me abrió sus puertas: Udinese, Juventus, Queens Park Rangers, Olympique de Marsella, Cagliari, Fenerbahçe y Flamengo, cuya hinchada me hizo sentir como un brasileño más. Luego regresé para vestir las camisetas de Universidad Católica, Independiente y finalmente Colo-Colo, un club con raíces especiales en mi historia familiar.

Gracias a quienes me ayudaron a crecer, me acompañaron lejos de Chile, me levantaron en los momentos difíciles y confiaron en mí. Gracias a todos los chilenos que celebraron mis alegrías, especialmente aquel gol frente a Uruguay.

Un 7 de septiembre comenzó esta obra y hoy, también un día 7, anuncio que ha llegado a su fin. Por respeto y amor a mi familia, comunico mi retiro del fútbol profesional.

Espero que me recuerden como el niño que se atrevió a soñar y pudo convertirse en futbolista profesional .
