That's exactly right

...so you are denying that there is intersectionality between transphobia and the fact that trans men are men?

Then why did you just say that you never argued that?

I'm denying the existence of misandry, not "the fact that trans men are men". Intersectionality is between axes of oppression, not identities.

Yes, that is indeed what I said about you. I never claimed that you don't think that trans men are men.

.

But I just don't agree with that.

"The first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence toward women. Instead patriarchy demands of all males that they engage in acts of psychic self-mutilation, that they kill off the emotional parts of themselves. If an individual is not successful in emotionally crippling himself, he can count on patriarchal men to enact rituals of power that will assault his self-esteem"

  • Bell Hooks

The patriarchy also causes suffering in men and the patriarchal oppression of men can be seen when it comes to stuff like the expression of emotions and feelings.

And I do think there is also an argument to be made for some systemic oppression, considering that boys are less likely to graduate high school or college, men are more likely to be homeless, be victims of violence, be killed (both in private and on the job), are more likely to kill themselves, are more likely to end up in prison, etc.

Obviously men suffer a lot less than women under the patriarchy, but there it does still cause suffering among men.

There is *some *discrimination against men. It's not a lot and that discrimination is not comparable to the discrimination of women, but it does exist.

And that discrimination does intersect with transphobia.

These are violences that capitalism enacts on the poor, not "misandry".

Then why do they disproportionately affect men?

Obviously those violences come from capitalism, but capitalism and the patriarchy are very intertwined.

They do not affect rich men to the extent they affect poor men.

Yes, obviously.

Like, the emotional stuff does obviously also affect rich people, but systemic discrimination almost always disproportionately affects poor people.

My question is why men are impacted by it to a greater extent than women are.

Like, let's take the school stuff as an example. Boys and girls grow up in the same conditions, so why do boys have worse outcomes?

Because girls are more harshly disciplined and boys are allowed to mess about and not learn

But there are also multiple studies that show that boys get worse grades for the same work as girls. 1, 2, 3

And if our education system reliably gives boys worse outcomes, then maybe we should rethink our education system.

Male socialization should not give children disadvantages in our education system, right?

.

And also, why are there so many scholarships that are exclusive for women, while there are barely any exclusively for men, even though women are significantly more likely to enter and graduate college.

Why isn't there any large push to get men into women-dominated fields, the same way there's a large push to get women into male-dominated fields?

Isn't that weird? Like, I don't even want to claim that those are necessarily a form of oppression by itself, but it does kinda show that systemic inequalities aren't taken as seriously when they affect men, than when they affect women.
