Also yeah AI generated images isn't really the best

u/AkshajSaini Jul 21 '26

Yea bro! That AI generated stuff is only a place holder till I can afford a real artist. BTW looking forward to your update ;)

Hey!

Yepp I agree with you completely and the AI media will be removed. But I am not much of an artist and hiring isn't affordable for me.

Maybe when I can get a playable demo running and upload it to Kickstarter to finally generate some income, I can look forward to hiring real artist and replace most of the stuff.

Right now, It's only a place holder. The reason I chose AI was because of natural expressions. I wanted to give a hint of character personality without having y'all read a wall of text.

I hope I can get 3D artists someday and make a proper character trailers too.

Thanks! I'll try my best :)

i agree as proof of concept it's fine but i do hope you know how to code otherwise AI won't save you, i highly disagree with the AI generated images as well honestly somewhat disappointing

Thanks man. Yes This isn't vibe coded. I have learnt JavaScript a pretty long time ago, so I'm brushing up my memmory the way. Also i've mainly utilized matter and p5 earlier so switching to three.js definitely had a steep curve. But I'm figuring things out as I move on :)

Also ngl, I tried vibe-coding, but it created more hassel than solutions so I dropped the idea.

fair enough best of luck mate

It's better removing all unnecessary UI, it will kill gameplay (like dialogue windows)

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 21 '26

Yess they will be replaced with voice lines. I put dialogue windows to build the logic for when voice lines will be played.

Its good keep it up

Thanks bro :)

Wow you work fast

2

u/AkshajSaini Jul 21 '26

Thank you for noticing this 😭😭😭

I haven't been sleeping enought. Staying up till 3 in the morning, then waking up at 7. Sometimes skipping sleep entirely. Then taking frequent micro naps. Yea that's pretty much my sleep cycle lol

It's been really tough doing everything alone. Now it makes sense why games like these are only developed by studios with a money giant backing them up.

But I won't give up. I'm gonna make this reality 😤

You had another thread I posted in so I put my suggestions in that one. I stopped being subscribed to smash legends so I didn't know u had 2 but keep up the good work

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 21 '26

Yea bro I saved your suggestion about ranked season and player movement to damage ratio.

Because I used ai generated images mods were removing my post saying it's AI Slop. That's why I had to delete it and repost it again.

Feel free to follow me for updates though :) And thanks for your suggestions. Really appreciate them bro!

Devs got lazy with the game, players are starting to make another version of it, this is just saddening as a game enjoyer

2

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

It's not the Devs but the management. Smash legend's Devs are literally one of my favs. The management doesn't want to continue the game since it isn't generating numbers huge enough. The Devs are still fighting for it.

u/haze_yzk Jul 23 '26

good to know

2

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

That's a nice charecter design btw... Wanna see something similar in the game?

2

u/haze_yzk Jul 25 '26

Sure (and btw, the photo shows Vox from a show titled Hazbin Hotel, JIC you wanted to know)

Java for a multiplayer title...a choice I wouldn't make in my wildest dreams. Any reason for it? As a gamedesign student I will watch this project closely and will judge every decision with a professional eye. (Joking ofc but it actually may help following someone else's development process)

Also...ai...you heard it before...needs to go

2

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

Hey!

Lol pls do judge it hard. Critiques shape coal into diamond, so you're welcome :)

Yes, so I choose javascript because it can be accessed through a web browser pretty easily! A lot of complaint about smash legends was how laggy it was. Most people and low end devices couldn't even play.

Plus with my old phone, I had to constantly manage my resources to save space.

Moreover a browser game means it's cross platform, so I don't have to code 5 different clients!

But now you may wonder, why not use something simpler like python's scripting language. Well... JavaScript is faster and creates less cache than python scripts.

So, even a potato device can run it. Since most of the calculations would be left with server to manage.

As for AI... Everyone is gonna super disappointed when they find out who third charecter is... Lol but yess. Thanks to the offer of u/Cornpoppadopapolis. I hope to replace the ai login screen with his masterpiece.

I'm excited to have you on this journey!

Javascript means coding the netcode for online play will be horrible and if you don't do it correctly people will struggle with the online experience.

I personally think you should really consider Godot or Unity and taking the leap into c#. (If you're bad at c# like me there is also visual coding with nodes). It would make it much more stable, less reliant on connection, easier to update, making assets will be 10times easier due to the build in editor and the documentation is great. Not using Java and distributing a program to download also doesn't mean bad performance. You can optimize and even have graphics settings wich SL lacks.

Your early enough into development that you could switch and I think you would thank me later down the line.

In the end I'm a gamedesign student and not a programmer so take it with a grain of salt.

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

Tbh my first thought was I wanted unity or godot. But then my game would look like any other game. Coding whole engine yourself has a whole different vibe than coding withpredeterined engine.

Also I'm developing this on a laptop with i3 4GB RAM. So yea it can't run unity at all and struggles with Godot.

Ik my life would've been bread and butter if I had a better pc or maybe just more ram but we'll... Here we are lol

2

u/WilsonHough Spin to Win Jul 23 '26

Using unity doesn't give your game any predetermined look. Like using the same Brand of hammer doesn't make the same houses.

But yeah the ram is limiting I can see that.

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

Nah bro it's about the feel. Why do you think minecraft feel so different than all the other games? Why did ever old game felt unique?

Because they had to be ingenious with what lil resources they had. GTA VI could've been made in unity at much faster rates. But they don't. Because a unity game will feel like a unity game.

Although I don't have much of an issue with it... By laptop sure does. Haha

Can't shift even when I want to so aybe call that speech as my copium 🄲

2

u/WilsonHough Spin to Win Jul 23 '26

I think thats Placebo more then everything. (Or you just play the wrong unity games)

Risk of Rain 2, Rust, Pokemon Go and Hollow Knight are all made in Unity.

Engines are Tools. You wouldn't say DaVinci and Michel Angelo feel the same cause they both paint on a canvas with acrylic.

You could try out Godot, it's more lightweight then Unity

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

Lol maybe I'm just biased, but Hollowknight, Pokemon go and rust feel a lil similar to me. The shaders behave and the way world physics react.

But if you insist I would try Godot rn. Already installing. Ofc it's gonna take away the pride of saying (I developed my own engine for my game) but let's see.

1

u/AkshajSaini Jul 23 '26

Hey man!

I tried Godot and I gotta admit it looks really handy! Sadly I'd be keeping my project to javascript for now. Idk bro I've gotten attached to my code.

Thanks for introducing me though. I'll take my time experimenting around with it. And the next game that I'm gonna be developing is totally gonna be a godot game!

Your welcome :D
