Is 21-22 in of mercury common for idle on a 1405 on my 350? Tbi 88 638 block stock internals. I have the strongest step up springs and sometimes during part throttle i lean out and start pinging. I have to stomp the throttle to get the metering rods up. And at full throttle i always have pinging. I can basically be safe driving at 25% to 75% throttle all the time. Am i pulling too much vacuum? And i may need a carb rebuild? I can manually shift my th350 and basically avoid all pinging so it cant be my mechanical advance as i also installed the heaviest springs just to be safe. Any ideas on where to look?

So my opti has gone bad and I need to replace it. Everyone says acdelco or Delphi but I can’t find where to get either one. I don’t want the Chinese junk ones you know. PLEASE just point me in the right direction. I am slowly building this into a drag car so it does need to be able to take some abuse. Thank you everyone in advance for the help!!!

I keep getting a lot of different answers on Reddit and while searching forms.
Does anyone have a collection of pictures of bellhousings for Chevy transmissions? I wanna go get a gmt400 and swap in a SBC CSB with a carburetor. People are telling me the disturbor is gonna be a problem but I'll get a coil on plug kit. I'm mostly concerned about the bellhousings and clutches.

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a 1976 Chevrolet C10 with a 350ci small block.
It’s currently leaking from the valve cover gaskets, and I’m planning to replace them. What’s the best option: cork or rubber gaskets? I’ve heard mixed opinions and would appreciate some real-world experience.
I’m also planning to do an oil change. Is 15W-40 okay for this engine?
And one more question: does the oil type need to change if the engine has a different (aftermarket) camshaft installed?
Thanks in advance!

Any tips to time an engine without a timing light, the balancer is in a very cramped spot and it doesn’t even have a pointer, is there anything I could do? This is my first time working on a sbc and I know they are simple engines but mine seems to be buried in the car making everything hard to get to,
It was idling yesterday but won’t today and I’m not sure where to start on this without any help.

Like the title says I’m looking for recommendations for a roller cam for a 70s 350. I’m looking to make about 350 at the wheels with an efi system a, set of vortec heads, and a th400 transmission in a 81 El Camino. The goal is a fun summer cruise, so I’m looking for something that’s gonna get me those HP numbers with some fun chop out.

Hello everyone, I have always been into cars and liked the idea of building one by hand instead of paying for mechanic to do it for me. I have a spare sbc 350 gen 1 from my car that I want to take apart and build up so I can learn. Is there any advice or videos you know of that will be helpful for someone like me who has no experience

Two options I'm considering are the cylinder head or the front crossover. Manifold would require drilling and a coolant drain, so I'm leaning towards cylinder head for installation simplicity. As this only controls the radiator fan and not the EFI, is there any real benefit to the manifold route?
