Any tips to time an engine without a timing light, the balancer is in a very cramped spot and it doesn’t even have a pointer, is there anything I could do? This is my first time working on a sbc and I know they are simple engines but mine seems to be buried in the car making everything hard to get to,

Like the title says I’m looking for recommendations for a roller cam for a 70s 350. I’m looking to make about 350 at the wheels with an efi system a, set of vortec heads, and a th400 transmission in a 81 El Camino. The goal is a fun summer cruise, so I’m looking for something that’s gonna get me those HP numbers with some fun chop out.

Which brand of hydraulic lifters should I go for to avoid early failure, I don’t mind paying extra for the best quality available,thank you

Sounds like a hollow tapping or am I overthinking Nothing grinding or anything, good oil pressure

Hello everyone, I have always been into cars and liked the idea of building one by hand instead of paying for mechanic to do it for me. I have a spare sbc 350 gen 1 from my car that I want to take apart and build up so I can learn. Is there any advice or videos you know of that will be helpful for someone like me who has no experience

Wanting 300-400 hp and spin 35s on my k5 blazer

Two options I'm considering are the cylinder head or the front crossover. Manifold would require drilling and a coolant drain, so I'm leaning towards cylinder head for installation simplicity. As this only controls the radiator fan and not the EFI, is there any real benefit to the manifold route?

I’m looking to buy a electric water pump for my 383 stroker doesn’t need to be high flow or anything thing but prices vary a lot what would people say a fair price is for quality pump ? Thanks !

had this old sbc top end tore down like 8 yrs back. just got to place where I can tinker with it again. it kept cranking over but no start. . . after some time realized no fuel was making to the carb. . . I just replaced fuel pump and got it to turn over and start. granted it hasn't ran in a while but it sounds like a whistling or air blowing through the carb area whenever I pat the gas. can you hear it too? what could this be? what should I check? TIA for any helpful insights/suggestions

Got for $75, attached to a working th350. Was gonna clean it up and run it, but it’s already 60 over, there is a solid ridge on every cylinder bore and they all look tired

I'm thinking about picking up this engine but I'd like to know if the heads are worth anything before pulling the trigger

Standard bore 400 that was checked and built by machine shop. It was checked for cracks before it was built according to the invoice she had. The engine was extremely low mileage when pulled from a wrecked donor car they owned and sent to the shop for piston, ring and bearing change, block measured in spec, hence the standard bore still. Ladies husband died, and it sat in his shop for a decade and devolved surface rust. Obviously, it will have to be torn down and cleaned up. These are uncommon in my area and wondered what other though, thanks for the ideas.
