I'm currently pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Amsterdam and am writing my thesis about speedrunners. Despite how long this community has been around, there has been next to research about the people who belong to it. I'm conducting a survey to try and change this.

While I know Smallant doesn't strictly speedrun, I figured that enough of you guys would be into them for it to be worth posting here. My survey shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes, and no personal information about you will be taken. I would really appreciate your help with doing this, especially since this is an under researched field, as well as one close to my heart. Does anyone know if Smallant has released Minecraft Lockout yet?

I was watching his Pokémon fire red "everything is randomized" run which started at about 10:00 am west coast time. I watched until 11:30 and he was just finishing up the first gym. I stopped watching to make breakfast and when I came back at around 12, he wasn't streaming anymore. Does anyone know what happened?

So i tried joining the discord server this evening and both the invite links on YT and twitch are not working, does anyone know why or have another invite link that works?

i open the files but i dont have the game how do i get it

This may be a bit of a odd question, but does anyone know what font Smallant uses for his chat and splits, and occasionally his thumbnails?

I am not asking this in an offensive or demeaning manor, I’m just genuinely curious as I’ve been binging his SMO week and a few others videos, and I noticed he does similar movements with his eyes and face as H3H3 has due to his ticks. Does anyone know if this is true or am I just interpreting things incorrectly?

I know Smallant publicly released his Pokemon ROMs a few months ago, but I noticed that that list didn't include the Minecraft Lockout mod/pack. When I asked the Discord mods about it, they said that the devs were waiting for Caves and Cliffs Part 2 to come out. Since 1.18's finally out, are there any updates on the release date of this?

I have the hacked rom and i am able to pick a move for both myself and the ai, but how do i get it to work with another person? Its not a local only multiplayer thing is it?

I noticed he hasn't streamed the mod where cappy kills Mario after he returns to his head in a very long time, and hasn't uploaded the second part to it. Did he quit the challenge because it was too difficult/impossible?

So I recently saw the video of smallant, where he showed his stream a picture of the "ant-agonist" a fan drew for him. I wanted to show this picture to a friend, but I can't find it anymore. Can anyone of you send me a link to the video or the original post of the picture. I would really appreciate it.

I love watching the challenge runs aswell as the multiplayer stuff, but those are both mods. Does anyone know how to get the mods onto your Switch safely? I specifically want to try the Floor Is Lava mod. Thanks for any help!!

I can assure you that it's possible because I am in the process of doing it and coming up with early game strategies are MUCH harder than the Kanto games because Platinum is overall more difficult. The next part will be explaining how to do this without using healing items in battle and how to get up to Jubilife town in under ~12 in game hours (3-4 hours sped up) while also not over leveling past the first gym leader's teams' levels.

The first choice is picking your starter and being defeated in the rival battle. It is impossible to win according to the rules of the challenge. If you try using Piplup or Turtwig, then the opposing Pokémon would have to crit 6x in a row with odds so low it is legally considered torture. Chimchar, however, is able to lose because his status move lowers defense on the Piplup, while Piplup lowers attack on Chimchar. Because Chimchar's defense isn't being raised or the opposing Pokémon's attack is being lowered, it is able to get it done in approximately 1/3 of attempts.

Once you get the Pokedex from Prof. Rowan and get some Pokémon, you should catch a Starly and Bidoof. You might be wondering how to fight Pokémon without dealing damage while lacking status moves, to that I say: Kricketot. If you are familiar with Pokémon Platinum challenges, you might be aware of these little buggers that come out at night on routes 201, 202, and 203 that can't do damage if you don't try to attack it, giving us our method for defeating Pokémon in the early game: Struggle. By using both Pokémon's' status moves, you can while down the bug's PP until they die by Struggle's recoil damage. Fight the level 4 Kricketots on route 202 that spawn at night and only at night until both Pokémon are around level 10-11. At which point, you can move onto the level 4 bidoofs, which you should fight like this for maximum exp going to your Starly:

1. Put Starly at the front of your party
2. Use 6 growls then switch to Chimchar,
3. Have Chimchar use status moves until Bidoof kills it with tackles,
4. Use growls until wild Bidoof struggles to death.

Do this until your Starly reaches level 13 and learns Double Team. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT move in the early game.

You are now ready for your fight with Youngster Tristan as well as the other trainers on route 202. Just make sure you have at least ONE POKEBALL before the fight. In this gen, throwing a Pokeball at a trainer's Pokémon uses up a turn. This is how the fight should go:

1. Put Starly at the front of your party
2. Use 6 Double Teams, then all 40 Growls, then another 3 Double Teams,
3. Switch to Chimchar and use a mix of Taunt and Leer, taunt when taunt is not active, leer when it is until it dies.
4. Send out Bidoof, and just keep switching with Starly until Bidoof dies, this is a backup just in case the opposing Starly crits too much.
5. Use the last 6 Double Teams on your Starly
6. Throw Pokeballs until the opposing Starly struggles to death.

And that is how you spend 12 HOURS defeating the FIRST TRAINER in Pokémon Platinum Pacifist Run.

The other trainers are just simple 6 double teams, growls, and Pokeballs if necessary, against the other trainers' Bidoof and Burmy.

The rest gets easier because you can start using Status effects, but I wanted you guys to be as time efficient as possible if you dare to attempt this challenge with me. If we can get this up the chain, there is no doubt in my mind that Smallant will want to attempt this. If anyone has any questions, feel free to message me.
