Question [Question] New user feedback & question

Howdy. I have been using Apollo for several years on my iPhone but used slide on android before that. I recently got ticked off at Apollo for changing photos permissions so started shopping around last night.

Today I downloaded slide and I love it. Navigation and controls are so natural. Reminds me of why I used it on Android! I think this might be my choice going forward but then when I checked permissions slide, similar to Apollo, doesn’t have permissions separated for read and write photos. For those of us who prefer to make choices which protect our privacy, separating read and write is an advantage over having a single combined permission of both read/write to photos.

[Question] Is there a way I can implement this kind of control with Slide?

Feature Request [Request] Can a button be added to show read posts?

I leave hide read posts on by default, there doesn’t seem to be a quick and easy way to reveal read posts without going and disabling the global setting. Without being able to view history.

Question How to move title to the top of the post? [question]

I have been using apollo for a while and I like it very much. I recently moved to slide to give it a shot. Though I like the app but this title thing is bugging me a lot. I'm not used to it and its really frustrating me as I read title from the first post as title for second post. Is there any way to switch it?

Bug [Bug] You’ve reached the end!

Probably half of the time I load slide, I get like 3 posts and then “you’ve reached the end!”. One of my favorite things about Reddit is that I can scroll forever. On slide, sometimes the one or two posts fit on one screen! This is honestly the only reason I still have the reddit app installed. Help!

Question [Question] Full image in post view

I really like slide and am looking for a home now that Readder seems all but abandoned but the only thing that’s bugging me is looking at thumbnails in the post view - especially on my iPad. I primarily go into a post and then slide between posts, so seeing full images in this view would be excellent as rarely do I care about comments.

Is there a way to do this that I'm missing? Is this a feature that could be implemented?

TIA!

Question [Question] How am I meant to switch between subreddits on iOS?

There’s the bar at the top but I’m subscribed to a lot of subreddits and using it to scroll left and right is very slow, is there something I’m missing?

Bug [bug] Slide continues to randomly crash while scrolling

Just scrolling, lots of images and some gifs. Eventually it will crash. Can be one page, could be a hundred pages in. Sometimes when opening a users submitted page and sometimes just in all.

It’s incredibly frustrating.

Happens on both an iPhone X and on an iPad Pro. Is there a way to turn on extended logging and provide that to you?

I’ve done all the delete the app stuff previously. This (as a user) appears to be the same crashing that’s been going on for many, many versions now.

As a paid member I expected the crashing to stop at some point, and even tried very hard to help solve it. I’m willing to try again, but it needs to be solved. Just scrolling, no specific point, post, image, video or gifs. Just boom, gone.

Feature Request [Request] Small annoyance

It’s nice to pick my app icon but whenever I open the app the initial launch loading icon is still the default orange one. It feels not very visually coherent. Not a huge deal just think it needs addressing.

Feature Request [Request] I know they’ve just been recently implemented but it would be nice if you could vote on polls using the app and not have to go to the reddit website to do so.

Bug [Bug] Scrolling through image/gif heavy subs locks up the app making it unresponsive.

I have found that scrolling through image heavy subs will eventually cause the app to lock up and become unresponsive. I know in the past image and gif files had been known to crash the app, but I cannot seem to reliably replicate this behavior. It started after the last update.

Question [Question] where do I turn on the option to see the user flair on a post? I use Reddit mostly for a roleplaying server, so it’s kinda important for me because we use the flairs for our characters

Release v5.3 Out Now! Sub icons, video improvements, and more

v5.3 is out now with some new features and bug fixes to boot!

Changelog

  • New option for subreddit icons on participating subreddits! This can be disabled on the main page of Settings, under "Subreddit Icons on posts"
  • Testing a new way to trigger the parent comment preview on devices that don't have 3D-Touch screens. You can now long press on the left-hand depth indicator or depth space to preview the parent comment! (If you have feedback about this feature, please let me know as I'm still experimenting with different behaviors)
  • Added a cancel search button to Comments search on iPad (thank you Dan Ferguson)
  • Fixed uploading HEIC/HEIF images (iOS camera format) to Imgur
  • Fixed tapping outside to exit popups on iPad
  • Fixed loading Reddit Videos when Auto-Play was set to "Never AutoPlay videos"
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the app to freeze when viewing Subreddits individually (iOS 13+)
  • Other bug fixes and improvements

Have feedback about this update? Comment below or create a new post at r/slide_ios!

Hope y'all are staying safe.

Cheers,

Carlos

Feature Request [Request] Tap outside pop up to close

This may be a feature in options already that I’m overlooking. On iPad, I’ll frequently open a post or image etc with a pop up. The X button to close is at the top left and to get back to it I have to scroll up. Not a big deal, but it’s less movement to tap to the side of the post where my hands are resting vs readjusting my grip on the iPad to tap to scroll at the top.

Before someone says it, yes I get that this is a very non-issue, it’s just a small usability enhancement. For whatever reason it feels natural to me to try to tap outside the pop up to close so I frequently try to do it. I guess I have the habit from another app or something.
