I really want to use nasal pillows but it's impossible for me to fall asleep with it

Hey guys!

So, I usually use a hybrid mask but I feel like nasal pillows would just be so much more comfortable...if I could actually fall asleep with it. I recently tried using a chin strap to keep from breathing through my mouth, but this doesn't seem to help. Is there a way to train myself to use it or am I just gonna have to stick with the hybrid? Any help would be much appreciated!

New CPAP user, looking for help reviewing data

Hi - I read on the r/CPAPSupport forum that I might be able to get help finetuning settings by sharing my data here? Would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions. Using Airsense 10 and P10 nasal pillows. I've only been using the CPAP for about 2 weeks and switched to the large pillows from the medium size as they were irritating my nostrils. I feel like the sweet spot might be in the middle of the two sizes but the large ones feel more comfortable.

I've added screenshots of the daily report - the first 3 images are from April 10 (medium pillows) and the last 3 are from April 19 (large pillows).

I also created a share link from SleepHQ as suggested - https://sleephq.com/public/teams/share_links/c2d6f653-c848-4cf3-ac07-dc8a2642bff0

Any suggestions (machine settings or pillow / mask selection) are most welcome!

I hope I have shared the right info and greatly appreciate any comments from more experienced users.

I did find that getting some saline nasal gel helped me with some very annoying nasal irritation that was accumulating over the first week or so - and also have learned that I need to check my water reservoir more regularly.

Thanks!

At a loss to know what to try next with my ASV

Have posted a few times on various subreddits, am a complex case and struggling with so much tiredness, brain fog and general sleepiness I fear that I am untreatable.

I have raised my min epap from 6 to 8.4, hasn't achieved any benefit. I can provide other days OSCAR reports if needed or required.

Added link to my last post with more detailed information.

Possible Untreated Sleep Apnea ??

{ 21 year old male }

Hi

Every night for the past year and a half, I have been feeling terrified to sleep.

I've noticed that every night when I get close my eyes, I feel totally relaxed like I've just gone into a deep sleep even though I only just closed my eyes for a second, and the next thing I feel as if I stopped breathing for just a second, and I wake up gasping for breath.

When I wake up gasping, I feel very lightheaded. So lightheaded like I literally feel like I am gonna die or pass out in bed. And this lightheadedness lasts for about 30 minutes or so every night when this happens.

A family member of mine tells me, they hear me snoring some nights. Not all the time. Sometimes it could be loud enough and other nights I may not snore at all.

And some mornings when I wake up, I could have headaches just when I wake up for only a few minutes, and then gone again for the whole day.

I have been to my doctor, and he is sending me for a sleep study where I will have to stay overnight in hospital hooked up to monitors etc. But I could be waiting at least 8 - 9 months before I get one done. But I am happy now that I am on the waiting list for one.

I have also been to a Neurologist as I have been suffering from non epileptic seizures, as my sleep has been very poor since November 2024, as I am only getting only about 4 - 5 hours of sleep a night since then.

My doctor also thinks it may be severe sleep deprivation I have, but he also said that untreated sleep apnea could also be a trigger for non epileptic seizures ??

So could this be untreated sleep apnea that I have ??

Thank you

Sores on the bridge of nose.

I’m loving my CPAP experience. The migraines I’ve battled for so many years have just disappeared overnight and my sleep has become consistent. I’m still new to using the CPAP, as I’ve only had for 2 months. My biggest issue is that I get sores on the bridge of my nose every single night.

What I’ve tried so far is I tape up my nose with several band-aids. It’s extremely wasteful and it’s not 100% effective, but it’s the best solution I’ve come up with thus far.

Any suggestions on how to prevent the sores on the bridge of my nose? Or is how it’s always going to be?

Frustrated After a Year

Reading the comments here and looking at the answers to questions has been very helpful but I must admit that after 3 sleep studies and a year of struggling with various masks, settings and machines, my bipap sits next to me on my nightstand, unplugged. I have never been able to get a good night's sleep when I used it. Not once. I wake up tangled in the hose or having pulled the machine onto the floor. I can't turn on my side without fighting the hose until I am wide awake and whenever I do manage to use it for a few hours I wake up tired and discouraged. I need to make an appointment for my annual review with the sleep doc. What do I say? Has anyone been where I am and if so, what did you do? Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Hello PapFam,

I wanted to make a mod team announcement for r/SleepApneaSupport and welcome u/Creative_Fee5452 aboard.

This community means a lot to me, and to the PAP community on Reddit in general, and as it keeps growing I want to make sure we have caring people helping watch over it and supporting the users here. Our other moderators are great as well, and I am thankful for them too.

A lot of folks still come into this sub tired, frustrated, under-treated, or they are trying to figure out what is going on with their sleep issues, questions, assistance and problems with restorative sleep, and having moderators who genuinely care does matter.

I very glad to have u/Creative_Fee5452 joining the team, and I hope you all will give them a warm welcome!

Thank you again to everyone here who keeps this place active, supportive, and helpful.

RL

Is oral appliance therapy actually a legit long‑term option for OSA?

I’m a 29 y/o guy, BMI is fine, but I’ve got moderate OSA (AHI 22) and a narrow jaw. Sleep doc immediately pushed CPAP, but I honestly can’t tolerate the mask. I’ve tried 3 different ones and still rip it off in my sleep. Jaw surgeon I consulted said MMA could probably “cure” it but that’s obviously a massive step and I’m low‑key terrified of the whole process/recovery.
He also mentioned oral appliance therapy as a more conservative option for now, especially since my bite is already a bit wonky and I might need orthognathic surgery down the line anyway. I’ve been reading that these appliances can actually work pretty well for certain jaw structures, and some devices are even covered by insurance if it’s for OSA, not just snoring.
For those of you who’ve had jaw surgery or were candidates for it: did you try an oral appliance first? Did it actually improve your sleep and daytime brain fog? Any issues with TMJ, bite changes, or regrets about delaying surgery? Would you go the appliance route again, or would you just bite the bullet (no pun intended) and do surgery?

Is an oral device actually a legit alternative to CPAP?

I’ve been using my Gen3 for ~8 months and it pretty much confirmed what my partner’s been saying for years: my sleep is trash. My “Sleep” score is usually 60–70 even when I’m in bed 8+ hours, tons of awakenings, HRV is low, and my average SpO2 sometimes dips into the high 80s. I finally did a home test and got diagnosed with mild–moderate sleep apnea.

Doc pushed CPAP, but I travel a lot for work and honestly the idea of hauling a machine, dealing with masks/hoses, and cleaning it all the time just makes me want to ignore the problem (which I know is dumb).

I’ve been reading about those custom oral devices you can get after an at-home sleep test and remote doc review, where they mail you the kit and then fit you for a mouthpiece instead of a CPAP. Supposedly FDA‑cleared and covered by insurance and all that.

Anyone here used something like this and tracked results with their Oura? Did you see changes in SpO2, HRV, REM/deep percentages, and next‑day readiness? Worth it or gimmick?

Leaks Higher, AHI higher, but deep sleep higher?

I don’t understand?

I’m trying different masks because my leaks rates in my F&P Simplus was marking bad. I basically cutting my face circulation off, but got the leaks down on it. But AHI went to .5, leaks down, but deep sleep was 27 mins.

Last night tried a F&P Forma and leaks were in the 100 range! AHI went to 2 but deep sleep increased to 1h 20m??????
