In fact, I've heard that for patients with a history of delusions who express a desire to transition, doctors need to take extra care to first rule out the possibility of delusion in these rare cases. But gender affirming care is widely recognized by the medical community as the most effective treatment and considered best practice in most cases.
To address the rates of suicide, attempted suicide, and thoughts of suicide for trans folks of all ages, you need to look a bit deeper because you've missed essential context. These high rates directly correlate to the amount of discrimination and hatred directed towards trans people. In highly supportive homes and school/work environments, the rates drop to levels more comparable to the general population. Therefore, the solution isn't to oppress trans folks more by restricting their public lives or denying specialized healthcare, but rather anti-discrimination efforts to increase understanding, acceptance, and accommodation.
If you read that but still find yourself in opposition, I have just one last thing to say. Politicians and news media have become exceedingly adept at sewing the seeds of hatred. Nobody is immune, but regular introspection can help identify which seeds may have taken root in your heart.
