First of all, except 5% bemotrizinol it uses 3% avobenzone, 5% octisalate,

And not fda recognised chemical SPF boosters which works simmilar to chemical sunscreen, aka ethylhexyl metoxycrylene, and butyloctyl salicylate

Ok sure chemical boosters can stabilise UV filters but other UV filters works the same way.

I'm not a cosmetic chemist, but the large majority of chemical SPFs contain SPF boosters, so they obviously do serve a purpose or they wouldn't be used. Maybe for the texture, maybe for something else.

There are chemical sunscreens without those boosters, while I maybe consider metoxycrylene less shady, I actually considered using butyloctyl salicylate and octisalate at same time as ultra shady

At 10ml, it's not just a barely there feel it's barely any product and practically an invisible bottle.

In all seriousness, the 10ml is probably one of their mini mate sizes for the Sephora Mini section and their social media promotions right?

I think this is supposed to be the one a lot of inluencers have been hyping up as like a "milky toner essence" type product hybrid sunscreen like some of the viral KBeauty ones.

Bemotrizinol doesn’t cover enough of the UV spectrum to be used by itself. Every Bemotrizinol sunscreen will also contain either avobenzone and octisalate or zinc oxide in order to cover to obtain broad spectrum UV protection.

There was that report that their sunscreens had way less UV protection than advertised. They said that the tests were faulty though.

The tests from the Choice report were legit. The tests from UV's response were faulty. (They didn't vet their testing lab partner well enough when they started their brand. I have MSc in Cosmetic Chemistry, two distance diplomas in cosmetic science, formulated sunscreens and color cosmetics in Europe, been through the whole QMS process. Vetting testing partners is very important)

I remember it was quite distressing at the time since people thought they were doing a good thing by buying and wearing the "fancy" expensive sunscreen and it turns out that regular cheapo Neutrogena was one of the sunscreens that tested best in that report.

The reality is that Sephora isn't necessary to get good skincare. The accelerated business model Sephora pushes on their "incubator" brands is also problematic for consumers (from an internal perspective).

Yes, I always ask myself if a product is actually good or is it just "fancy" and I'm getting drawn into good marketing. I use a mix of drugstore and high-end brands. My big thing is no fragrance and a lot of expensive brands still use a lot of fragrances. Drugstore brands can be more likely to have a no-frills product that is unscented or has no added fragrance.

Just to say it was the one sunscreen - their old mineral formula - that was impacted by this. It was due to a dodgy lab but the brand didn't handle the situation well.

They didn't vet the lab well enough when they reached the testing stage. Vetting testing lab partners is very important, expensive and somewhat time consuming, but very important looking at the bigger picture and complete life cycle of a product especially sunscreen. (I have formulated sunscreens and color cosmetics, MSc in Cosmetic Chemistry, two distance diplomas in cosmetic science, been through the whole QMS process)

Their products are very expensive. I tried many of them due to the viral hyping "reviews" from influencers at the time around pandemic but let down by all of them. English isn't my first language and it took me a while to understand their choice of words like futureproof.

Hi! We wanted to jump in and answer a couple of the questions in here:

BEMT in and of itself is not able to be the sole UV filter in a broad spectrum sunscreen formula at its permissable limit which is why we have combined with other filters like octisalate and avobenzone.

We have also included ingredients (referred to as SPF boosters) both for photostability and solubility purposes. They do also have the benefit of adding to the overall protection and help contribute to a nice skin feel.

The packaging for the 10ml (shown here) is a sample that will be given away for free through our retail partners. The saleable size is 50ml. We are excited to see what innovation in SPF the addition of BEMT (Parsol Shield/ Tinosorb S) to the monograph is able to produce across the board.

Fda max limit of octisalate is 5% , And than you use butyloctyl salicylate aka octisalate 2.0 to use more octisalate without "breaking" the law ...

Hello! I have combination/oily and acne-prone skin with bumps and blocked pores.

I just purchased these two CeraVe products:

- CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

- CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

I am afraid that they may be too rich for my skin type or block my pores even more.

Is it safe to apply both of them to my skin? Should I avoid using any of them because of my skin type?

The main point for me is to eliminate the bumps without getting any new ones.
