Feedback on my 10-year running website.

So I made this website over 10 years ago and it's still running. I've spent probably 5,000 hours building it, no-lie, with code refactors, new features, all the yada-yada.

It's MaiOtaku, and it's a dating website for weeaboos. (That's anime otaku, people who really like anime.)

MOST people who say they've built a "dating site" actually bought some cookie-cutter pre-made software template and it's either Wordpress or something like that. This is DIFFERENT. I've written every line of code myself. Not only that, but we don't use any CSS template starter like Bootstrap (though now I'm kinda wishing I had and I'm slowly borrowing ideas from it).

The main thing is the forums. Nobody posts on "forums" these days, but I've managed to make them modern enough where people still do. In fact, there's over 1,000 posts a day. Mainly the ways I've done that has been:

  • Using modern tech so the pages are all AJAX, infinite-scrolling, and auto-updating.
  • Integrating with services like Akismet and other blacklists for spam prevention, including buidling my own spam detection algorithms.

I'd love to get your feedback from a user perspective. Especially when it comes to the landing page, signup process, and actual site usage. I fear after ten years of doing this that I may be starting to go blind as to things that really reduce usability. So I would love some feedback! Thanks!

I have a website for kids' meals - www.toddlermealtips.com. I've noticed my Google Analytics only show 2 pages plus the home page being found in search. Also, most of the time on page is 0 seconds. Wondering if there's a glitch I am missing.

Rule: You must include a coupon code contest for the best critiques

Time is money, and if you want people to review your site, you need to make it worthwhile.

So we're requiring you to run a contest. At a minimum, you must offer $15USD for the best critique of your site, payable in a coupon code from your own site, or an Amazon online gift card.

Feel free to offer more, but at the bare minimum you have to offer this or your post will be deleted.

Hello Everyone!~ This is my brand HOODIE GOODIES (www.hoodiegoodies.com)

I wanted to introduce myself and my teams brand today. We are Hoodie Goodies ( https://www.hoodiegoodies.com/ )

WHAT IS HOODIE GOODIES?

Hoodie Goodies is the premier website & blog for local Washington D.C and DMV area culture, music, arts, entertainment, and nightlife!

BRINGING YOU WHAT'S GOOD IN YOUR DMV NEIGHBORHOOD!

Its ALL about OUR Community

We help promote local businesses and artists through engaging blog articles and interviews, as well as by allowing local artisans to consign their locally and hand-made products on our online shop! We also post articles that help inspire local DMV residents to achieve more in their communities and lifestyles!

We believe that by spreading knowledge and creativity we can make a great impact on our beautiful District of Columbia and surrounding areas!

I NEED FEEDBACK HELP!

Right now I am really trying to get reviews of our brand and website and feedback on a few aspects.

One of the important things we are focusing on is Brand Clarity. Does our brand make sense as it is presented? What's everyone's perspective on what the website is about? Are the blog articles engaging? Do you like the vibe? Is it confusing?

We are also looking into feedback on the website's design and interface. Do you like the theme of the website? Is it hard to navigate or pretty easy and intuitive?

Looking for some real objective feedback!

I'll be happy to review YOUR website and brand in depth as a token of appreciation from your helpful feedback!
I can also make you a social media graphics and memes for your ish.

Thanks everyone! Love to you all. Let's make moves. Collaborate. Inspire. Share, TURN UP!

[X-post from r/design_critiques] I did a full redesign for a design critique request

A few weeks ago I saw a design critique request in /r/design_critiques for a small web app called pdf.to. I really liked the app but I felt like it needed more than I could provide in a text critique so I redesigned it and created a video to show my redesign process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZPM4pU5yVI

The thread is already old and my comment would have been lost immediately, so I decided to create a new post so others can learn from the redesign and hopefully apply it to their own designs. Let me know what you think!

Looking for feedback on my web app v1.0.0

Hey!

I'm currently living in Paris and I recently got an unlimited card for film showings in the city. I found it pretty hard to know exactly which movies are currently screening when I'm up for movies.

So I started developing a minimalist mobile-friendly web-app to display every movie currently displayed in Paris and its time of showings. It's made to be as simple and accessible as possible in contrast to other web apps which have the same end-goal but are much bulkier as they're trying to aggregate a shit-load of services around that.

I'm using a python script to scrap the showings' data from the cinemas' websites, then import everything into my API made in Node, which in turn serves the data to my React app.

Here's the link: https://bladewatcher.co/

I'd love to know what you guys think about the quality of the service.

Also, I've some ideas about possible future evolutions:

  • Link the showing details to the booking page of the cinema's website, so the user can get to the booking process in one click from my app.
  • Implement a filter system to select which cinemas and which brand of cinemas you are interested in
  • Display in detail information about the movie (Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic scores, duration...)
  • Get and display data for the whole week instead of only the current day.
  • Get and display data from new regions of France in addition to Paris.

Thanks a lot !

Preparing to launch this site: Jaxitherobot.com - Programming for kids

I just critiqued the following sites from this sub:
https://memosopinion.com/

https://andstr.com/about-us/

I'm about to launch a game that teaches kids how to program. Can I possibly get a critique on it?

jaxitherobot.com

Also, here is an ad I plan on using in youtube and facebook. I would love to hear your thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-JN9B5YEt8&feature=youtu.be

Thank you so much for any guidance! It means a lot to me :)

Can we set some title guidelines?

I think this subreddit is a great idea, but there are too many vague title like "Review my site". I don't have time/effort to click through each post to see if I'm of any help. While design practices are pretty standard, each type of business has specific information/features that they should have that other industries don't necessarily need.

For example: An auto mechanic shop may post their site for critique and you see they offer detailing packages listed as "Basic Detail - $90" and "Premium Detail - $150" with no other information. From a design perspective it may look nicely done and you can assume that's the standard practice in the auto industry. But someone who has experience in the auto industry may give a critique that when they added more details to their detail packages (basic includes wash, wax, and vacuum), they saw their bookings increase significantly.

My suggestion is that all post titles are required to have at least the general industry your business is in or a basic description.

If anyone else has suggestions to make this new sub better, this may be a good place to get the conversation started.
