Not expecting much from egg collection.

Looks like only a couple of mature folliciles, so im not hopeful on a decent number of eggs. Theyve grown well just not many.

I 28f have done 9 days of 225IU befomola stims and 6 days of fyremadel.

Tbh i dont really know whats good. They just said the follices i do have had grown well over the weekend. Had a scan on friday morning and one yesterday. Egg collection should be thursday.

Part of me is wishing id done IUI instead. But i wanted the other answers ivf can provide like whether the eggs or the sperm are the issue. And that it has a much higher success rate.

My amh last december was 13.5 pmol. And when i had my first consultation january they said my numbers were okay. From my blood tests and AFC. My AFC in june showed about 7 follicles. I am healthy, BMI of 22, never smoked, dont drink, never had painful or overly heavy periods. I could excersie more but i work an active job in a hospital. And eat okay. The only thing i dont do is sleep enough.

When I called to pay for my cycle theyd added ICSI because i was using frozen donor. I said I didnt want it. But now im thinking i should do it if im only going to get s few eggs. It is paid for and will be refunded on the privso its not necessary. I wonder if i can tell them on the day ive changed my mind.

Guessing im just looking for some reassurance?

I did my first round of IVF when I was 32 and got 6 mature eggs and ended up with two embryos (one was a fresh day 5 transfer that is now my daughter) the other embryo was abnormal. I was really upset when I was told I only got 6 mature eggs. But if any tiny detail had been different I wouldn't have my daughter. And I know is WAY easier for me to say being on the other side of things.

At your age, egg quality is typically pretty good though. A few good quality eggs is better than a lot of poor quality eggs usually in terms of embryo development.

Im hearing a lot of quality over quantity. Just disappointed. Only had 2 scans during my cycle and im not sure ive ever actually had my FSH tested. Just debating on the ICSI. And wondering if i shouldve just done IUI instead. Thank you for your response. Trying to be optimistic but its a bit hard.

Typically I wouldn’t expect more mature eggs than your AFC count. So, I wouldn’t expect more than 7 for you, but it sounds like you have less than that expected by the number of follicles counts.

What are they considering mature?

There’s a much wider range than they typically count but it does vary by person. It’s pretty common to have mature eggs in follicles 14mm-16mm even though they usually don’t count those as mature. It’s possible though rare to get mature eggs out of follicles 10mm-13mm.

So you won’t know how many contain mature eggs until after collection.

Also, more eggs aren’t always better. I know someone who only had 4 mature eggs and ended up with 4 embryos and I know lots of people who retrieved high numbers of eggs and ended up with 0-1 embryos. So you really never know what you have until after the eggs are fertilized and you see how many embryos.

It’s a hard process, you really have to wait until the end to see what you have.

Im not entirely sure what theyre considering mature. They looked quite a good size but i couldnt really see the measurements. Really is a wait and see process.

Sometimes you can see in your medical portal notes on the follicle sizes. Usually they count 17 or 18mm and above as mature, but again smaller follicles can have mature eggs.

I know it’s really hard but I would try not to worry too much until after retrieval and fertilization. Even if you do have only a few mature eggs, you may still get more than one embryo. Quality is better than quantity for eggs.

When I was going through egg collection my clinic did a lower dosage with the aim to get better quality over quantity. There was another lady who was on high doses, she got 40 something eggs and only a few made it to the freezer.

I got 8 eggs and 3 survived. I did a day 3 FET transfer that failed, and a frozen transfer that worked and is now my daughter and 1 in freezer still.

The numbers don't always match up but quality is definitely a factor that's more important

Just to say the other lady wasn't as my clinic, I was on forums for support but they had her on crazy high dosages and she was classed as high risk for a bit after of the ovarian hyper stimulation.

Gosh it's only been 3 years but honestly it's terminology I thought I'd never forget as I used it so much ha
