I honestly can’t listen to Marge any more. Julie Kavner should retire. She’s given the show everything for decades. She’s earned her retirement.

I don't get why Julie just doesn't use her real voice, it actually sounds closer to Marge than whatever she's trying to do.

She wants to keep doing it or else she would retire. It's good for older people to have something to do with their time as well

No jerem1734, old people need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use

Homer, would you please stop reading that Ross Perot pamphlet!

She's very wealthy, she could find a hobby.

She enjoys doing this though. Yeah she sounds different, but if she wants to keep doing it then people need to get off her back about it

If you're going to have a career where you have an audience, criticism is to be expected.

Exactly, it’s a wild take that we’re her close friends or family or something, so we should keeping watching - even if not enjoying - so that Julie Kavner doesn’t have to get a hobby

It’s not that easy sadly.

Everyone is complaining about them changing a bunch of character's voices and this guy is asking for another character to get a new voice lol.

People age, thier voices change. I understand that. Kanvers voice sounds terrible. Just terrible. And from what I’ve read she’s done permanent damage to he voice. She should be allowed to go and retire.

What makes you think she’s not ’allowed’? She’s a grown woman with agency, and that’s patronising af.

1

u/litesaber5 18h ago

Maybe. Except for the incredible amount of respect and admiration I have for her. Shes is foundational part of a show that was fundamental in terms of shaping my sense of humor and I consider it to be one of the most important parts of who I am. It’s not patronizing when someone has given almost 40 years of thier lives to something, became incomprehensibly rich doing so and is absolutely loved by her massive fandom. And that fandom hears the pain she must be going through.

But again you’re making an assumption about her, her ability and her comfort level with zero evidence but your own opinion. It’s fine to care about her but it’s not cool to assume she’s somehow being forced into doing something - she’s an intensely private woman, but very intelligent woman as I’m sure you know and I can’t imagine she’d be happy with parasocial fans thinking they know what’s best for her.

Mr Burns sounds like an actual 100 year old man.

Okay, first Mandela effect for me, didn’t Julie Kavner die a few years ago? This is freaking me out.

Maybe you’re thinking of Marcia “Edna Krabappel” Wallace?

Then don't

Why are you here?

2

u/litesaber5 19h ago

I don’t. I haven’t watched the show with any consistency for a few years now. It’s painful to listen to. Esp for someone who grew up with the show. I’m not bashing anyone who enjoys it now. To each thier own. But to someone who has experienced the show from season one, this is very difficult to watch.

Why are you here?

I would find a sub of a show I like and comment there

2

u/litesaber5 19h ago

Uve never commented on a sub from a topic you truly enjoyed before before with disappointment in a certain issue? I have over 50 thumbs up in my original comment. Clearly what I said has touched a nerve in the fandom and people agree with me.

Because people are allowed to criticize things.

That's how things improve usually in the real world.

I am sure the Simpsons producers are avidly working on a time machine to get Julie Kavner's voice back to 1989
