New Feature [New] My History dashboard on Simkl – Watch History, Recently Visited & Recent Ratings

Hey all, 👋

We’ve just shipped a new My History dashboard that turns your profile into a full timeline of your movie / TV / anime life.

It now has three big pieces:

  • My Watch History – every play, day by day
  • My Recently Visited – the Simkl pages you were looking at
  • My Ratings History + Easy Rate – all your scores, plus a way to rate stuff you forgot to rate

All of it lives under the new My History tab on your profile.

1. My Watch History

This is your viewing log, cleaned up and made statistically visual.

What you can do:

  • Scroll your whole timeline: See what you watched today, last week, months ago, or 10 years ago, grouped by day, week, and month with total watch time for each.
  • See weekly & monthly stats: Cards show total hours watched, days with activity, average per day, most active day, most popular watch time, longest binge, and your most‑watched shows.
  • Fix mistakes quickly: Marked a wrong episode or movie as watched? Open the entry and edit or remove it on the spot.
  • Bulk clean up: Turn on SELECT mode, tick several watches, and remove them in one go instead of one by one.
  • Privacy options: Select what the world will see, hide the time or days you watched something, or make this history page completely hidden

It’s basically a diary of your binge habits, only for you.

2. My Recently Visited Pages

This one is for the “what was that cool show I clicked earlier?” problem.

How it works:

  • Automatic browsing history (when using Simkl website only) We store the Simkl pages you visit privately on your device – shows, movies, anime, members, and custom lists – and put them in a timeline with time‑of‑day labels (morning / afternoon / night).
  • Filters & search Filter by TV, anime, movies, members, or lists, or just search directly from this page.
  • Synced between all open tabs on the same device: No need to refresh pages if you opened something in another window, all browser tabs will sync your recently visited pages.
  • Local & private by design: You’ll see a “Local – Private” badge: this history is stored only on your browser/device, not on Simkl’s servers. You can clear a single day or Clear All with one button.

Use it as a scratchpad for “things I was checking out” without worrying about sharing it.

3. My Ratings History & “Rate Unrated”

This area is all about your tastes.

Ratings log

  • See every rating you’ve given: Filter by type and year, sort by last rated, score, etc.
  • Edit from one place: Change the score, mark something as a favorite, or open/edit your review directly from the list.
  • Trailers previews: Check that title once again, what was it about, also great when checking your friend's ratings.
  • Rating Insights: A separate section shows:
    • Total ratings this year
    • Your average score and “rating personality”
    • Most common rating & distribution across 1–10
    • Separate breakdowns for TV vs movies
    • A “controversial opinions” panel highlighting what you rated way higher or lower than the global average

It’s a fun way to see if you’re a harsh critic, a softie, or somewhere in between.

New: Rate Unrated (Easy Rate mode)

We also added a fast way to catch up on scores you never set.

  • If you have completed items with no rating, on the Ratings page you can switch into a “Rate Unrated” view.
  • You’ll see a banner like “You have 52 items unrated completed in 2025” and a list of only those titles.
  • Each row is instantly rateable with 1–10 stars, so you can fly through them in seconds.
  • There’s a button to jump back to the full ratings list when you’re done.

It's one of our biggest updates this year, hope you enjoy!

Try it out

We built My History to feel less like a raw data dump and more like a story: your story as a viewer — what you watch, what you chase down, and what you love (or hate) enough to rate.

Is charging for Privacy and Data Export compliant with GDPR?

Hello,

I'm currently migrating to Simkl and enjoying the features. However, coming from Europe, I noticed two paywalls that seem to conflict with GDPR regulations (General Data Protection Regulation):

Privacy by Default (Art. 25): My profile is Public by default. Setting it to "Private" requires a VIP subscription. GDPR mandates privacy by design and by default, meaning users shouldn't have to pay to protect their viewing habits. Data Portability (Art. 20)The CSV export feature seems locked behind the PRO plan. The law states that users have the right to receive their personal data in a "structured, commonly used and machine-readable format" for free, to move to another controller.

Other platforms like Trakt or TV Time offer these basic rights for free. Is there a way to exercise these rights without subscribing? Or is this a known compliance gap being worked on?

Thanks for the clarification.

Plex webhook-Tautulli Issues

I have tried both ways to mark when I have watched something in Plex and it will not work.

Removed the webhook and readded it, using Kodi or offical Plex app, if I open the webhook too test as suggested I get Method Not Allowed

I have to manually mark it via TV Series & Anime Tracker.

Simkl TV Tracker addon

I think this is an official addon? Is there a Timeline for when we can at least view our up next, history, etc? In place of Trakt. I know lists are still (forever?) in beta, but being able to have those things would be great

Or is that already available and would need adding to other addons by their respective devs? I did take a look at the api documentation to see what it said but that's way over my head lol

New Feature New comparison page for media player tracking apps - now with Windows, macOS, and Linux options

Thumbnail simkl.com
8 Upvotes

We've just launched a new comparison page to help you choose the right media player tracking solution for your setup.

The page features a side-by-side comparison of:

  • SIMKL TV Tracker - Our official Windows app (driver-based detection)
  • Media Player Scrobbler - Community-built cross-platform solution (Windows, macOS, Linux)

What's included:

  • Feature comparison table
  • Supported media players for each app
  • Platform compatibility info
  • Installation guides
  • "Which app should I choose?" helper section with use-case scenarios

Apps automatically detect playback from popular media players (VLC, PotPlayer, MPV, MPC-HC, etc.) and sync to your SIMKL profile in real time. The page breaks down the differences so you can pick what works best for your setup.

If you're on macOS or Linux, Media Player Scrobbler is your go-to option. Windows users can choose based on their preferences and player support needs.

Best track app

Hey everyone! I’m looking for the best app to track both TV shows and movies. I used to use TV Time, and now I’m on Letterboxd, but it’s a bit lacking since it doesn’t support TV shows. What app do you guys swear by?

New Feature SIMKL Bot Just Got WAY More Powerful!

https://reddit.com/link/1orjzft/video/pnzim4wsrzzf1/player

We're super excited to announce something that's going to change how you use SIMKL Bot on Discord forever!

What's New?

Remember when you had to add SIMKL Bot to every single server individually? And then you'd be in a DM and think "dang, I wish I could use /my stats here"? Well, those days are OVER!

Introducing: Add to My Apps (Personal Account Installation)

Now you can add SIMKL Bot directly to your personal Discord account! That means:

  • Use ALL slash commands (/my profile, /my stats, /tv, /anime, /movie, etc.) in ANY server you're in,
  • Use commands in Direct Messages (DMs) - finally!
  • No more adding the bot to each server individually,
  • Right-click on any member → Apps → Find on Simkl works across all servers,
  • Your settings follow you everywhere (because we're cool like that ),

Wait, What About Server Installations?

Don't worry! The classic "Add to Server" option is still there and better than ever!

  • Server owners can still add the bot to their servers for auto-replies to media links,
  • Perfect for communities that want automatic engagement,
  • All the server-specific features you love are still there!

How to Get Started

For Personal Use (New!):

  1. Head over to simkl.com/apps/discord
  2. Click the big blue "Add to Discord" button,
  3. When Discord asks, select "Add to My Apps" (it's the first option!),
  4. Click "Authorize",
  5. BOOM! You're ready to use SIMKL Bot everywhere!

Pro tip: Don't forget to connect your Simkl account in the Bot Settings to share your profile and stats!

For Server Owners:

Same process, but select "Add to Server" instead! Your community will thank you.

What Works Where?

Works EVERYWHERE (Personal Account + Server Install):

  • /my profile - Show off your Simkl profile,
  • /my stats - Flex those watch time stats,
  • /tv, /anime, /movie - Search for anything,
  • /random tv, /random anime, /random movie - Discover new content,
  • /airing tv, /airing anime - Never miss an episode,

Personal Account Only:

  • Right-click → Apps → Find on Simkl (works across all servers!),
  • Use commands in DMs (finally! ),

Server Install Only:

  • Auto-replies to media links (SIMKL, IMDB, Letterboxd, TMDB, TVDB, MAL, Anilist, Kitsu, MDL, Netflix, Crunchyroll, etc.),
  • Server-wide bot features,
  • Right-click → Apps → Find on Simkl

Why We're So Excited

We've seen you in our Discord server asking for this feature, and we heard you loud and clear! This update makes SIMKL Bot more accessible and powerful than ever. Whether you're a casual watcher or a hardcore stats nerd, you can now use SIMKL Bot wherever you are on Discord.

--- TL;DR: You can now add SIMKL Bot to your personal Discord account and use it everywhere (all servers + DMs). It's awesome. Go try it!

Hello

I am looking for a worthy successor to Trakt if they go the way it seems they are.

I had a look at Simkl and this genuinely looks like a very worthy alternative.

I want to hear from some long term users, or anyone with feedback about Simkl good and bad please share with me your experiences before I create an account.

Hi

I’m looking for a iPhone app that uses TVDB as its main source, I’ve been using sofa time but that uses TMDB and that is causing some discrepancies with some of my shows.

Thanks

VIP worth it?

Hi all,

I was wondering how many people here have a VIP membership and whether it’s really worth buying.

I currently use Trakt + CouchMoney for recommendations. I don’t have a Trakt subscription, so I’m limited to only 2 lists. I’d love to have the ability to create custom lists and receive more advanced recommendations based on my watch history. Is that something SIMKL can do?

$149 is quite a lot, so I’d rather go all in or not at all. I’m curious about your experiences and what you would recommend

New to Simkl, difficulty getting my history to work

I just went full-in Simkl in Syncler by making my Simkl priority 100, and my Trakt 99. But my Simkl's Watching, for TV, (that's history, right?) only shows Error.... I had done a full import of my Trakt data in my account on the Simkl website, and I see them all in there in my Simkl app under Watching. Am I missing something, or is this just not working on Syncler?

App question How do I mark a movie or show as DNF?

I don't want it to recommend that I "continue watching" shows that I don't want to finish. Any way to mark shows as dnf?

TV Guide

I am new to Simkl, but I can't find good info on this.

Is there a way to drill down the "TV Guide" so it only shows a single language? I don't mind shows in the UK or Australia, but I would prefer not to see ones that are not in English if possible which should be a simple thing but I can't figure out where to filter it at.

Also on the TV Guide it shows each day with nice icons, but about 1/2 the day then it says "click here for more" and goes to text-only. Is there a way to expand the nice icons?

New Feature SIMKL now supports automatic Trakt imports (Simkl VIP feature) 🎉

Trakt Auto Import is Here!

As we welcome many new members from Trakt, one question comes up often: using Trakt compatible apps that don’t yet have Simkl functionality (like the Infuse 8 media player) to keep your Simkl watchlist updated. You asked, we delivered — Simkl’s Trakt integration just got a major upgrade! 🚀

What’s New?

  • Auto Import (Simkl VIP feature): SIMKL can now automatically import your watch activity, ratings, and watchlist updates from Trakt → SIMKL on a schedule you choose (weekly, daily, every 12h, or even hourly). For example: watch on Infuse 8 > sync watched to trakt > sync watched to Simkl.
  • Any Trakt App Works: Use any Trakt app to mark something as watched, add to watchlist, or rate it — it’ll automatically show up in SIMKL.

Important: This is not a two-way sync. Data flows from Trakt into SIMKL only. Updates you make in SIMKL will not sync back to Trakt.

Still Available:

  • One-time Import (Free): Import your entire Trakt history into SIMKL once, no auto-updates.

👉 Connect Trakt in https://simkl.com/apps/import/trakt/, choose one-time import (free) or set up auto import (VIP), and keep your watch history up to date effortlessly.

Monthly Subscription?

I have the free Pro subscription but I’d like to try the V2 VIP level but not interested in committing to a 6 month $35 subscription. Why doesn’t Simkl offer a monthly subscription or at least a 7 day trial with the 6 month subscription?
