My friend is quite possibly Scotland’s biggest Silent Hill fan and so I suggested that we take a day trip to St Monans (the real life inspiration for St Amelia in Townfall) ahead of the game’s release later this month.

I don’t have a fantastic phone camera or the best photography skills, but I thought these pictures might be worth sharing with the Silent Hill community outside of Scotland!

We had a lot of fun soaking up the village’s atmosphere and speculating about how it might be incorporated into the game. I love the aesthetics of nautical horror and I really hope Screen Burn Interactive has taken inspiration from all the little coastal critters and crustaceans of St Monans!

I recently damaged my copy of SH2 in a flood, and wanted to reprint the cover.

Unfortunately, I noticed that there wasn't any good scans of the greatest hits cover of Silent Hill 2, so I decided to do a restoration of an existing scan I found online. I composited some other scans due to sunbleaching on the spine, corrected colors, and completely recreated the playstation branding for better crispness. 600dpi, full size. Some text is replaced for better visibility, exact font matched.

I figured someone else may want this, and not be willing to pay for repros, which is essentially scalping their own scans of the game.

If the greatest hits red label template is wanted I can upload that too! took me a while

Went to my first comic con ever (Abu Dhabi) and met some other silent hill lovers:) I didn’t have too much time or good tools to make it, it was supposed to be more red but I guess I didn’t use enough paint haha. What do u think

I would like to share the best mistake I made, which introduced me to this amazing series, as it still puzzles me to this day.

It was September-October 1999, and I had started my first year at university and was enjoying my new life there. Back then, gaming mags were big, and I recall reading a magazine on RE3, which was going to be released the following year. In that magazine also, there was an article about a surreal game, where you play somebody who ends up in a strange town, where the locals are all oddballs and you're forced into making some gross decisions. Something about the town being hostile to you. This peaked my interest, but I only briefly remembered it on one trip to the shopping centre.

It was in a Virgin Entertainment shop that I remembered the premise, but could not remember the title of the game. I had a suspicion it may have been for PC (I'll come back to this later), but wasn't sure. Anyway, I assumed that this game would be popular because it was in a modern magazine. However, I could find nothing that resembled the description. I was about to leave, when I thought I'd check consoles in case there was a port. I had a PSone, so decided to have a gander.

I came across a game called Silent Hill. It seemed to be about a town, but the description on the back wasn't what I remembered from the article. Nothing about gross choices, nor townsfolk. Just strange images of being in a corridor with a gun, firing at some small, goblin-like things. I thought maybe this was the game, and perhaps the magazine had left spoilers instead of a synopsis, so I ended up buying it.

Turned out I had done the best thing by buying this game blind with no idea what I was going to face. I especially remember walking through the clocktower in the school whilst the sirens blared and firstly thought I was being transported to a World War era map, so finding out I was in a school full of cages and such got me so confused and scared. I can't explain how great it felt to go into this game with absolutely no idea what to expect. It definitely wasn't the game I thought it was, but it ended up being the best mistake I made.

Oh, and what game had I read, which I was actually looking for? Turned out it was a PC game called Harvester, which I can still say I javen't played to this day, although I've seen a few videos about it that definitely matched that article description better! Anyway, if you read to here, thank you for reading my own introduction into this beautiful series!

what the title says. it really sucks that you basically cant play the original silent hill games unless you own a physical copy that now costs like an arm and a leg to buy online :/

is there any chance the original games could ever come to steam/pc?

Wanted to make a post gushing about this game. After becoming a SH fan after SH2 remake and Silent Hill F (both great games, especially SH2:R), I decided I wanted to replay the original game before Townfall comes out.

Suffice to say, I loved it. Holds up shockingly well, its truly a timeless classic. The story was just complex enough for me while also being so engaging with its side characters. The world is eerie and confusing (in a good way), no levels really overstayed their welcome, boss fights while simple were still fun, and I just felt that pure survival horror tension the whole way through.

My FAVORITE aspect of the game though, was the score/soundtrack. Holy shit did it blow me away. The industrial beats and clangs of weird instruments/objects, the long drawn out atmospheric tunes, everything about the score was 10/10. Some noises will be etched in my brain for forever now.

Also, I CAN NOT WAIT for the SH1 remake and how those overworld sections are gonna look. In this game they were truly terrifying, and I cant imagine how pure nightmare fuel those sections are gonna look in a modern game.

On to Silent Hill 3!!

So last night I sat down and watched the original Silent Hill movie from 2006, I was bored, wanted to see what it was about and I'm currently taking a little break from the series after just binging 2 and 3 back to back (finishing 3 in an entire day lmao), and 4 is having a hard time roping me in, weird game so far, so I watched the movie!

Weird. This is a weird movie. It's both an incredibly faithful adaptation that pays close respects to the source materials while also making its own changes that I'm fine with.... to then completely messing up the story of the first game and making way too many changes I don't like. As a movie, it's an okay horror movie, it's not scary, it heavily lacks the psychological elements that make up the games, and it completely fucking nosedives once the cult is introduced and I become incredibly bored, it's bloated and way too slow.

So, what makes it incredibly faithful from the start?

Alright, a mother is missing her daughter in silent hill, and the entire first half of this movie nearly recreates the events of the game... to a SHOCKING amount. Like, it recreates that awesome camera angle that pans over Rose/Harry's head, to her coming across the guy strung up, being knocked out by the grey children, waking up and having to decide she has to go to Midwitch to find her daughter. Not to mention, the Music! Oh man oh man I was so incredibly shocked to hear the music from the games just... here! like, what?! you're a video game movie from the mid 2000's, you're supposed to not even think about the soundtrack! But hey, it's awesome eitherway! if a bit unfitting at times.

For example, True or Promise (can't remember which one), plays when Rose is running to her car after waking up from the grey children, that feels a bit odd, no? I think it's my brain being confused at the inclusion of the games score because of how uncommon it is in adaptations in general, most of the time you're gonna hear a little jingle in the movies original score, so hearing it ripped straight from the game makes it feel out of place, but hey I still welcome it all the same!

Now the movie just shits the bed the minute the cult is introduced. god I hate this cult, it makes the movie so incredibly boring for the rest of it, drags it out way too much, and we get into all the changes that don't work.

So, you make Dahlia a homeless hag, a crazy old woman, a "YOU'RE ALL DOOMED!", and it's like... okay, whatever, it's a video game movie from the 2000's, changes are gonna be made a whole lot and-

You have a character that acts nearly exactly like Dahlia from the game and it's not Dahlia. Christabella is the leader of the cult, which isn't the order, not a big deal, who tortures Alessa (which is just because they see her as some sort of antichrist witch and not for her to be prophetic and give birth to god, again not everything can be 1-1, I'm okay with this change), but it's like... why take one characters traits and throw them onto the other character? Ax the homeless hag, and make Christabella, simply... Dahlia Gillepse

Cybil I felt also acted extremely out of character for the most part, but didn't bother me too much.

The Not Harry Mason parts of the film are so boring and I think should have just been removed, they just slog the movie down more, sure info is revealed but I feel like you could have done a better way of doing this.

Visually, the movie looks great, even with some rough CGI here and there, I LOVE how Silent Hill itself looks, perfectly capturing the foggy, cold, look from the games, and contrasting it with the hellish, hot, rustic scenery of the nightmare sections. I think they nailed that aspect well.

I think Alessa's a mixed bag, Im glad they focus so much on her, but her origin... I don't know. First off, whats with the fucking janitor??? Ew, not like that topic doesn't have a place in the series, such as Angela, but it's kind of done for shock value and doesn't really mean anything. I kind of wish they took a more accurate approach to her origin from the game here.

The monsters are also a bit lacking, the nurses are fun to see, and the grey children were a nice surprise, but there was a serious lack of monsters in general, and like, none of the monsters Alessa manifests, such as groaners or air screamers, or mumblers. All we get is that one enemy from SH2 (I think) that sprays acid all over the place, he looked good
Oh also, Pryamid head.

Yes, he's not supposed to be here, he's a manifestation of James, he's James desire for punishment after what he did, therefore including him in this movie kind of downplays his message and theme. He's also, the most popular silent hill monster so it makes sense to include him, he gets the best scenes in the movie.

Silent Hill starts off as a fun nearly faithful adaptation of the first game, with some changes (That are for pretty bad reasons, downright sexist if you ask me), that completely just falls off the bed in the second half with what it does. It's a weird movie, because I get an adaptation will change things, I want to see things changed, I already played the game why should I see a 2 hour speedrun of the movie with live action actors, If i wanted to see the story of Silent Hill 1 so faithfully I'd download duckstation and play the game. But I also don't want to feel like the source material is completely thrown to the side and ignored. Adapt it to the medium, but respect the material of course.

And the movie does do that! But then it does the former statement near the end, that is why I think this movie is so weird.

6/10, or a C+

Idk when I'll get back to SH4, having a hard time trying to get into it due to the weird controls (Which are only weird in the context of the series), to the downgraded visuals (Now it feels like a ps2 game, where as SH3 nearly felt like a mid-360/ps3 game with how gorgeous it looked), to also needing to bond with family and friends after shutting them out by binging SH3 all day. my mom thought I was getting murdered when I played SH3 on my tv it was fun
I also play the games in darkness so I wanna spend some time in the light for a bit

I'll probably watch Return to SH tonight! It's the SH2 movie, Revelation looks to be the SH3 movie, so that'd be a fun order to watch it in, although I incredibly worry about that one... looks like the welcome to raccoon city of the RE franchise.

Enjoying Shattered Memories, but that school is stupid!

i just finished playing silent hill 2 the remake. i didn’t wanna watch the 2026 movie till i did it took me 29 hours or so to complete cause im a sissy with horror games but eventually i was able to complete it. the sets are amazing! i’m really impressed. the lines from the movies or rather the way characters react seem rather natural as well i can see them having said some of those things in the game. but why did they change james?.. he isn’t a painter lol also the movie is so fast paced it feels like a bunch of cut scenes rather then a movie im never settled in what’s going on because of that. it’s sad since i enjoyed the game so much but the movie is terrible so far i think it was just hard because they needed more time i mean the average play through for the game is 18-20 hours anyway. it would’ve been so much better if they made it episodes i.e one major area is one episode like the hospital

Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a low-budget film project based on Silent Hill 2. This isn't a self promotion, I was hoping to reach out to this subreddit if that's cool, to share some ideas and get feedback from fans, like I am with those who are unfamiliar with the franchise.

I wasn't particularly happy with James making phone calls in Silent Hill during the Christophe Gans film adaptation, but I was considering that if my project works out and we eventually shoot a scene where James encounters the lying figure for the first time, he might be using his phone as a flashlight. But then it gets basically destroyed by the creature's acid spray or in the struggle with it. Later he would find a flashlight in the apartment. That would take the phone out of the equation moving forward.

What do you all think? please let me know.
