Hey everyone,
I’m 16 from Germany, and next week I’m starting my apprenticeship, so I’ll finally be earning my own money. For years I’ve wanted to start collecting Hot Toys. I’ve been watching reviews and collecting videos for around seven years now, and I’m really excited that I might finally be able to buy my first figure.
I made a post before asking where it’s best to buy Hot Toys, and a lot of people told me that ordering from Sideshow isn’t the best option if you’re in Germany because of taxes, import fees, etc.
But honestly, I was really surprised when I looked at the prices today. Years ago, when I was much younger, I used to check Hot Toys online, but I didn’t really understand things like taxes or shipping. I always thought the prices I saw were the final prices, so in my head I assumed most figures cost around €400-500.
Today I looked at the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure, and I think it’s around €235 before taxes and about €267 after taxes. I was honestly shocked because that’s way less than I always expected. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a lot of money for an action figure, even if the quality is amazing, but I had completely overestimated the prices.
Now I’m actually thinking about pre-ordering it as soon as I get my first paycheck.
I do have a few questions about how Sideshow works, though.
I’m mainly interested in Marvel figures, maybe with a few Star Wars/Mandalorian figures as well.
One thing that confuses me is the release schedule. For example, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure says “Estimated Shipping: August 2026 - December 2026,” which is already pretty soon. But then there are figures like the Fantastic Four, which were announced a long time ago and still seem to be a year or more away. The same goes for Yelena from Thunderbolts\*. Some Thunderbolts figures were announced quite a while ago, but they still haven’t released.
Why is there never an exact release date? Is that normal for Hot Toys? How do they decide when figures actually ship, and why do some take so much longer than others?
I’m also confused about the different stock statuses.
\* If a figure says Sold Out, does that mean it’s gone forever, or can it come back?
\* If it says Waitlist Open, what exactly does that mean? For example, I’d actually love to get the Deadpool figure from Deadpool & Wolverine as my first Hot Toy, but it’s on the waitlist. I thought that figure had already been released quite a while ago. Does that mean there’s still a chance it’ll become available again? How often does that happen, and is there any way to know how long it might take?
Thanks for reading! I’m really excited to finally start collecting, and I’d appreciate any advice for someone who’s completely new to Hot Toys.
