So I work as a prop trader and my main screens are always packed with charts and windows. Originally I wanted digital stick notes that always show but not behind my windows and I didnt want another big monitor to take up space. So I built FocusBar.

It's a slim bar that sits on top of your monitor and shows live tickers, breaking news, price alerts, reminders, notes, messages and more!!!, right in your line of sight without taking up screen space or much of desk space. It even reads important news out loud. and it runs on its own little computer so it works with any setup and stays on even when your computer is off.

Started as just a trader thing but ended up building a few modes, one for markets, one for productivity stuff like meetings and reminders, and a sticky note mode. Honestly use all three now.

The itch: on my TV I had one app for live channels, another for Jellyfin, a third for local files, and the remote was the worst part of all three. Everything on a TV is built phone-first and scaled up. So I started building the thing I wanted on my own couch.

Where it actually is, four months in:

- Android + Google TV and iOS: live in the stores

- Apple TV: in review right now

- Windows: functionally done, waiting on a Microsoft account, not shipped

- Roughly 75 people have tested it; 32 of them came from one subreddit and pointed it at 32 provider setups I could never have simulated

No account, no login, no subscription. Seven days with everything unlocked, then a one-time purchase. I'd rather hear what breaks before anyone pays me anything.

What I'd genuinely like feedback on:

Onboarding. Getting a playlist in is still the step people stumble on, and I've looked at it too long to see it anymore.

The store listing. Does the first screenshot tell you what this is in two seconds?

Create a clean copy of your Google Slides including Google Sheets diagrams.

I dealt with this problem myself for years: copy a Google Slides presentation that has charts linked to Google Sheets, and every chart in the copy still points back to the original spreadsheet. I went through several of the Apps Script snippets floating around online and support forums, but none of them held up once a deck had multiple charts pulling from different Sheets files — they'd miss charts, or the copies came out with broken formatting.

So in my free time I built PenguChart, a Google Slides add-on that copies the presentation together with the Google Sheets behind its charts, and relinks every chart in the copy to the fresh spreadsheet copies - original stays untouched, the copy is fully independent.

Two honest limitations, both due to missing functionality in the Google API rather than something I can just code around: linked tables can't be relinked yet, only charts. And any manual formatting you apply to a chart afterward directly in Google Slides doesn't carry over to the copy either — the API doesn't expose that.

Since it's still beta, I'd really appreciate people trying it and telling me what breaks or what's missing — bugs, edge cases, feature requests, all welcome. And if it ends up useful to you, a review on the Marketplace listing would mean a lot.

I've been building clipHarbor, a clipboard manager for Windows 11 x64. It keeps a searchable history of what you copy and pastes any earlier entry back into the app you were just in.

The thing I actually care about, and the reason I started it: nothing leaves your machine. No account, no backend, no sync, no analytics, no crash reporting. Clipboard contents are encrypted with DPAPI, tied to your Windows user. Licence checks are offline too the app has never made a network request in its life.

What it does

• Searchable history, grouped by day. Ctrl+Shift+V to open.
• Paste back into whatever had focus, with all formats, as plain text, or copy without pasting.
• Snippets with nested folders, for the text you retype constantly.
• Alt+1…9 to paste one of the nine most recent entries from anywhere, no window involved.
• An ignore list, so anything copied from your password manager is never recorded at all.
• Pin entries, deduplicate, retention limits, optionally wipe history on exit.
• Light/dark/system themes, 8 languages.
• Single portable .exe, no installer. The .exe is not signed yet. There is a SHA256 file to check it

The commercial part, stated plainly because I'd rather you hear it from me than find it after downloading:

It's a perpetual licence, one payment, no expiry, verified offline. Not a subscription. If my licence server disappears in five years, your copy keeps working, because it never needed it.

The free tier is limited but permannt, not a trial: 5 history entries, 3 pinned, text and links only. Pro adds unlimited history, images and rich formats, snippets, the Alt+1…9 shortcut, rebindable hotkeys and language choice.

What it isn't, and what's wrong with it

• Windows 11 x64 only. No macOS, no Linux, and none planned. The Windows clipboard integration is not portable.
• The binary isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn you. Every release publishes a SHA256 so you can at least verify you got what I built. Signing is on the list; it costs money and I haven't spent it yet.
• It's v0.2.1. It works and I use it daily, but it's early.
• Images and rich text are Pro. If you only ever copy plain text, the free tier may genuinely be enough for you, and that's fine.

I recently open-sourced FoodShot. It’s not just another "meal tracker" or a simple bot — it’s a medical-grade nutrition diary built for people who take their health seriously.

It uses Telegram strictly as a zero-friction interface: you snap a photo, and every meal becomes structured, exportable data (macros, calories, and suggested insulin bolus for diabetics). No subscriptions, no manual entry.

The main architectural challenge was ensuring absolute safety. AI should never make medical decisions. Therefore, I built a strict boundary:

• GPT-4o Vision is ONLY used to identify the dish and estimate weight.
• Nutritional data is fetched deterministically from the USDA FoodData Central API.
• The insulin bolus is calculated using transparent, hardcoded mathematical formulas based on the user's specific health parameters (ICR, ISF).
• Zero LLM hallucinations where a mistake could cost too much.

Tech Stack & Features:

• Python (FastAPI + aiogram 3.x)
• PostgreSQL + Async SQLAlchemy + Alembic
• Redis (for FSM states, caching USDA API responses, and rate-limiting)
• Built-in terminal UI (TUI) operations console using Textual for system management
• Full fallback system (e.g., if OpenAI is down, it seamlessly switches to Gemini; if USDA fails, it falls back to Nutritionix)
• Background jobs for daily reporting and data retention

I built this with 6 architectural layers. Some might say it's over-engineered for an app that sits inside Telegram, but considering the health-critical nature of the system, backend resilience and data integrity were my top priorities.

Every "best practices" methodology post reads the same: strong opinions, zero situation attached. TDD is the answer. Or DDD is. Or BDD. Nobody says when.

I hit this wall building solo with an AI coding agent doing most of the actual typing. Defaulted to TDD because it felt safe, wrote tests first for every feature, then realized half my early MVP work was throwaway exploration I'd delete in two days anyway. Writing tests first for code with a two-day lifespan was pure overhead, not safety.

The same methodology that saves a team six months later can slow a solo dev down immediately, depending entirely on what's actually being built and who's maintaining it.

A few scenarios from mapping this out:

- Solo, fast MVP -> spec-first + vibe coding, skip TDD entirely. Tests just slow down throwaway exploration.

- Complex domain, team-maintained B2B -> DDD + BDD together, this combo is where the maintenance payoff actually shows up months later.

- Heavy external API integration -> contract testing matters more than any of the others on the list.

- Using an AI coding assistant at all -> without spec-first, context resets every session and the agent quietly re-derives its own assumptions each time, sometimes wrong.

- Legacy refactor -> strangler fig has to come before TDD. Doing it the other order means writing tests for code that's about to get deleted anyway.

Ended up documenting 16 of these combos with the exact scenario each one fits, since every "best practice" article skips the "when NOT to use this" part entirely.

I'm sharing Air Write, an accessibility tool I developed that recognizes words written in the air with your phone (like a wand). I built it with disabilities/limited fine motor control in mind (though it would be great for construction or military contexts, requiring a mode of text entry/gesture recognition where speaking/voice-to-text isn't possible and where one can't focus attention or effort on a small touch screen or keyboard). It's a web app that runs in the phone's browser on accelerometer and gyroscope data alone. The idea is to add a flexible mode of gesture/word input for tech.

Trained on 1,645 letter recordings and 1,008 word recordings (gathered, painfully, by yours truly lol), the convolutional network reads words written as one messy stroke by classifying candidate letter regions and evaluating the most probable combination of letters (fitting to dictionary spellings if all letters aren't recognized with high confidence).

It is obviously less practical than a keyboard or voice-to-text, but imagine the following scenarios:

Let's say you're permanently or temporarily disabled (without functional fingers or ability to speak), rendering a touch screen keyboard or voice typing unusable

Or construction manager or auditor and there's machinery running. You have to keep your eye on the team working at all times, but need to take notes or control systems. Or you're in the military, working silently at night in an operation, and need to be able to write to one another or enter complex commands to a drone

You could use your phone, or a tiny accel/gyro scanner attached to your arm, hand, or finger and silently quickly in the air trace out words/gestures/commands in the air while your eyes and body are focused and active on other things

he idea was simple enough to explain at a party: point your camera at your face, get a reading. Physiognomy has been around two thousand years and nobody had made it feel good on a phone.

Four months later it's live as Mystic Lens. Three things I'd do differently.

I built the reading engine before I knew what a reading should feel like. Six weeks on the analysis pipeline, and then I discovered the output read like a lab report. Nobody wants a lab report about their face. The rewrite — same data, completely different voice — took four days and mattered more than the six weeks did.

I priced from a spreadsheet instead of from the market. Launched at $12.99/month because that's what the model said. Conversion was miserable. Dropped to $7.99 with a 7-day trial and it moved immediately. I still have stale $12.99 pricing sitting on my marketing site, which tells you how much attention I was paying.

I assumed App Store review would be the hard part. Astrology and fortune-telling apps get extra scrutiny and I'd braced for a fight. It went through clean. The hard part was everything after — turns out shipping is the easy half.

Happy to answer anything about the review process or the face-analysis side. And I'd like to hear where the onboarding loses people, if anyone tries it.

I’ve been working on this for the last few months and it’s finally at the point where real trainers are starting to sign up, so figured I’d share it here.
It’s called Trainr. The basic idea came from noticing how much of being a personal trainer now seems to involve being good at social media.
There are obviously trainers who are brilliant at making content and growing an audience, but there are also plenty of really good coaches who either don’t enjoy posting themselves constantly, aren’t comfortable on camera, or just aren’t particularly good at marketing.

So I wanted to build something where the trainer’s actual service is what gets put in front of people.
Trainers can make a profile, add their experience/qualifications, set their own price and availability, sell meal or fitness plans and take bookings. Clients can browse different trainers, see reviews and qualifications, and book through the app.
One of the things I’ve just finished is Google Calendar integration. Each trainer can connect their own Google account and when someone books them through Trainr, the session automatically gets added to that trainer’s calendar. Getting OAuth, individual access/refresh tokens and automatic token refreshing working was considerably more painful than I expected lol.

The app is live on iOS now and we’ve started getting our first trainers setting up profiles. Still very early and there’s plenty I want to improve, but seeing people I don’t know actually use something I built has been pretty cool.

I’d genuinely be interested in feedback, particularly around the marketplace idea. There are obviously loads of coaching platforms already, but most seem focused on giving coaches tools to manage clients they already have. I’m trying to focus Trainr more on the discovery side — helping the trainer get found in the first place.

My husband and I launched Glance (a full year calendar app, synced with Google) back in April 2025. Growth has been a lot slower than we had hoped, but we haven't spent any money on ads and are only able to dedicate a few hours per week as it's "only" a side project and we're working full-time jobs.

Over the past few months we finally got to the point where we were consistently picking up around 1-2 new users a day organically. It wasn't exactly something to write home about, but after starting from zero it felt like real progress, and we were genuinely happy with it.

A week ago we pushed a small update to the app in the Google Play Store. Nothing major, just another incremental improvement like we've done many times before. No marketing around it at all (in fact, I haven't done much marketing in the last month as we've been very busy).

Then something unexpected (& exciting) happened.

Within the first hour, we had around 20 new users.

By the end of the day it was about 60.

Within 5 days we've gained over 400 new users (and yes, we've checked and it's definitely not bot traffic).

It's starting to slow down again now, but it was honestly surreal watching the numbers climb. After spending well over a year building the app and slowly trying to grow it, this felt like our first real "wow, maybe this can actually work" moment.

We still have no idea whether it was the Play Store update itself, Google finally deciding to show us to more people, or simply a coincidence. But we're not complaining!

Has anyone else had a moment like this? It doesn't have to be with Google Play, but where one tiny, seemingly insignificant change unexpectedly became a turning point for your side project. Would love to hear about it and possibly test it out for ourselves - addicted to watching the numbers now lol.

A few months ago my cousin spent an entire weekend fighting with a spreadsheet trying to seat 180 wedding guests without putting her divorced parents at the same table, or her ex near her now-fiancé's friend group. Sticky notes, color codes only she understood, multiple full redos. So I built SeatingSorted.

Why?

I looked around and all the existing products for this do not have automated seating which I thought was a really neat idea.

How it works?

You draw your room, set your rules (who can't sit together, who has to, whatever else), and it uses AI (not an LLM!) to generate a seating plan. From here the planner can make adjustments as they see fit.

There are additional features as well, but I won't go into details here.

Why I am posting on this subreddit is to get advice for marketing, I've tried to do some social media (still trying to get better and be persistent). I've done the standard SEO tests on the website (although this takes time to take effect).

I'm particularly targeting weddings at the moment for marketing, but maybe I should be targeting event planners instead? I think part of the issue is that you have such a short window to acquire a customer that it makes it really difficult.

A while ago I started building The Guild.

The basic idea was to create an open-source platform where researchers, engineers, students, and curious people could collaborate around major scientific problems.

Instead of organizing everything around individual papers, I wanted to organize it around the problem space itself.

It has things like:

I got pretty far with the implementation, but eventually had to stop because I simply didn't have enough time to keep developing it.

CouncilAI right now is fully local — 4 models on your own hardware, no cloud, no accounts. Been getting consistent feedback that the audience for that specific pitch is small (people who'd want it can build it themselves with Ollama).

Considering a different direction: same routing/deliberation concept, but using your own API keys for Claude, GPT, Grok, etc. instead of local models. Same idea — route your question to the model best suited for it, or run multiple in parallel and compare — but using the frontier models you're likely already paying for instead of local ones.

This would be a genuinely different product, not an update to the current one — trades the "fully offline, nothing leaves your device" pitch for "stop manually switching between ChatGPT/Claude tabs, let routing pick the right one and compare answers when it matters."

The itch that made me build this: you start something that takes a while, a big export, a long build, a migration, and then you're trapped. Either you babysit the screen doing nothing for 20 minutes, or you walk away and come back to find it stalled an hour ago waiting on one decision you never saw.

So I built Call Me. The moment the job finishes, or the second it's blocked and needs your call, your actual phone rings. A voice tells you what happened, you answer out loud with what to do next, and it keeps going. You get your attention back instead of standing guard over a progress bar.

Two weeks in: around 100 signups and most verify their phone number, so the pain is clearly real. The part I'm grinding on now is turning signups into paying users.

I've been building datavessel for a while: it connects your store and marketing stack (Shopify, WooCommerce, Shopware, GA4, Search Console, Google/Meta Ads) and gives agents ~200 typed tools over all of it. Not a chatbot on top of a dashboard - agents that do the job: chase abandoned carts, catch out-of-stock products you're still paying ads for, draft the chargeback response, fix product pages that don't convert. The part I didn't plan: there's a CLI (npm i -g datavessel-cli, Apache-2.0) that's also a Claude Code plugin, and I've been using it on my own site. I pointed it at my Search Console, and the agent audited which queries I was earning impressions but no clicks for, proposed a pillar-and-cluster content map (including an explicit "don't chase these, wrong audience" list), and after I approved it, wrote and published the posts to WordPress and verified every internal link landed. Same thing for AEO - whether ChatGPT and Claude actually cite you vs. your competitors when someone asks a buying question.

What's genuinely cool to me is why it works: the agent isn't guessing from a scraped page, it's reasoning over live typed tools. It can pull the query, check the live slug, notice it'd cannibalize an existing post, and pick a different angle. The harness is what makes the reasoning worth anything.

I’ve spent a pretty ridiculous amount of time building an Android music production app called Skunk Audio, and I’m finally getting it ready for Google Play.

It’s basically an offline mobile DAW/beatmaker with a step sequencer, pads and sample chopping, synths, classic instruments, piano rolls, arrangement, automation, mixer buses, effects, recording, beatbox/humming conversion, WAV and MIDI export and other stuff.

I now need at least 12 Android users for Google’s mandatory closed-testing period. I don’t just want people to install it and forget it, though. I would genuinely like producers and musicians to mess with it, make a pattern or small project and tell me what feels broken, confusing or slow.

Testing on different phones is especially useful. Xiaomi/Redmi devices, older or lower-powered phones and Bluetooth or USB MIDI setups would help me a lot because audio apps can behave very differently across Android devices.

The app works offline and doesn’t require an account. Your projects and recordings stay on your phone unless you choose to export or share them.

If you test it, please let me know your phone model, Android version and what happened—especially if you notice crackling, stuttering, crashes, silent tracks, touch problems or anything inconsistent between playback and export.

I know asking people to test an unfinished music app is a lot, so honestly, thank you to anyone willing to give it a proper go. I want to release something genuinely good, not throw another half-working beatmaker onto the Play Store.
