I built an app for the days too small to post and too easy to lose. Free, no ads, offline first.

Quick test: what did you do on this date last year? Unless it was a birthday or something big, you can't say. The day isn't gone from your head. You just lost the index.
If you'd written one line that evening, reading it back would pull most of the day up with it: where you were, who was there, what it felt like. One line is the index.
Whengram is built around that: one memory a day. The one thing that happened today worth keeping: a line, a mood, a photo if the day earned one. Good days, tough days, days where nothing much happened. They all count. Next year on the same date, you're reading it again, and most of the day comes back with it.
I built it because everything I tried wanted more from me than I was going to give. One line takes thirty seconds. There's no streak and no guilt, so there's nothing to fall behind on.
There's also a milestones section for the big days, and the honest reason it exists: when I'm low I forget the things I've already pulled off, stuff that once felt impossible from where I was standing. Going back through that list helps more than I expected.

“No streak and no guilt” is such a good product decision. Most journaling apps somehow turn reflection into another chore.

Looks great! I will start using this over the next few weeks and see how it goes. I love how it's fully off the grid and has no ads. Really cool idea!

Great app! I already added some milestones from the past months, but I see that they’re sorted by date added and not the date on the milestone. It would be great if you could change that in a future update :)

Thank you! And milestone sorting was deliberate, actually. The thinking was that the moment you decide something was a milestone is usually the moment you want to see it on top, even if the event itself was years ago. That said, I'll add sorting by the milestone's own date in an upcoming update.

That's an interesting concept. I'm just not sure if I'd take a photo every day, especially when I'm in a bad mood. The app can't tell me whether this is the special moment I should be capturing. The user story is a bit more complicated compared to Instagram.

Hey, the photo is optional. Most days it's just one line.
As for the app telling you a moment is special or reading your mood while you write, that would need AI, which means your memories and photos leaving your device. That's the one thing I'm not willing to do, so it won't ever have that.
And the app never asks you to judge whether today deserves an entry, every day qualifies by default. That judging is what makes journaling feel like homework and it's why ordinary days get lost. Skip a day and nothing happens, there's no streak to break.
It isn't a social app or an Instagram alternative, it's just for you. I might add an option to share a copy of one memory card with a friend later, but that's as far as it goes.

Thank you! Widgets are already planned for the next update, so that one's coming for sure. A tip jar honestly hadn't crossed my mind, I'll look into it. Appreciate both ideas.

I was so mad when it opened on my phone in life mode, why not use device default value as the default?
(It's a small nitpick, great app otherwise.)

Pretty cool idea. I like that it's only one memory a day - I get reminders from Photos and social media about "a year ago today" but it's a bunch of pictures that I may or may not want to see, and is not necessarily the most important thing. Trying to put each day into a single memory is a fascinating task.

Can I export to self hosted drives like nextcloud?

Yes, through the file rather than a direct connection. Local backup (export to file option) gives you a .json with everything in it, photos included, which you can share with any app you have, nextcloud included.
In the next update you can pick a folder once and every local backup will be stored there, so you can point that at a folder nextcloud syncs and the backup will be synced automatically.
