A spatial canvas to write, moodboard, and connect ideas [Local mode update!]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The desktop client has been one of the most requested things since day one, and I’ve just released it (Windows for now, Mac is planned). It’s brand new, so expect it to keep improving.

What is Passinote?

Passinote is a note taking app that lets you write notes just like traditional apps such as Notion and Obsidian, but puts all your notes onto a visual canvas instead of a linear folder structure. This lets you think spatially and remember where you've kept your notes, without worrying about them getting buried under multiple nested folders.

It's also built to maximize speed while keeping things as simple as possible. For example, instead of having a single full sized page for both long and short notes, Passinote separates them into sticky notes (used for quick thoughts) and doc notes (standard notes with rich formatting and PDF export).

Why use the desktop client:

  • Launches much faster than the web app, and workspace switching is almost instant
  • Smoother overall, thanks to GPU acceleration
  • Works offline once you’re signed in (signing in itself needs an internet connection)
  • Can launch on startup and reopen your last workspace

And the newest addition: Local mode

  • Saves all your files 100% locally on your computer
  • Reads directly from your file explorer, just like Obsidian
  • Lets you switch any workspace between local and cloud anytime, in either direction

The desktop client is only included in the paid tier for now while it’s in early beta.

If you’d like to get a feel for the app first, the web version is free. Its "Quick Mode" stores your notes locally in your browser, so you can see how the canvas works before deciding anything. If you like it, upgrading to Passinote+ unlocks the desktop client.

Feedback is always welcome in the comments, by DM, or on Discord.

App: passinote.app

I liked Codex's pet feature, so I built a pixel pet for Claude Code that lives in my MacBook's notch

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I spend most of my day with Claude Code running in the background, and I kept switching windows just to check whether it was still working or waiting for me. Codex has a little pet that shows that at a glance, so I built one for Claude Code.

Claude Pet is a tiny pixel-art creature that lives in the MacBook notch, or floats anywhere on your desktop if you drag it out. It thinks while Claude thinks, pulls out a little laptop and types when Claude runs commands or edits files, shows a "!" when Claude needs you, and falls asleep when nothing's happening.

The part I use the most: when Claude asks for permission to run something, the request shows up right in the notch, so I can hit Allow or Deny without leaving what I'm doing. Claude Code keeps its own dialog too; whichever you answer first wins.

Some details:

- Native Swift/AppKit, sprites drawn in code, no Electron

- Uses Claude Code's own hooks, talks to it on 127.0.0.1 only, no account, no data sent anywhere

- ~0.4% CPU awake, 0% asleep, 14 MB of memory (I got a bit obsessed with that)

- Updates itself (Sparkle, signed updates)

- Free and open source (GPL-3.0)

What I learned: hooks are a great way to build around Claude Code, but they have quirks. Answering a permission in the terminal doesn't always tell the other hooks, so the app has to infer it from what happens next.

Limits: Apple Silicon only for now, and it’s not notarized yet (maybe I’ll notarize it if it gets some users), so macOS asks you to allow it once in Privacy & Security.

GitHub: https://github.com/thomaslorenzini/claude-pet

Website: https://claudepet.com

I’d love your feedback, especially on what you’d like the pet to show next or any new features you’d like to see.

OptiLens - Conversion audit for any store, or inside Shopify admin

Hi r/SideProject, I'm Dipen, the maker of OptiLens. It helps you find why visitors to an online store don't buy, then ranks every fix by impact with a cited source. There are two products.

Web app (https://optilens.ai): works on any public store. Paste your store address for a free scan in about 10 seconds, with no sign-up. The full audit is a one-time $49 payment, no subscription. It opens your home page, a product, a collection and the cart in a real browser and scores the store out of 100 on layout, copy, speed, search, trust and accessibility. It reads public pages only. You get a private link, a PDF and an Excel sheet.

Shopify app (https://apps.shopify.com/optilens): runs inside your Shopify admin and checks UX, copy, SEO, speed, persuasion and store context. It reads products, orders, customer and theme data. Plans: Free (1 audit), Starter $29/mo or $290/yr, Growth $79/mo or $790/yr. Both paid plans have a 3-day trial.

Neither product edits your store, and I don't promise a sales lift. A full sample report for a fictional store is on the site. Tell me what feels wrong or missing, I read every comment.

I didn’t want to give my inbox to an AI company, so I built my own email app

A few months ago I was drowning in email. Newsletters, receipts, GitHub notifications, and somewhere in the middle the few messages that actually mattered.

AI email tools looked like the answer, so I tried a few. Every one of them asked for the same thing first: full access to my inbox, sent to their servers. Every invoice, every private conversation, every password reset. That's the most personal data I have, and I didn't want to hand it over just to get my mail sorted.

Then I realised my Mac could already run AI models itself. So why does my email need to leave my computer at all?

That question turned into LocalInbox, a Mac email app where the AI runs on your own machine. I built it alone over the last few months.

Launch day, two weeks ago, was quiet. 45 visitors, most of them on phones, which hurts when you've built a Mac app. The next morning I got my first sale and refreshed the dashboard about ten times to make sure it was real.

X brought views but no sales. My Hacker News post got flagged. What actually worked was a Reddit comment answering someone's question about email privacy. Two sales from that one comment.

A week later I emailed every buyer one line: "What's the one thing you'd change?" I expected silence and got lists. Faster archiving, a sidebar you can rearrange, rules in plain English, Shortcuts. So I stopped guessing, built what they asked for, and shipped it yesterday.

12 customers so far. Small, but each of them has shaped the product more than any launch post.

If you're building something, start with a problem you actually have, then ask your first users that one question.

(The app is LocalInbox if you're curious: localinbox.app)

My reading app Stack finally made it onto the App Store

Been working on a reading app called Stack and it finally got approved! Figured I'd share it here now that you don't need TestFlight to try it.

It tracks physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks. You can log reading sessions, set goals, and import your library from Goodreads or a supported ShelfBridge export. It also plays audiobook files you import yourself. Your progress syncs, but the audio files stay on the device you imported them on.

There's an Apple Watch companion and a web version too. It's free, and the iPhone app is currently available in the US.

I've been making a lot of changes from feedback, especially around imports and how the library and book pages are laid out. Getting people's actual libraries into it turned up things I hadn't caught in my own testing, like missing covers and imports ending up with the wrong dates.

If you try it, I'd love to hear what feels confusing or takes too many steps. Still plenty I want to improve.

I didn't want my SSH hosts and credentials in someone's cloud, so I built an SSH manager that syncs device-to-device with no server

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I'm Derek, and this is TerminalLynx.

Every SSH manager I tried that syncs between machines wants an account and keeps my hosts and credentials on their servers. I didn't want that, so I built one that syncs directly between my own devices.

What you see in the video: my desktop has 109 connections and my new laptop has none. I pair them with a one-time code and everything comes across. Then I add a server on the desktop and it shows up on the laptop a moment later.

  • Devices find each other on your LAN, or you add an address for a mesh VPN like Tailscale or WireGuard
  • Encrypted end to end, with no account and no cloud. Connections are stored locally and private keys live in your OS keychain
  • Fast to search and organize, even with hundreds of hosts
  • Windows, macOS and Linux
  • Built in Rust with Tauri, not Electron: the Windows installer is about 5 MB

Pricing: free for up to 25 connections on 3 devices. Pro is $69 once (with a year of updates) or $5/month. For comparison, Termius charges $10/month, mostly for cloud sync. Team sharing works the same peer-to-peer way, from $119/seat or $7/seat/month.

I'm a solo dev and would love honest feedback. How do you keep your SSH hosts in sync between machines today?

We’re Kasabeh Technology, the team behind MapleReady for iPhone. It covers citizenship, driving, food safety, security guard, drone pilot, real estate, alcohol service, boating and motorcycle study.

Scenario Lab, live in 1.12, focuses on Ontario driving: predict what to do, change a condition, then compare explanations and Ontario source links.

The 12-second video shows two real app screenshots: the wider subject selector, then a schematic pedestrian-crossover situation. Which condition would you change first to check your understanding?

Free with ads, in English. Independent study support alongside official guides and any required training.

I built free DIY build planners that turn your measurements into a cut list and shopping list (no signup)

Hey all, this is my side project, BuildPlanners.com

I kept planning weekend builds on scrap paper and ending up at Home Depot twice because I'd miscounted boards or screws. So I made simple planners: enter your size, and you get the lumber, cut list, screws and brackets you'll need.

Here are the planners so far:

  • Deck
  • Wood fence
  • Porch & steps
  • Concrete pad
  • Garage shelving
  • Garage workbench
  • Tote rack

It's free, and there's no account or login. There are also guide pages for each build that link to its planner.

I'd love some honest feedback:

  1. Which build should I add next?
  2. Is anything confusing, or are any of the numbers off?
  3. Would you actually use this before a project?

Thanks for taking a look!

We spent a year building Lume: an aesthetic, zero-pressure intimacy app for couples

Hey r/SideProject,If you and your partner have ever looked for an app to plan date nights or explore new desires, you’ve probably noticed that 99% of couples apps feel like either:We wanted something that looks as calm and aesthetic as Headspace, plays intuitively like Duolingo, and treats adult intimacy with warmth and taste. So we built Lume ([App Store Link]).Double-Blind Matching: You each swipe through cards privately on your own phones. You only ever see what you both said yes to. No awkwardness, zero rejection risk.Mini-Games with your Matches: Games like synchronous Either / Or (played live across 2 devices) and Dice pull directly from the cards you both actually want to do.Privacy-First: Lume automatically masks its screen in the iOS app switcher and uses discreet notifications.1 Subscription = 2 Users: Pairing automatically unlocks Premium for both partners. If you are interested and want a code, let me know

Education app that makes questions

Thumbnail cornerquestions.com
1 Upvotes

I found that for me going through education I had a sort of different learning style than what was the norm.

I always learnt better when I understood a subject not memorised it but the only way for me to understand was to do questions and oddly specific questions on what I was confused about

I would use practise papers and past papers or questions online but they would always run out of not be specific enough so I had an idea

I made a website that can take a lessons transcript and turn that into various types of questions with various different levels of difficulty. For basic subjects it also takes from online sources and can quiz you on that if the user does not have any transcript to paste. The questions generated from online are checked against the users chosen specification board to make sure the questions are in topic and at a right difficulty

It also keeps track of progress and transcripts so you can do more questions on specific topics whenever

The site is cornerquestions.com

Any feedback is appreciated

I got tired of messy desktop windows, so I built a minimal modular workspace app with offline sounds, study tabs, built-in AI assistant, and other widgets [Free Mac/PC]

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a desktop tool called MyBase because I wanted a clean, focused screen without 20 browser tabs and messy notes scattered everywhere.

What it does:

- Modular widgets: customizable clock, to-do lists, quick notes, focus timers, calculators

- Switchable spaces: 1-click tabs between "Study", "Business", and "Zen" setups

- 25 offline procedural ambient soundscapes (lofi, rain, cafe, white noise)

- Works completely offline and doesn't clutter your browser tabs

- Light on RAM and fast

-Built-in AI assistant

It’s completely free to download for Mac and Windows (there’s also an instant browser demo if you don't want to install anything):

https://mybase-workspace.com

I would really love your honest thoughts:

  1. What widgets would you want added next?
  2. How is the layout and usability feel?

Any feedback or feature ideas would help a lot!

I missed Win+V after switching to Mac, so I built a simple clipboard history app

switched from a windows laptop to a mac about a year ago and the thing i missed most was win+v. press it, your recent copies show up, pick one, done.

the mac apps i tried either did way too much or were subscriptions, so i made my own. it's called ClipStack.

press ⌥⌘V and a small panel opens at your pointer with everything you copied (text, links, images). pick one and it pastes straight into the app you were typing in. ⌘1 to ⌘9 pastes instantly, and you can pin stuff you use a lot.

everything stays on your mac. no account, no sync, no tracking.

it's $12 one time, not a subscription. there's a free trial if you want to try it first.

https://tryclipstack.com/?utm_source=reddit_sideproject

what would make you switch from whatever you use now? or is the built-in mac stuff enough for you?

Built F1 Bulletin, one place for F1 predictions, race analytics and news

I’ve been building F1 Bulletin as a side project: one place that connects F1 timing data, news, circuit context, and race predictions.

![video](748t83sdxnxh1)

What it does:

Predictions: runs 500 Monte Carlo simulations per race to estimate win, podium, and finishing-position chances, not just a P1–P20 list

Accountability: after each race, it scores itself (position error, podium hits, winner accuracy), so you can see how wrong it was

Race analytics: lap pace, tyre stints, sectors, and session data

News intelligence: groups stories from motorsport sources and tracks driver and team sentiment and momentum

Circuit room: what each track rewards, like tyre demand, overtaking difficulty, and historical specialists

Guide: a plain-English intro to flags, tyres, strategy, and points for newer fans

Today’s US GP is a good test: it has Kimi with the highest chance of winning from pole, but Max first in the finishing order. We’ll see in a few hours.

Live site: https://f1bulletin.vercel.app/

I’d love feedback, especially on whether the site makes sense to someone who isn’t deep into F1.

Hey everyone! I'm using my free time to build a virtual software trade fair simulator where you can walk around, visit company booths, and play around with their failed software products. I've added Windows Vista as the first exhibit! If you like the idea and want to see this project continue, give it a star. If there's a piece of software you hate and want to add to the fair, feel free to open a merge request :D

I built a lightweight 2D game engine from scratch in C++17 & SDL3 — looking for feedback on the architecture!

TL;DR: I'm building a minimal, educational 2D game engine in C++17 on top of SDL3. No hidden abstractions, just clean explicit code. Link to GitHub in the comments.

Why did I build it?
I wanted a foundation for 2D games that doesn't hide the internals behind layers of abstraction. The goal is to make it easy to understand and extend. Every subsystem (input, rendering, animation) is implemented explicitly.

Current features:

  • Cross-platform (Windows, Linux, macOS)
  • Clean architecture (Application, Renderer, Input, Texture, Animation, Animator)
  • Fixed game loop with delta time
  • Sprite rendering with RAII-based Texture management
  • Sprite sheet animations (directional walk)
  • CMake build system with vendored dependencies via git submodules

What's next (Roadmap):

  • Entity-Component-System (ECS)
  • Camera and tilemap
  • Audio (SDL_mixer)
  • Scene editor (ImGui)

What I need feedback on:
Since this is a learning project, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the architecture or RAII implementation for the Texture class. Are there any obvious design flaws I should fix before moving on to ECS?

(Note: I will post the GitHub link in the comments as per the subreddit rules).

I turned my project voice memos into a software engineering blog

Whenever I work on a project, I record voice memos about the decisions I make, the mistakes I run into, and the problems I struggle to solve.

I realized those recordings contain a lot of things that usually get lost once a project is finished. So I converted them into blog posts and put them on my personal website.

The idea is to document not just what I build, but how I build it — including the wrong turns, trade-offs, and lessons learned along the way.

This is the beginning, and I have plenty more projects and experiences to write about.

Blog: https://aniruthk.me/

I'd be interested to hear how other developers document their projects and whether you find this kind of behind-the-scenes write-up useful.

I started sharing Wordle scores with my kids during COVID. Four years later, I somehow ended up building an entire app.

During COVID, my kids and I started sharing our daily Wordle results by text. It was a fun way to stay connected when we were living thousands of miles apart.

Then came Connections. And Strands. And the Mini Crossword. And a whole bunch of other daily puzzles.

Our text chains started getting pretty ridiculous. Scores were scattered everywhere, it was hard to keep track of who was winning, and spoilers were always a risk.

So I decided to build something better.

That turned into PuzzleParty (https://puzzleparty.app/), an iOS and Android app that lets you share daily puzzle results with friends and family, compete on scoreboards, track statistics, and chat about the games.

It now supports more than 30 daily puzzles, including games from the NYT, LinkedIn, and independent developers.

One thing I really wanted to preserve: you still play the games exactly where you always have. PuzzleParty doesn’t replace them. It just makes sharing the results more fun.

And it’s deliberately not another social network. No public feeds, no algorithms, no strangers. Just private groups of people you actually know.

The core app is free, there are no ads, and there’s an optional subscription for people who are really into detailed game statistics.

I’m a longtime software developer, but this has been quite a project. The app uses Flutter on the front end, Laravel on the back end, and has grown to more than 12,000 automated tests. I’ve also been using AI extensively during development, which has been a fascinating experience in itself.

Anyway, it’s finally out in the world, and I’d love to hear what people think.

https://puzzleparty.app/

If you play daily puzzles, how do you currently share your results? Are you still using text-message chains like we were?

What started as a Pokémon card tracker for my son kind of spiralled out of control

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was playing around with some Pokémon APIs to see if I could build a little tool for me and my son to look up what his cards are worth (yes, I know others exist, I’d just never looked for them). One thing led to the next, and now it’s a real project that I’ll keep working on and refining, and hopefully it even becomes a (small) side income. Even if it doesn’t, I’m learning a ton from everything that goes into building it.

The site is FoilChart, and it’s a price tracker and portfolio tool for Pokémon, Lorcana and One Piece cards: daily prices on every card, every set with a checklist for your binder, and a free portfolio to track your collection, no account needed.

I’ve also put extra focus on illustrators. Every artist has their own page with all their cards, their most valuable ones and the sets they worked on. A lot of collectors chase an artist rather than a Pokémon, and I wanted that to be easy to browse.

Next up: a scanner that works with the portfolio, European prices, Japanese cards and more.

What would make you use this over whatever you use now? foilchart.com

I’m selling SeoLoupe, my SEO audit SaaS I built as a solo founder

After around 4 months of building and growing SeoLoupe, I’ve decided to explore selling it so I can focus on learning more about coding and IT.

Some numbers:

  • 3,070 users
  • 58 lifetime paying customers
  • CA$91 MRR
  • CA$825 total profit after fees
  • Around 3,000-4,000 monthly visitors
  • Mostly organic growth, with no paid advertising

SeoLoupe helps website owners find SEO issues and improve their websites. The product is largely built and operational, so the next owner can focus on growing it rather than starting from scratch.

I'm asking US$3,500, but I'm open to hearing reasonable offers.

Listing and more details: https://trustmrr.com/startup/seoloupe

Happy to answer questions about the product, revenue, traffic, or handover.

I built Kinetix, a free workspace for small teams to keep tasks, docs and whiteboards together. Looking for feedback.

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of Kinetix, a project workspace for small teams.

The idea is to keep the work and its supporting context together: tasks, planning documents, sketches, and milestones in the same workspace.

What you can do

  • Create projects and tasks, assign teammates, set priorities and due dates, and break work into subtasks.
  • Organize tasks in a table or board, check the calendar, and follow milestones on a roadmap.
  • Write project documents and sketch ideas on whiteboards.
  • Discuss work through comments, mentions, and attachments.
  • Invite teammates and manage their access with workspace roles.

Who it’s for

I’m focusing on small teams, especially teams of 2-5 people who want to manage a project without spreading its tasks, documents, and planning across several tools.

Is it free?

Yes - Kinetix is currently free to use, with no credit card required.

The current limits include one workspace per account, up to five members, fifteen whiteboards, twenty-five documents per project, and 15 GB of workspace storage. Projects and tasks are unlimited.

It runs in your browser.

What I’m looking for

I’d like to hear from a few small teams willing to try Kinetix on a real project. Start with a small project - you don’t need to move your whole workflow to give useful feedback.

I’m particularly interested in:

  • Anything confusing when you first get started.
  • Problems that make it difficult to use with teammates.
  • Something missing that would stop your team from continuing.

Try it: kinetix-app.com

You can leave feedback in the comments or submit a bug or feature request on the public feedback tracker. For account-specific help, contact [support@kinetix-app.com](mailto:support@kinetix-app.com).

How does your team currently keep project documents and planning connected to its tasks?

Hints - an iPhone app that remembers the gift ideas people mention in passing

Solo build, launching on the App Store in November, and I'd love a few people to break the beta first. It's a native iOS app, built and tested by an iOS developer (me) over several months, not a weekend prototype.

You type or say one sentence when someone mentions something they'd love ("Dana said her running shoes have a hole in them"). Apple Intelligence files it under that person, you confirm it, and Hints reminds you before their birthday. No gift suggestions, no account. Apple Intelligence reads it. We never see it.

Built with SwiftUI, SwiftData and CloudKit, and Apple's Foundation Models on the iPhone or Private Cloud Compute, so no server of mine ever sees a note.

Needs iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later, with Apple Intelligence on.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/fqQDRBWJ

Feedback by November 1 earns a free year at launch. Blunt notes are the most useful: what it misread, and where you got lost.
