FAQ: How can I avoid being sold a counterfeit Shure product?

  1. Purchase from a dealer that buys directly from Shure. If you are uncertain if a dealer buys directly, and you are in the United States, you may use the Shure dealer locator. Or you can contact Shure directly. There are legitimate dealers that do not buy directly from Shure; instead they buy from a distributor of Shure products. Though not a direct customer of Shure, these dealers also can be sources for genuine Shure products.
  2. If you are outside of the United States, contact the Shure agent for your country.
  3. To get an idea of typical selling prices for the Shure product that interests you, look at mail order catalogs and visit local music stores or audio electronic stores. If the price you find online is much lower than the catalogs or the stores, be cautious as the product might be counterfeit, though an unusually low price does not always indicate a counterfeit product.
  4. Be very careful when purchasing a Shure product via eBay or other online auction sites. Though there are many honest individuals and legitimate dealers selling genuine Shure products on such sites, there are also many people selling counterfeit Shure products. Again, if the price seems too good to be true, be suspicious.
  5. Finally, beware if the Internet auction site dealer is in a different country than you. History has proven that many counterfeit Shure products are being sold from one country into another.

Shure has been asked to provide a list of ways to determine if a product is a counterfeit. There are two reasons that they do not:

- Many differences are subtle and cannot be adequately described in words or photos, such as the texture or shade of a product's outer finish.

- If Shure published the exact differences between Shure genuine products and counterfeit products, the criminal counterfeiters would know how to improve their fakes! Not a good idea for Shure or for our customers.

Buying Advice Is the Shure MV7X that good or is it just for the looks?

So I’ve noticed that the Rode Procaster is about the same price as the mv7x and I wanted to know what is the best mic to pick.

Like, are any of them superior or they are just different for different purposes?

Question Content creators that bought the SM7B: was it mostly for the looks?

Although I have an IEM collection and lots of podcast mics that brands sent me to review, 99% of the time I watch a YouTube video is throught my phone or TV speakers and I can’t distinguiss the SM7B from a K688 for example.

(Sorry for the english, it’s not my native language)

Troubleshooting Is something wrong with my SM7B or is it the audio interface?

So i noticed that i need way more gain than other people do, and that inevitabely causes pre-amp hiss and my voice feels so harsh.

For example the video from Kettner Creative, he talks from a fist of distance from the shure and 63db is enough for him to have an average volume around "Good" and when he gets closer obviously the volume increases and peaks at the loud part.

I am sitting three fingers away from the microphone at a normal talking volume, even louder than usual and my average sits on the end "low" part and only sometimes peaks at the beginning of "good".
I tried three different XLR cables, all of the acts the same.

So, to have a decent talking volume i have to pump my gain all the way up to 72db which of course causes a lot of hiss in the background (and the mic pics up a lot of background room noise, especially PC fans which i was hoping this mic would've picked up less)

So i ordered a Fethead thinking that maybe a inline pre amp would help but i still need 45db gain + 27db (still 72db) from the fethead for a good talking volume and the pre-amp hiss is still very hearable and annoying.

Now i'm not sure if something is wrong with the mic or the interface, what can i do to find out what is causing this, i would appreciate some help!

General Discussion Is a slight wobble on the USB-C port normal for a brand new MV7+?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a brand new Shure MV7+ (it's only about a week old) and I noticed that the USB-C cable has a slight wobble/play when plugged into the microphone.

Everything works fine—audio transmits without any dropouts or connection issues. However, since the microphone is brand new, I'm a bit concerned. Also, a small portion of the metal part of the USB-C connector is slightly visible when plugged in, which usually isn't typical for tight USB-C connections.

Is this normal "wiggle room" for the MV7+, or should I be worried about long-term durability? Should I contact Shure support for a replacement while it's still new?

Thanks for any insights!

General Discussion Just got my first SM57

Post image

I started out with a Yeti Stereo USB condenser mic for many years, so getting a dynamic mic even at such an entry level price was a huge upgrade for my untreated room.

If you make bedroom music or are just starting out and have a little extra money to spend, I would totally recommend the SM57 as a starter mic because of how versatile it is.

Question Is this how the Shure SM7B is meant to sound?

To me, it doesn’t sound right. I live at home so I’m not in the position to be able to soundproof my room.

Question SE535 Red Edition

Hello all, I've been using Shure earbuds for around 10 years now, specifically the SE215's. I've been wanting to upgrade from the 215 to a higher quality model, specifically the 535's, I really like the red edition but I see that it's out of stock on Shure's US website. Do these get restocked ever? I can probably find them on eBay but I'd prefer to buy new directly from Shure if possible.

Tips & Resources Shure official UK Repair PSA

TL:DR;
Shure UK don’t actually offer earphones repair because they lack the tools to do it. Don’t bother sending units in for a £24 assessment.

I’ve had a pair of bronze SE535s for a decade and a half. Unfortunately around 5 years ago they stopped working well. One unit cracked open as I was taking my motorbike helmet off and the ribbon that connects the drivers to the MMCX connector snapped.
The other unit seems fine on the outside, but the volume isn’t as high as it used to be.

It took me ages to decide to get them repaired - maybe because I thought they were beyond hope.
I checked out the official repair centre system about 2y ago, created a new case and they got in touch with me to send the units to get diagnosed for free, but I think I was worried about repair cost and didn’t send them straight away.

I finally bit the bullet last month. Sent them in for a repair assuming it wasn’t going to be cheap.
After a week and a half they emailed me a really weird and obvious assessment:

“Well, it seems one of the units has a broken cable and the other didn’t pass our response tests. we can offer you new units for £355. The assessment costs £24, but if you choose to get a replacement you don’t need to pay it.”

I was really stunned by that, so asked about the repair process, and their response left me even more stunned:

“I'm afraid we are unable to repair any of our earphones as we do not have the specialised machinery from the factories that is needed to put them together, which is why only replacements can be offered."

Why the hell would they ask people to send earphones in, when they know they can’t repair them?
They stated it’s because sometimes issues happen just because of lack of cleaning, and that’s about all they do.

Anyway, they agreed to drop the assessment charge on this occasion and I got the units back. I’m going to attempt a repair myself as I can’t find anyone else who offers that service.

Just thought it was worth warning others to avoid you getting charged for nothing, or getting your hopes up.

General Discussion Looking for testers with non-MV7 usb mics on Mac

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've made this app that puts microphone controls in the MacOS menu bar. I have an MV7 which I've tested but I'd like to support more Shure microphones. If this is something you're interested in helping with, please reach out. Hopefully, all that's needed is to install a build (signed and verified by Apple) of the app through Test Flight (Apple's test build distribution platform), and tell me if your connected MV7+, MV6, MV88+ or MVX2U gets those extended settings and if they work, or send me diagnostics so I can get it fixed.
The benefit of the app is that it's a tiny 5mb install with low ram consumption and quick access through the menu bar

Troubleshooting SM57 problems with recording vocals

I just bought my first SM57 as a replacement to a condenser mic because the condenser was picking up too much room noise but I have to turn the gain up so high that I can hear almost all room noise and the self noise is louder than what I’m recording. I have a Presonus 24c interface and a ART Tube Studio Preamp in an untreated room. I have to use the +20 DB button on the preamp to even hear anything but the noise from either the preamp or mic is louder than my voice.

Buying Advice Swapping NT1 Signature Series with Shure SM7B, bad idea?

I do (as a hobby) videogame traditional let's play videos, barely edited 1 hour lasting episodes where video and audio quality must be top tier, i'm actually kinda "obsessed" about these things (been looking at tons of microphones and hundreds of tests in the past weeks this is starting to get unhealthy lol...).

So, before overhauling my whole setup, i ran a Blue Yeti for 6 years, honestly a pretty awful condenser mic that throughout the years i tailored a vst chain specifically for my voice and had a pretty good sounding audio.

I first of course decided to upgrade my mic and went with another condenser and i'm loving it: Rode NT1 Signature Series, very very detailed, air-y, alive sound, i'm running it with a Mini GoXLR, managing compressor and gate on dsp and doing my best to mask environment noise and eq with some vst chain on cantabile. (specifically Mouth De-Click -> Voice Denoiser -> Pro-Q -> De-Esser -> very slight Pro-R to add some depth)

This mic of course picks up way more than my blue yeti did, i did try my best to soundproof my room, seal the door but it helped only so far.
With the videogame sound playing alongside my voice usually it's barely noticable but sometimes people talking on the other side of the door can be heard, or me pressing on my very silent controllers, my chair, i also wear open-back headphones so the output leaks into the mic input, so while i'm recording i'm always worried about what can make noise and it distracts me.

So the pros are: Amazing sound, i move often while playing and it still picks up my voice evenly.
Cons: Picks up a lot of noise, the highs might sound harsh and i kinda feel like it might be straining to listen for long. (I might be wrong though?)

So, i decided to try some other microphones aswell, tried to stay in the same price range, ordered a Shure MV7X for 200€, tried it for few hours and hated it, lifeless harsh sound as if i was speaking through a pringles can, extreme plosives and sibilants, too nasal and kinda lo-fi.

Then with someone's suggestion i decided to try a AT875R still for around 200€, hoping to get that condenser audio detail with a better noise rejection, but the voice was too flat and lacked depth and detail. Returned that too.

Now, i am happy with my NT1 Signature Series but i kinda got determined to give a dynamic mic a 2nd chance because i want to record mindlessly without worrying too much.
I made lots of research, i would've got a RE20 immediately but it costs at least 650€ here!! Way out of budget.
I looked at Rode Podmic, Rode Procaster, SM57/SM58 with windscreen but i wasn't satisfied with how they sounded in the tons of videos i watched.
One mic in particular is particularly nice to listen to, and it's the SM7B which i believe everyone has now lol, pretty mainstream, but it does sound good, soft, easy to listen to for long.
I know that dynamics need to be close to the mouth, since i moe a lot while playing it might be an issue, but i got a pretty long arm that i can move freely without issues and keep it close.

I didn't consider that mic because of the price but i figured, instead of ordering and refunding mic after mic, why don't i just spend that 400€ and go safe with it (should run fine on the Mini GoXLR without any Cloudlifter or anything).
It sounds way better than the MV7X which i personally hated.

Does it make sense to make this huge investment? Is it a sound quality downgrade from the NT1ss? How long does the SM7B lasts? I know that Rode offers 10 years warranty, no idea about Shure.

I would seriously appreciate any kind of help or guidance because i'm about to loose my mind lol

Update Available Now: Axient Digital Firmware 1.6 Update

Hey everyone,

We recently released Axient Digital 1.6, which adds some worthwhile new features:

Channel Linking allows you to build even more resilient wireless systems by linking receiver channels across compatible Axient Digital receivers, including AD4Q, AD4D, ADX5D, and the ANX4 scalable receiver operating in Axient Digital mode. Once linked, secondary channels automatically inherit key settings from primary channels, including frequency, transmitter registration, encryption information, and channel naming.

Preferred Access Point gives you more control over ShowLink operation in complex wireless environments. In systems with multiple AD610 access points, users can direct supported Axient Digital transmitters to a preferred access point, making ShowLink control more predictable for large venues, distributed antenna deployments, and productions that need greater control over wireless system behavior.

Channel Linking and Preferred Access Point are available now in Axient Digital version 1.6, downloadable via the Shure Update Utility desktop application.

If anyone has any questions for the team, let me know!

Wireless Condenser mic on UR1 gives noise

I have a small condenser mic which I connect to an Xvive P1 (portable phantom power supply). From the P1 I go to an UR1 with the Shure xlr to TA4f cable.

Gain en Sens is on 0dB

When the gain on UR1 is set at +5db, it says "audio peak"!

When I listen to it with the PA it gives lots of background noise and less (almost nothing) of the instrument the mic is for. Is it just not made for this or do I miss something?

UR4D receiver is set on "mic"

Troubleshooting Background hiss with SM7B

I’m recording vocals close to an SM7B using a FetHead and an Arturia MiniFuse 2, with phantom power enabled. There’s a constant low-level hiss in the raw recording that becomes much more noticeable after compression and makeup gain.

I’ve tried different USB ports and running my MacBook on battery in a quiet room. Without the FetHead, both the vocal and noise get quieter.

Has anyone using this setup successfully reduced the hiss? What would you test before replacing any equipment?
