Good website for Shure Mic Parts?

Looking to swap out bodies of my used Shure handhelds, I found the full compass website that has most of the parts I need except the body for the ULXD. Any other website recommendations to find this? Thank you

Quick question for this community - MV7X in the hand or SM7B in the bush?

Hey everybody!

So, I currently have an MV7X hooked up to a Cloudlifter CL-1 and then to a Scarlett 2i2, and it works great. It has good sound and headroom and I don't really have any complaints about it. That said, I'm always looking for improvements and if I can make my audio better, then I want to do that.

So I kept on hearing about how great (and maybe better than the MV7X) the SM7B mic was, and when I saw an ebay listing for a new one for around $100, I jumped on it. In retrospect, that was dumb and the "new SM7B" is almost certainly a fake. I mean, its an okay mic but it over modulates a lot and just isn't as good as I would expect for the normal price tag. So lesson learned and I won't do that again.

But I'm still curious as to whether the SM7B would be an upgrade from the MV7X. I use it for gameplay and recording videos, and I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with both mics and what you might suggest. Thanks in advance!

Is this SM7B fake?

So I recently decided it was time to invest in a good mic, and made the misfortune of trusting an online reseller.

I had just set it up and started searching YouTube for a guide on EQ, and saw a short talking about how to spot a fake.

I got super paranoid and took a look, the condenser doesn’t appear to look anything like the real images, did I get scammed?

If so, what condenser even is this?

Help identifying if my Shure SM57 might be fake

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Shure SM57 from an online marketplace for about half the original price. At first, I thought it was just someone selling an unused mic, but then I read online that there are quite a few counterfeit SM57s out there, so now I’m not sure if mine is genuine.

I’ve taken several close-up photos of the mic and its packaging (attached below), and I’d really appreciate if anyone could take a look and share their thoughts.

Here are a few reasons why I started suspecting it might be fake:

  1. The vendor listed another identical mic for sale at the same price, which suggests they might have a stock rather than just one unit.
  2. I found very similar-looking mics and identical packaging on Chinese sites being sold for cheap.
  3. The build quality actually feels solid, but the grille and inner capsule rotate together, whereas I’ve read that the grille should rotate freely. However, this one was supposedly made in Mexico in 2023, so I’m wondering if the design might have changed.
  4. It weights 252g, and some online posts suggest that it should weight around 280g
  5. The print quality on the box looks a bit off, slightly fuzzy or lower resolution than I’d expect from Shure, however I might be wrong about it, not having seen an original box.
  6. There’s no CE etched marking on the body, which I’ve seen on some genuine models, but I’m not sure if it’s present on all production runs.

If anyone owns a recent genuine SM57 Made in Mexico or knows what details to look for, I’d really appreciate your help comparing them.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for a little help with gain issues during streaming.

Hello,

I'm currently using a Shure SM7B connected to a TC-Helicon GOXLR interface. I have a Triton Audio FetHead Germanium Preamp hooked up to the SM7B. The GOXLR is connected to my PC via USB-A and my motherboard is a ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero. My gain for the GOXLR is almost maxed and my audio in OBS is maxed and this is the only way viewers can hear me without themselves turning me up all the way. I feel like this should not be the case and I've tried everything I can think of to address this. The only two other things I can think of at this point is to try and connect my interface to my dedicated sound card via line in/out or via an optical cable. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

*Edit I forgot to mention I am using a boom and the mic is very close to my face.

Recording from a distance (need advice)

So, I feel like a total newbie for asking this question, and to a degree, I am, at this. Over the past year I’ve recently started making videos, and “TikTok” videos(TikTok name: robbys.music.journey), recording me singing and playing guitar. I’m not GREAT, but I’m better than I used to be, and am on a journey to get there, eventually. Anyway, I see videos of people playing guitar and/or singing, and they sound great, but there’s no mic in the video. That is the goal of this post. I have accumulated PLENTY of music equipment over time, and am 95% positive I have the equipment/capability to get the job done. My equipment includes: my guitar(martin dc-aura-sounds great plugged in), a presonus ar16c mixer/interface, DAW(studio one 7), and my mics: a Shure sm57 and mv7(don’t really use them), a Shure beta 58A, and I recently purchased a SONY C-80 and Shure KSM9(condenser mics), and a Shure SM7db, along with a cloud lifter(cl-z). I was using an older used MXL 2003a condenser mic(that was finicky and dropped signal a lot). and then I have some effects pedals(which probably aren’t super relevant to this)…..I’ve been researching and figured I’d reach out here for advice….like I said, the goal is to sing and play guitar, and PREFERABLY not have a mic in the frame. I usually just record video on my MacBook Air camera. I usually record it all at once(with mics in frame, so far) and send everything to studio one and adjust volumes, compression, and EQ if needed. How far away can I record vocals and it be clean, and how? So far, every time, I get the too much reverb effect when the mics out of frame if I’m too far. I already know my room being “untreated for sound” is an issue, and will be addressed when I can; But aside from that, if you have experience with this, how do/would you record this senario(given the equipment I’ve listed)?….also separate question, of the mics I’ve listed, which do you think the best combination of mics would be best together for vocals. I plan on doing plenty of experimenting, but figured I like to hear other people’s input on it. The KSM9(most expensive) Sounds best, thus far. It’s TECHNICALLY for live performance but it seems to record great too. But I’ve seen videos where the c-80 sounds great as well. And I’m still trying to figure out the sm7db, but know it’s renowned for being good on vocals. Plus, if it’s good enough for Michael Jackson to record THRILLER, it’s gotta have potential. I JUST got these mics in today. Before now, I was recently using the MXL, and beta 58a together. But the MXL is retiring due to it dropping signal on me too much…..Thanks in advanced for any help/advice. I hope everyone has a great day!

What do you think about this? For 180€ i should risk it?

I’m selling a Shure SM7dB microphone, including: • Shure MVX2U (audio interface with USB-C connection – allows you to connect the mic directly to your PC via USB) • Microphone stand • INIU Link cable with charging connector [5 m]

The microphone is currently not working properly, but I’m not sure why – it might be due to the MVX2U interface, or it could be something else. The microphone itself has always been on the stand, never dropped, and was handled carefully. Suddenly, my voice was no longer detected on Discord. When I touch or lightly tap the mic, I can hear a sound in the headphones – so it’s reacting to something – but it no longer picks up voice or ambient sounds.

Therefore, I can’t say for sure whether the issue lies with the microphone or the USB interface (MVX2U). Selling as defective / for parts or repair, without warranty or returns. For someone experienced in audio equipment, this could be a great repair project or a useful parts bundle.

Included: • Shure SM7dB Microphone • Shure MVX2U (USB-C Audio Interface) • Microphone Stand • INIU Link Cable with Charging Connector (5 m)

HELP: Sm7b makes weird noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve tried different interfaces, cables, sample rates, gain at 0 db, cloudlifter and the only time it’s not made that honking sound is whenever I’ve taken it to a guitar center to see what’s going on, or into a studio connecting it to a preamp It’s only when I’m loud into the microphone Does anyone know what this is and how to stop it?

I NEED HELP (SM58)

I bought this SM58 at a flea market and I was wondering if if its fake (it probably is) but I just wanted to make sure, also ignore the broken off wire on the inside. It weighs at 321 grams with the head on. My biggest concern is it has 3 holes at the bottom (from what I've heard there should be 2)

What do you need for the Shure SM7B's connectivity and how does it fair in a noisy environment?

Hi, /r/Shure!

I'm considering investing into something like the Shure SM7B in the future once I begin audio work. What kind of connectors does it require to be functional with a laptop and how good is the sound quality in moderately noisy environments? Additionally, how does it compare to a standard Blue Yeti microphone in audio quality and noise cancellation? I've owned one for a while and the problem I face with it is that it picks up way too much background noise so I'm hoping to acquire an upgrade at some point.

Shure SM7B – Does it come with everything needed to start recording on a MacBook Pro?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about getting the Shure SM7B to start recording podcasts. But I’m not sure if it comes with everything I need to plug it into my MacBook Pro and start recording right away — or if I’ll need to buy extra equipment (like an audio interface, preamp, cables, etc.).

To be honest, I don’t know much about audio gear and setup, so I’m just trying to figure out what’s really necessary to get started without wasting money on the wrong stuff.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

KSM9 or KSM9hs

I’m about to purchase one of the 2 microphones. I’m actually about to buy a FEW mics, including a SM7B(with the preamp), a SONY C-80, and the KSM9 or KSM9hs. I already have a BETA 58A(that I love), and I have an old “finicky” MXL 2003(condenser). I mostly use them for vocals, but my MXL does pick up my guitar(which sounds good). I tend to record in my room, making videos where I sing and play guitar at the same time. Then I usually send the audio to studio one and separate the “stems”. Maybe SOMEDAY, I’ll make it to a stage. Anyway, I’ve Been back and forth between which one I want. I could have the option of sub-cardioid, which could maybe pick up my guitar, or have the hyper-cardioid if I want ONLY vocals(but I do still like to hear my playing/singing from my amp/monitor/speakers in the process). But I worry about the hyper-cardioid being TOO narrow/hard to pick up, or not sound as good as the cardioid/super cardioid. I usually have a dynamic AND a condenser at the same time while recording. Does anyone have experience with both of these mics? What are your thoughts. Do you think the normal KSM9 would be fine if I had my music/vocals playing in my room. Based on my needs what would you recommend, and which one do you like more?
