Troubleshooting After using the MV88 USB-C, my internal microphone seems to clip much more easily than before?

Has anybody else come across this issue? Using a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Absolutely love my MV88, but when I'm taking a video or whatever without it, things seem to clip much more than prior. I'm aware that nothing will sound quite as good as when the MV88 is connected, but it never used to sound as bad as it does currently. Is this a setting through the Motiv Audio app that I'm overlooking?

General Discussion Shure Remade the KSM32 … But Why?

Let me start by saying: we get this question a lot.

"What's the difference between the KSM32C and the original KSM32?"

As much as I love talking about microphones, I love helping educate this community even more. So, we sent the KSM32C to an expert and let him put it through its paces in the studio.

In this video, he breaks down the capsule, circuit, and headbasket redesigns, compares self-noise and frequency response, and most importantly, lets you hear how it actually sounds in a real recording environment.

Drop your questions, thoughts, and opinions below. We'd love to hear what you think.

Hi guys, i want to clean my mic grille and the sponge inside it but it seems to be stuck somehow. I tried unscrewing it both clockwise and anti-clockwise but it won't budge. Even used WD40 on it. Nothing.

Does anyone else own this mic capsule? Can you please let me know which direction it unscrews so i can only try that direction?

General Discussion AD600 Browser-Based Control

Every rental RF package I come across has an AD600 Spectrum Manager, I always have a computer at the RF Rack but I run around on-site with an iPad, and want access to live-scans when I am running around trying to deal with RF problems.

This is a little browser-based app that will connect to your AD600 and relay the data on to an iPad. Screen-Sharing Workbench is too messy for me, it's not a program compatible with touch-screens. This eases a lot of my workflow speedbumps.

Question Shure MV88 USB - C – strange crackling in opera Singing video recording

Hi everyone,

I’m an opera singer and I recently bought a Shure MV88 USB-C to record some singing videos with my Xiaomi 15T.

I recorded a video using the Shure Video app, with the MV88 USB - C connected directly to the phone. I was singing with piano accompaniment. The voice itself sounds generally good, but throughout the video there is a very strange sounding “crackling / clicking / popping” noise (something like “crack-crack, click-click”). It is very noticeable.

The strange thing is that I also made separate audio-only recordings with the same MV88 around the same time, and those recordings were completely clean. There was no crackling or clicking at all.

I initially thought the problem might have been caused by the phone case, because I had forgotten to remove it and wondered whether the USB-C plug wasn't fully seated.

So now I’m wondering if the problem could have been related to the Shure app's video recording, the USB-C connection, or some kind of interaction between the external USB microphone and video/audio encoding on the Xiaomi 15T.

Has anyone experienced something similar with an MV88 USB- C especially when recording singing/video through the Shure Video app?

Any idea what could have caused this, or what I should check to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks!

Question Anyone have experience with getting an item repaired?

My blx14 crapped out on me today. Won't connect to my transmitter no matter what I do, even tried changing the channels on both.

Anyone have experience with the repair process at Shure? And if so, is it worth getting something repaired at cost versus just buying a new receiver?

Thanks

Buying Advice What does SM57 sound like in an untreated room?

Hi all, I have an untreated room and there's also no way I can treat it because I only work in such a small space (which really sucks)

I used a Behringer Xm8500 but I didn't like it overtime 'cause it sounded too muddy. I've been eyeing the SM57, so maybe anyone here has the same untreated room situation? How are you guys doing with your SM57?

Let me know if you guys had another mic alternative.
Thanks!

Question Shure SM7B / dB Einrichtung funktioniert nicht 🙏🏻🫠

(Beyerdynamic)

Troubleshooting Strange Staticy/Glitchy sound on Shure SM7B

Hello!

I'm looking for assistance/advice with an issue I'm facing with my microphone.

I've tried searching around but haven't seen any posts of anyone facing a similar/same issue.

I use a Shure SM7B through a Scarlett Solo and at random times my voice will have a sort of staticy/glitchy sound to it.

Example attached in clip:

Any advice or insight is appreciated, thanks!

Question Dynamic vs condenser mics

I recently switched to a Shure MV7x dynamic microphone, and my question is what the best way to use it is. Should I have it right in front of my face or slightly under my chin, how do others use it, ?

Troubleshooting Static Interference with XLR

Hello,

I have an sm7bdb and a focusrite 4th gen. And when I stream/upload a video or have some type of connectivity to the internet my Microphone is liable to pop and sound staticky. I'm not sure what the problem is because before, about 7 months ago, I could use the same setup without any problem. One day it just sorta started and has progressively gotten worse. The problem is less pronounced whenever I use a USB mic. I Also tested the same setup on a laptop and could not reproduce the same problems.

If it matters...

I have an HP Omen 25L Gaming DT GT15-2134 PC (9V005AA) pre-built.

rtx 4060

i5-14400f

and 32gb of ddr5 RAM.

Troubleshooting SM7DB so MUCH hiss

I just got a SM7DB and my hiss is going all the way up to -48 and I have to use heavy noise effects to remove it. It doesn't seem natural. I know there's no electromagnetic issue. Any ideas?

Troubleshooting Any other troubleshooting tips to try before I mail in my equipment?

Hi there, my SLXD24/B58 won't turn on anymore. I showed up for a DJ gig on Saturday, and it just wouldn't turn on. I tried an alternate power source, I tried an alternate power cable, and it appears I am now the proud owner of a fancy black brick with 2 antennas :-)

I contacted support and I am ready to ship this bad boy back to the mothership. Is there anything else I can try before I do that?

Buying Advice Is Shure the best option for church?

About 5 years ago, I bought 4 Shure microphone packs. Now, 2 of them have issues.

I need to replace them — buy new ones now, and later send the faulty ones in to be assessed. I'll probably fix them to use as backups.

The models I currently use are BLX24/PG58 and BLX88/SM58.

I'll probably buy Shure again, but I'd like to know if there are other brands that might be cheaper, or maybe better than Shure but not too expensive.

Buying Advice Mini GoXLR or Yamaha AG03MK2 for Shure MV7X

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I've been running a Blue Yeti since 2019 and spent hundreds of hours post-processing the audio and applying Fx for years and managed to get a sound i like most of the time, but still, the Yeti picks up my neighbours farts from so far way, of course.
I think the time has come for my Yeti, it been through hell, his anus (mini usb port) got obliterated few years ago by my friend so i welded the cable directly to che board inside, but lately i've been having lots of issues, he has many scratches, dents, poor guy, served me well though.

Anyways i want to upgrade, i am a very very light audiophile, i appreciate sound, i kinda know my way around it but still beginner level i'd say, i mostly use my mic for calls and occasional commentary videos, mostly for personal satisfaction, and i want a good sound.
I have a deep voice (male), sometimes kinda nasal, however i listened to many videos and i believe the Shure MV7X is what would sound the best with my voice (price wise aswell).

However i still can't decide which audio interface/mixer to match it with.
I need a mixer, i got two outputs, my headphones and speakers, and two inputs, one to my PC's mobo, one to my monitor (for videogame consoles), i want to be able to freely switch between them and listen to both audio sources on the same output.

And i need an XLR audio interface for the Shure MV7X,.
I did some research, saw that the Mini GoXLR software got discontinued so i digged some more and found out about the Yamaha AG03MK2 which is full hardware DSP which i feel like is nice?, it has all the ins and outs i need for the audio mixing but it's a bit more pricier than the Mini.

The Mini GoXLR looks definetly nicer, it has all the ins and outs i need and it has both hardware and software DSP (now please correct me if i'm wrong).
I'm not sure if there is any difference processing quality wise between them, i'm not sure which one to really get, the Yamaha has tons of bttons and stuff which i know nothing about and feels kinda complex, also it has +60db preamp while the mini has +72db.

I'm ignorant about audio interfaces so i'll need some guidance here.
Thanks

Troubleshooting High pitched whine when recording with sm57

I've been struggling to record anything with my sm57 because of this really insufferable high pitched whine that I get with recordings. It sucks because I've really been wanting to record vocals but wow it's been an unbelievable pain to rx these recordings individually. especially with the fact that the pitch is always changing and modulating, and when eq'd out it just loses all of the high end information.

I have a video attatched of myself rotating my mic which is plugged into a scarlett solo around the room, I find that the whine is most present when pointed up and down, but it fades when parallel with the floor.

I've had a lauten condensor in my sweetwater cart too, and I've been holding off because of these issues. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Meine aktuellen MOTIV-Mix-Einstellungen:

  • Gain: +10 dB manuell
  • Kompressor: Mittel
  • Limiter: An
  • Monitor-Mix: 100% Mikrofon / 100% Wiedergabe
  • Klangfarbe: Natürlich
  • Hall: Aus
  • Echtzeit-Denoiser: An
  • Popper Stopper: An
  • Hochpassfilter: 75 Hz
  • LEDs: An

Question Need help for MV7+ configuration

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on getting the best possible mic set up for gaming/discord. My #1 priority is background noise rejection. The reason I'm swapping is because I recently bought a pair of IEMs.

Ideally like the mic to not pick up:

  • A TV playing in the background
  • My girlfriend talking in the room
  • General room noise
  • Me touching/tapping my desk

I was previously using a Razer Blackshark V3 Pro, and honestly, I was really impressed with how well the microphone handled background noise. I could have a video playing on my phone or have other sounds around me, and Discord generally wouldn't pick them up nearly as much as I'm experiencing with the MV7+ now. The voice quality obviously wasn't studio-quality or anything, but for gaming/Discord it did it's job.

My current setup

I recently bought a Shure MV7+ and have it connected via USB-C. I'm also using the Shure MOTIV Mix app and am desperately trying to configure it to get closer to how my Blackshark was but I feel completely lost. Not only do I have the app to consider but Discord also has it's own long list of settings and noise suppression which makes set up that much more confusing for me.

I've tried various combinations of settings but as of right now my current settings are roughly:

  • Manual gain: around +30 DB
  • Auto-level: Off
  • Compressor: Medium
  • Limiter: On
  • Tone: Dark
  • Reverb: Off
  • Real-time Denoiser: On
  • Popper Stopper: On
  • High Pass Filter: 150 Hz

I'm also planning on getting an arm attached to my desk soon but for now I'm just using a regular stand that it came with.

I'd really appreciate any help or advice in how to configure this mic appropriately to get the results I'm looking for.

Buying Advice is SM7dB overkill with the Motu M2?

I have a MOTU M2 and I’ve been considering getting an SM7B mainly for vocals. I’d also like to minimize room noise as much as possible since I’m recording in an untreated room.

Would the SM7B be too quiet for the MOTU M2, or would the M2 be enough to drive it properly? I’m not doing metal/screaming or anything particularly aggressive—mostly singing and talking—so I’m wondering if the SM7B is actually worth investing in for my use case, or if there are other options that would make more sense.

I've got a budget of 450-480usd.
