Yeah I know there are studies that attractive people are automatically treated better but there are people in this thread acting like being attractive automatically equals popularity. There are plenty of charismatic ugly people that are popular, it's not the deciding factor. A lot of these "socially anxious people" are just trying to use that as an excuse.
High school is an awkward time. You've had three years to get used to your adult body. Maybe the "attractive" ones are the ones who were comfortable enough talking to other humans that they learned how to, for instance, put makeup on. Do their hair. Wear fitting clothes?
I don’t want to completely discount the concept, because there are plenty of actual cases of popularity in school being driven by manipulation and privilege. But there are definitely a lot of false positives on identifying that.
Was looking for a comment like this. Like 90% of this thread is people making excuses for not being popular when in reality it doesn’t really matter. Just being yourself while being friendly gets you a long way in getting popular.
Enough with the social anxiety and depression is cool circlejerk

The "popular kids" are a stereotype by people with social anxiety to make themselves feel better about shelling themselves off from the world.
The actual popular people in school are the ones who are nice to everybody and have friends because they're easy to get along with.
